There are many talented people out there who can show the world how great and hard-working they are. We can get a cool vibe or emotion from that. It makes us more like a receiver.
But BTS is different, at least from my perspective. BTS's music represents their history and their identity as an artist, you can listen to any one of their songs and know which life stage/situation they were facing, and you'll resonate with them and get the courage to face your own. That is what true artists do. But furthermore, you want to feedback to them. It is transformed to be like a gives-and-takes relationship. As an ARMY, we are not just a receiver, we are also a giver.
That purple empathy connection that BTS - ARMY are bounding is really special.

My memory of Gangnam Style is that when you watch the music video, you can’t help but share it with friends and social media because it’s quirky, funny, and crazy lol but it was also catchy and infectious enough to listen to again, so it went super duper viral super fast. I think the view count are in the billions now. Anyway, I heard that he was an artist that expressed bold/controversial things in his music back in the day before he became famous worldwide. I’m sure he didn’t go much further than Gangnam Style in America due to, even though he had other songs/music to promote, racism/xenophobia. But he was glad BTS was able to reach the dream about getting to #1 on the Hot 100 and proud. It’s super hard to get there, but after years, BTS finally achieved it in 2020 starting with Dynamite. There’s Bangtan B0mb when BTS had a phone call with Bang PD when BTS achieved #1 for the second week, and Bang PD was crying because it’s crazy that they were able to achieve it since radio would barely give them airplay which counts towards the Hot 100. Anyway, BTS paved the way is not a stretch at all.

I loved Gangnam Style much like most people did, but I had no idea that it was a k-pop song or that PSY was a k-pop artist. I didn't even know he was Korean. It was just a fun song that was on the radio and on RUclips that I enjoyed like any pop song and I moved on with life. And that was the experience of a majority of people who listened to it. We didn't know it was k-pop so we had no avenue to go seek out other k-pop songs and learn about new groups. PSY was treated as just another artist and some even consider him a one hit wonder because they have no idea that he had songs before Gangnam Style or any after. It's only after BTS did I find out about k-pop and then learn that PSY was another k-pop act who had been around for several years and had several hit songs.
The thing about k-pop acts is that the trainee system make it difficult for idols to make music. When you place people in a bubble where they need to be perfect and well-behaved at all times there's no room for creativity to thrive. When you don't get the opportunity to simply live and make mistakes and grow from them, there's no material to write about something meaningful. When you are banned from dating or dating publicly, it's hard to write about relationships in a way that people can connect to. When all of your friendships are with co-workers or people stuck in a similar bubble, it's hard to write about friendships. When you are casted at a young age and spend the rest of your time growing up in such a system, it's hard to develop in a way that's normal for most adolescents. When you don't get many opportunities to write music, your first few attempts are going to suck and your label that wants perfection may simply discard your work and never let you try again in a meaningful way. When you spend each day stuck in studios, hotels, airports/planes/cars, photoshoots, work events, etc, you don't get room to live a real life that you can talk about in your music. It's why most labels just let someone in-house write some generic pop tracks with creative beats and people gravitate to the cool beats and ignore the mehh lyrics.

to be honest, i didn't know what kpop was until bts. i didn't even know what psy was when gangnam style came out, and a lot of people thought he was chinese too. they didn't know his name or where he's from, they just liked the song but some of course made fun of him which was really messed up. i know a lot of people got into bts and then found out about other groups after because bts is well known.
in my opinion, i feel like kpop companies and other groups who haven't admitted that bts paved the way doesn't want to believe it because they wish they were the ones who opened the doors so they don't give bts their credit that they deserve. bts is so humble and is always kind to their seniors but they were always looked down on, and even till this day they always appreciate the ones who have come before them even if they don't want to be associated with bts. they always are supporting other artists whether if it's posting their music on their instagram stories or jamming out their performances during award shows.
bts have gone through so much, their company almsot going bankrupt, people telling them they wouldn't make it in this industry but they proved everyone wrong and is now the biggest group in the world and their company is the biggest, which is why a lot of these groups and companies are jealous because they see this group that went from nobodies to legends and did it on their own with the support of their armys.

