- Not expected to live from birth, Aidan is a 10 year old boy with cerebral palsy. This film shows his fascinating progression to roll, crawl and walk for the first time in his life. Filmed over two years, A MIRACLE CHILD is testament to the power of perseverance, faith and the power of the human body to heal itself.
Aidan's story is part of the ground-breaking work that is being done at the Spiral Movement Center. Through Adapted Spiral Praxis, co-founders Stephanie Gottlob and Yuji Oka have helped hundreds of children with special needs and disabilities learn how to recover their motor potential. I’m borne with CP. and I’ve accomplished many many great things in my life which I’m very proud of.
I AM 11 and I was born with cerebral palsy as well I only learned how to walk when I was 3 and I luckily grew out of it I kept on trying to walk and roll over and crawl and I just kept on trying until I walked and crawled an tolled over I know that I am very very very lucky that I grew out of it so I am basically just like him but my arms and legs are always sore and hurting and they have been since I was 4 but I am still trying until I succeed in what I want to and I will NEVER GIVE UP

Congratulations Aidan and your Mother. My son was special needs and at six months old I was told that he would never walk or talk. By age 10 he started to do a few things his two older sisters and I work with him all the time, now going on 36 years old he walks and talks. He plays drums and bass guitar and I find myself asking him for help on my computer and have to hide all tools from him as he wants to take everything apart to see how it works. From the time he was six months old up until our last visit from our Doctor that comes to our home to check on him still want me to put him in a home but now since I have had a stroke and suffer from seizures he is now the one that helps me get up off the floor when I fall.
this mother is a hero , and this an example to mothers with special needs kids .

As a childcare worker I have cared for a lot of children with disabilities. And this mum is so spot on ten steps can make a huge difference to someone's quality of life. The ability to direct your own body makes such a huge difference. Kudos to Aiden's incredible mum. She and he are truly amazing.
I have Cerebral Palsy and with loving adoptive parents I graduated from college found a loving wife and I now have a daughter who is a straight A honor student I am so glad I wasn't aborted don't tell me there is no God or miracles I am one and so is this precious child!

My brother learned to walk after our church did a huge prayer group for him he was never supposed to walk or make it to even 1 year. He is now 22.

They are calling this a miracle, but really it is more than that! This video shows that it is not magic or something that instantly happened that this young boy is overcoming some of his disabilities, but with hard work, persistence, and undying love of this family, and the wonderful dedicated people who have taught them that they can achieve some basic independence for this child. It makes my heart sing to see how it is possible for a brain damaged child to be able to make achievements that some people thought could never happen. This video will bring so many families hope that they can make this happen for their child. Go team Aidan, go!!

By the end of it - well it's impossible to grimly hold on to feeling that when there's such beauty, kindness, guts and glory like this going on in the world. I have a brother similar to this he's 22. He has been threw so much and still manages to laugh and enjoy himself. He gives me strength I didn't even know I had.
My sister is a special education teacher and has been for 45 years. She told me she knew at 8 years old she wanted to work with handicapped children. She has so much love to give and healthy people dont want her love and help. She said she needs the kids as much as they need her.
as a parent with a severely disabled child it's hard and heart breaking at time's but the rewards are incredible, I know of two carers who deserve that award, shame it's not recognised in England, home carers are treated as if they don't count, despite all the hard work they do every day without a word of complaint.

My son is a miracle as well. He is 38 yrs old and has cerebral palsy. He was more profound as an infant and although he had therapy almost immediately, they did not have the knowledge this incredible film displays . He became severely ill about 18 yrs ago and was on life support for over 4 months,. After 21 chest tubes and only weighing 32 lbs on his 18 birthday he survived. He has a trach and is tube fed but is a very happy tiny man. I watch this film and wonder what it would have been for him if this therapy was known. This plus the use of computer help in schooling seems sooo wonderful for CP and other conditions. TY so much for this film. He has always been with me at home and will remain so as his siblings will take over when I cannot care for him.

