If you go ahead with making a bait pond, then tilapia might be a good species for it. They can survive and spawn in much shallower waters than other fish and grow fairly fast with pure vegetation diets so no need for more fish pellets. They also wont harm the main pond if they survive in there, and any that get too big for the bass will be good eating.

    • @jeremykoehn4004

I think some hardy water lilies or American Lotus and some marginal/shoreline plants like arrowhead, and Iris would make it look more natural and probably help with water quality too.
Maybe these are a straight No for a bass pond..? But plants would seem to be a plus for the fish and birds that you have there. Of course they would require some maintenance, but if you limit what's planted it would be more straightforward. ...?

I've got a 5ac lake and 1/2ac bait pond. We grow bluegill, redear, and minnows in the bait pond. It's great for us since I have access to minnows for crappie fishing the lake any time I want. I would probably stick with bluegill for your bait pond. It's probably not as glamorous as prawns which is what I think you're going after, but bluegills are the money fish. Also you could take about 20 from your lake to stock the pond and save money there.

We live on an extremely large pond, there are only ten houses with access to it and ours has the best access. There is this magnificent bald eagle that comes around and I have to put my chickens away in the tractor. But we also have two Pekin ducks but they are so large I don't think the eagle will go for them. We can see turtles, beavers, egrets, herons, it's amazing the wildlife. My husband and I love your videos! God bless

The bass growth rate is unreal. As a fisherman I would like to see some big crappies too.

Freshwater gastropods and bivalves would be a great addition.

where I live , you can find mussels in the mud along the edges of river and lakes. the are filter feeders , if you go out and collect some and put them in your pond they will clear the water for you .