Previous generations opened the door then closed it(none after that managed to enter western market). Psy open the door but with comical image and people keep misunderstanding korean pop music.
While ARMY along with BTS open the door(western) walk side by side and never closed it to let another kpop group to come with them too. Its easy to get people attention but hard to get media attention. To the surprise BTS well known by western media after they broke Justin Bieber 6 consecutive BBMA Top Social Artist award. Then people got curious like, “who?” “kpop group?” “korean boy group?””they broke jb record?” Start from that they slowly recognise how good BTS record either in album # chart or song # chart. People aware BTS didn’t enter to play around in western market. That’s how western media keep digging who is BTS until they become the center of attention until now.
25:28 tv shows kind of a culture that kpop group need to go for promotion(self/group) or to make people know them. When BTS still nobodies not many tv show(variety or reality show) call to their show. Thats why BTS took their own initiative to do their own show (bts run, bts gayo, bon voyage, in the soop etc) but karma happen. Nowadays many tv show want BTS come to their show but got rejected many times. THATS KARMA😏 and they deserve it. In the journey BTS finally know they are artist and doing music. People can also know them through music. They don’t really need tv show to make themselves known by people.

There is have other kpop groups that also involved for making their own music like BTS (or in korea is called self-producing group) from 2 gen, 3rd gen and 4th gen, but u still count with finger (not a lot). From 1st gen i only know seo taiji who making their own music, but after music industry commercialization of kpop n most of big label not allowed or really limited their group participated for making their own music, coz they only need a perfect performance, not an artist.
But one thing make BTS difference with other self producing group, is their lyrics. BTS lyrics is feel have scene of humanity at there that will touched people's heart n we can learn something about their lyrics, either about self contemplation, philosophy, social political phenomenon/problem, korean culture, psychology, literature art and so many things beside a poetry lyric style that have deeper meaning n how they use the wordplay or word art style to delivery their idea.
Bur for music sounds, it depend on the listeners coz people have different cup of tea. But personally, what make BTS different with other self producer group for me, is their lyrics. U can compare it with other self producing group lyrics if u want to know the comparison :)

The one thing no other existing k-pop can be another BTS is that relationship/bond one BTS had and still has with their fans/supporters was born out of a shared sense of hardship, discrimination, enjoying vicariously via their vlogs, MVs, behind-the-scenes sketches, travel etc which they documented on youtube, weverse etc right from the start. This path they took via youtube was also born out of a lack of opportunities to debut on national variety shows etc (reasons we all know). No existing k-pops through have had the same odyssey or can they re-create such experiences. AS for future generations of k-pop groups, they may if the stars are aligned to bring together 7 different individual personalities and create some semblance of a shared journey with their fans, through thick and thin, in sickeness and in health. That's not enough either, you need to have the creative producers like Pdogg, SOCKIM (the one who collaborated with RM on Wild Flower) and a CEO that trust his charges enough to give them free rein on their musical creations, acting mostly as their adviser. Don'r forget the bonds between PD Bang and the 7 boys were born out of a shared sense almost of crisis, almost on the brink of bankruptcy. So that's why PD Bang is more of a friend and father figure to the boys (who could address him by his name than honorifics) than a high and mighty distant CEO of a company. Try re-creating this and even if future groups have similar configurations, like Suga say "there will never be another BTS" because this is unique only to BTS, other groups if they do become as big as BTS, will just simply be of their own unique experiences, not identical and never will be identical to BTS's. That's why Suga once mentioned, "while it's an honour to be compared to Beatles and be called the Beatles of the 21st century, he's very much be known as BTS of the 21st century.

Funny thing tho, I also don't like BTS because should I say I don't like KPOP at all, but I'm not saying I hate K-Pop I'm just saying I'm not fond of it
For me, it's too superficial I guess?
I mean, just like explained in the vid
They are too obsess with looks and other superficial aspects that they disregarded what is a "song" or a "music" is
Anyways, it was my mistake for putting BTS in a stereotype or a box that doesn't fit them
Cause after watching Dynamite, Butter, PTD, Bow with Luv.
I seriously thought they are like any other Kpop groups, that just have astounding visuals, catchy music, and nothing else.
    No deep lyrics or whatsoever.
So I completely contributed all of BTS achievements and fame to their company and production teams.
But of course I didn't disregard their astounding dancing skills and singing ability, cause although I have a little prejudice against Kpop industry as a whole, I'm not that blind to not see that these idols has crazy perseverance, determination and hardworks just to hone their dancing and singing ability.
I won't just simply disregard their skills as inborn talents cause that would just be an insult to their efforts and hardworks behind the scenes.
Anyways, after finding out Black Swan by BTS, I was a lil bit astounded cause this type of music isn't the same as the Kpop music I used to hear, but what astound me the most is the deep lyrics.
So I started to wonder if BTS, or other Kpop groups create music that has deep lyrics like this that has such nice artistry.
But I soon find out that it seems that, that isn't the case at all. It's like BTS is quite the exception.
So I watched BTS very first song, No More Dream, to be honest it wasn't visually appealing but I really like the meaning behind the song.
So if I were a young teen at that time and in their country, I would be a huge fan of BTS right from the bat 🤣
Anyways, as I look for more BTS songs, I discovered that they actually have lots of controversial songs that have meaningful lyrics, unfortunately they aren't as popular as their popular songs. After diving in their b side tracks songs, I became a fan but after discovering their solo works, I'm now stuck in this rabbit hole.