My name is Rhoda.
In 2001 I was admitted to a nursing home to die, as a young woman who at age 24 became "Totally and Completely Disabled by Legal and Medical Standpoints." With each diagnosis the max life expectancy given me was 4 years. It was less than that when I entered the facility. There, I was Completely dependent on others for feeding, bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, Etc., for Over 10 years.
In 2013, I got OUT. In 2017 I began to rely less on wheelchair. I'm still in the "beginning stages" of full healing. Still legally blind, still have impalpable muscle in much if not most of my body. Yet, today, I am living alone, needing help w food prep, & reg bathing, grooming, dressing. Yet, I've bn learning guitar, writing again... Please, Keep Going and Never Give Up. Love Who You Are Just As Well as Who Each Other Is... Beautiful, and Literally Limitless!

The key to the person/child's strength & perseverance is the hands-on (touch therapy) approach combined with a positive & fun attitude. The therapists, with unconditional love & acceptance of the person/child as a human being with a unique personality & purpose encourages & inspires the mind & body to reach & "think outside the box".

This was astounding to watch, it was amazing to see the flexibility return to his limbs and for him to be able to walk unaided in water at the end. Well done to the people who developed this type of somatic healing and to his mothers perseverance.

Did I tell you when I first watched this documentary years ago I was moved, of course, by every frame. Your works and methods are extraordinary. An hour after watching it I found myself beginning the familiar movements of my classical ballet class, something I've done 46 of my 57 years, but that morning I was completely overcome by the sheer miracle of being able to move.
The gestures I'd come to take for granted being able to perform, the focus I'd held on perfecting the lines of my arms and legs became flooded with tears at the awareness of how incredibly precious the mind/body motor ability is. Thank you for your profound work with children and adults, assisting them with enormous patience, to unwind their capabilities and to grow as nature will have it.
Thank you Shelley for sharing your beautiful words. We started out as dancers as well and it's really the love of movement that's given us direction with the kids and adults. I'm happy that you can feel that love in this film and that you feel it in your own body :)
In this life everyone of us at some point, will need someone to help us. Just think about this and go and help someone or just give a smile. Thank you for this film. It is one of the best I have seen.

As a special ed teacher of students I wish we could do this with our students. He was so excited to learn while he was physically active. So many more connections can be made. And I can tell you that the video only showed a tiny snippet of what his mother had to do in order to make all of that progress possible. The amount of behind the scenes work is amazing and takes a strong positive person to do it!
When I looked at the number of 'Thumbs-Down' on this page, it was a bit upsetting to me. There's nothing.... not one single thing that's wrong or in any way negative. I understand that everybody has their own opinions and feelings but COME ON.....! RANT OVER! ANYHOO.... THANK YOU for sharing this touching, and very personal glimpse into Aidan's everyday life. I'm amazed how much progress his of motor skills from his perseverance, persistence and motivation to move. I am curious to know if Aidan would benefit from daily spending time in a Hyperbaric chamber, where he'd receive Rich, Pure Oxygen. This is GREAT & I strongly recommend for Children who have Autism, Brain Trauma or really ANYTHING.... it doesn't hurt to try. BLESSINGS, LOVE & LIGHT AIDAN~

People do different things for different reasons. Personally I gave a thumbs up as I imagine many others have done as well. The ones that turned the thumb down.........? Maybe they don’t like.........have no idea but I imagine they did have a reason. Is it just a few? Or a lot?
Right! What is it to dislike? I don't understand people. Sometimes it's just better not to say/express anything if it's not positive.
I, too, am moved beyond speech, as I wept !!! How beautiful all the people are in this documentary..the dancers (!!!).....but...ESPECIALLY THE MOTHER AND AIDEN !!!!! Without her strength, love and COURAGE...it would not have evolved as it has. Bravo to all. I watched this because I am drawn to examples of extreme courage and strength. I teach voice (opera) and vocal rehabilitation..but am even more interested in voice rehabilitation....which actually changes their perspective on their lives. The caring and love is palpable in Dale Carter !!
Aidan is a wonderful example to what anyone with disabilities are shouting .... Familiarity Breeds acceptance .... and with the right care, love and support people can reach a well deserved quality of life! Way to go team Aidan, you are all an inspirational merit to show the world what is possible!

I was born with hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy on my left side. I worked hard to be able to work a full-time job for decades. I am married with 5 kids. Life is hard, but I am grateful to God that I was able to accomplish many things, that seemed out of reach when I was a child.

You can't help smiling when you watch this at the same time get so excited when Aiden does something as if you know him and just really want him to do things that are meaningless and routine for us however to him it's everything. We probably shouldn't see it as so meaningless and routine after all but rather blessed. I know he's going to just keep progressing, good for him! As for his mom who is just as hard at work some single mothers are overwhelmed by one kid without special needs she is such a good mother and selfless person I will say though I see how tired and devastated she is it was in her eyes at the beginning but as Aiden started to progress it seemed like she also was healing right along with him because as the filming went on she clearly let some of it go and her smile became more and more genuine, then hopeful and, finally it became wholehearted and convincing that she herself was seeing a true miracle and knows that with a little work it'll be faster than she ever imagined because the hard part where he couldn't do anything is over. Aiden is a fighter and he's winning this fight as we can all see not only for him but her as well what an amazing woman and mother!! The mom and the pilot getting married that would be the perfect ending!!

Great job Aiden. I am so proud of you. You have come so far. You are a true inspiration Aiden and you never gave up, just like my husband. My husband has cerebral palsy too and he is fully independant, but I still have to do his exercises with his feet, ankles, knee's and hips. The doctor's said he would not be able to walk after 25 years old and he is 38 now and still walking on his own.

I was a special needs bus driver and have a big place in my heart for all that need help and a kind word. I notice in public people are indifferent to those with disabilities and tend to ignore them. A smile and a kind word can do wonders if one takes the time to do it. Even in retirement I will stop and talk to a CP child or adult and compliment about how nice something they are wearing is and wish them a nice day. Even though they can't respond I know they understand, as often I get a slight twitch of a smile.Then I great the caregiver.

I believe this is called Neuroplasticity. This is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment. Basically, it's brain training.
This moved me to tears and had us all captivated. The sheer energy and focus of these adults, their love and dedication...incredible! Aidan, your strength and courage has just begun to shine, there is so much more to come. Your joy and love for life is contagious, thank you young man, your story is inspiring and beautiful!

about it. This was such an inspirational story.. It was captivating.. To think years ago, they did just that.. Lay in bed waiting to die.. My partners stepson has C P and now also diagnosed with MS . He gets all around.. I didn't say it was easy, but what is easy.. He gets around with crutches, cane and alot of the time he used nothing.. No it isn't easy, but he wants life.. He has a beautiful outlook on life and he is willing to try anything.. And smart.. This guy is so darn smart. And he doesn't sit idley around waiting for it to come to him. He goes and gets it.. What an inspiration this video is. And the stepson, what an inspiration you are to all of us... Keep up the good work Aiden and also our stepson.. Aidan's mom is right! Children live up to or down to the expectations people have. If they are expected to be incapable of anything, guess what? They won't! If they are expected to roll, they will. Then they are expected to crawl.... Don't expect them to walk right away, but raise expectations as children reach attainable goals. His mother is right to hope that he can do more.

There was a boy at one of the schools I went to who was very much like Aidan, his name was Chris. Prior to meeting Chris, teenage me had a pretty dismal outlook on the efforts spent on folks like them, it took less than five minutes interacting with him to completely destroy every bit of negativity I'd had built in my mind.
He was very minimally verbal, what few words he did use were always spoken loudly and with such enthusiasm you couldn't help but be excited about them too. New experiences were met with so much joy, such unbridled happiness, you had to stop and wonder if you too could ever hope to enjoy things so completely. His smile could vaporize the worst of moods in an instant, and knowing you were the reason he was smiling... it was beautiful.
I sincerely hope that some day Aidan gets the chance to open someone's eyes, to truly change someone's life the way Chris did mine. I'll probably always wonder if Chris understood what a huge impact meeting him and interacting with him had on me, but I think he knew.