    • @chbenzy9359

What really draws people to BTS is their SONGS and it's deep meaning and not just looks. Some members were victims of bullying because they didn't meet the "beauty standard" of Kpop in their earlier years, well now it's different. If you will see their first song (debut song) Its talking about the youth. They have so many songs about the Youth, mental health, self love, about social injustices ect, and because of the messages of their songs, they become Unicef Youth Ambassador, and talk infront of the UN General Assembly 3x. They put their time and effort in their lyrics. Because that is what important to them. I'm just telling you this as their fan cause this is what i experience and its draws me to BTS. I became an ARMY because of the messages in their songs. And if you have time you can listen to their Love Yourself Trilogy and Map of the Soul album 😊

They did though. U missed an entire point of the video. BB didnt make it easier for other groups to chart well ALL around the world, kpop groups got unique opportunities to promote in West AFTER BTS success there

@@museofwind9004 The man is just a big fan of BB!! and sometimes its hard to see others do good things ! yeah the fact that he missed the point as he mentioned is the exact reason I didn't say anything in return ! cause the simple answer is I didn't know Kpop when BB were around ! but when BTS came along they were everywhere, even in my home my little cousin listening to them ! they were in my walls without me knowing !

you don't listen to a kpop so you can think bts the only group who do all the work and has thoughtful lyrics. funny enough they are not the only ones. but right now people easily acknowledge them and army make sure to lead new listeners that way "bts are bigger than kpop" so they wont even try to search anyone else. it's true. and at the same time it's not in the way new listener think.
no. when bts debuted there were groups from big companies who did everything from songwriting to choreography and mv concept and groups from smaller companies who did the same. but it never worked out for them in a way it did for bts. (for many reasons)
the creator of this video said billboard created "kpop charts" as if it is anything good. they know it is misleading and they still said it.
idols don't want to be bts. may be their companies want the same success but idols don't want to be bts. they want be recognized for their music. some of them for the music they wrote themselves. right now it's even more difficult for potential listener to go as far to even look at them for ones because many from the very beginning think that everything below bts is "shallow lyrics and pop sound". can't really blame. army strongly keeping their guards.
that's why kpop community trying so hard to exclude army from the game.

Well u see all that in ur own way but that's doesn't mean you are right it's just easier to have such opinion since u are not bts fan or army . But truth is that every single army tried and looked up on every single kpop idol group existed but stick to be solo bts stan just cuz non of their music attracted us to be fans , there are some multi stans inside armys too , so what you are saying it's already nonsense . Me myself when I discovered bts it was from a small snippet in K drama with top 10 most famous kpop groups I only heard Fake love and it was enough to draw my attension to seek who they are but when I got in to the lyrics it was enough to look at their discography. After for months I was trying to find out about other groups and belive me I tried them all every singe generation of kpop and tbh from each group only 1 or non song I liked but not that much to listen to them daily or even whant to dive deeper in to them BUT CUZ OF BTS I WANTED TO CHECK MORE GROUPS cuz bts music was top tier so I thought other kpop idols would be likely as good as BTS are BUT nope ! Non of them matched to bts level and trust me I am not the only one who felt so .
Bts didn't become huge and gained such a huge fanbase just from nothing , they gain ppl with their music , armys are musical fans ! Armys are lyrical fans ! Kpop music 80% meaningless, mediocre, and sound the same no matter what group is . Non of kpop groups is on bts level in any option , they resonate with ppl , they sing about things which everyone can relate and their connection with armys is way bigger than any other kpop idol group with their fans .
We will guard and protect anything about bts cuz they deserve everything they have !