Beautiful story of your experience getting to know someone who was not like the people you were acquainted. Sadly, society has impressed upon us that anyone who is not like us doesn't have much value to the world. I am sure that Chris felt you were special as well. And Aiden is such an inspiration. I believe his condition will continue to improve. I cried tears of joy through the entire video. So happy for Aiden.

Working parent with a disabled kid would have never been able to manage the unbelievable break through which you've manage to achieve. And to have this super mom as a parent is a one in a million your blessed with the strength of god . And your helpers are angels as well . This video proves the mind is greater than we know it . i think people like aidan as well as aidan are angels sent here to make us have compassion.they know no evil,they are innocent,until a person abuses them.but for those whom help them,they also are special people indeeed.my best friend from as far back as i can remember had c p i knew him as my pal that wanted to play with matchbox cars with me lol.we drove the wheels off those suckers.love ya aidan. lil sister gets a lot of credit too,she's showing that she's with him doing what he wants to do as to give him an unspoken goal.

They do my brother has cp and a few other neuro handicaps but he managed to do a lot of things the doctors said he'd never do. Drs still don't know much about CP
It's a blessing to have such a therapy available to persons conventional medicine has given up on. I cried tears of joy throughout the entire video. It felt good just to see how happy Aiden became whenever he had an accomplishment. He has a very dedicated mother and that makes a huge difference in a child's life particularly if the child has a disability. Lastly, I want to see medical providers of conventional medicine start to provide referrals to alternative treatment options early on in a person's diagnosis. The goal should be to assist a patient in becoming well-live the highest quality of life as possible. And if that means providing information about treatment other than conventional medicine that has been successful, then, physicians ought to be willing to share the information and provide necessary referrals.
His useful advantage which will carry him far, is that he's a happy little guy!

This is an amazing story and the therapists are an amazing gift to the people they help but I do feel bad for Carina because as the mom admitted she has less time for her daughter and I know that Aiden requires a lot of one on one care. I can't imagine how hard it is for the mom to do everything all by herself with no help from the father, she's very strong and brave.

What a gorgeous man. Wonderful seeing Aidan stand too. The women working with him are angels. His mother a saint. Dear little sister needs quality time I would imagine. Aidan’s progress is incredible. Thanks of course to his lov8ng mother for her tireless efforts. Sad for his birth father not being able to part of the family or play a vital role in Aidens rehabilitation. I hope maybe one day he will feel strong enough to help his son and support his ex wife. She was not responsible for Aidens birth injury.
Hi.. i'm absorbing your strenght.. my 3 month to early born son (1986) healty but very low change to live healty in those years.. and easy catch illnesses... after 5 weeks he got namonia (good word in english?) and his brains got damaged by that.. but he survived and got stronger, had a will to live.. Afters some almost 3 month he was finaly going home.. and after 1 month he almost died (was laying blue in his cradle) so we did mount to mouth.. and again he lives and his appely brain-damage was not bigger.. so the first years he was so many times very very sick.. .. 5 years he does not speak.. laugh.. crawl.. or move his own bodyparts easy.. but then he begin to talk little words.. heavy to understand.. but till he was about 10 most people who took time.. could understand what he tells.. our mariage collapsed by it.. becasue is took all our time and energie, and i did it for both of my children. My ex could not handle that.. My other slder son has his own family and 2 children of his own, our grandchildren.. Today the yougest is almost 32 years, i managed to bring him up ad home till 18 years and then he got a place (little group poeple like him with helpers) but every 2the weekend he comes home and as long as we can shower and clothing him we wil try to do it.. He knows who and what and is a very happy and nice person.. and his brains develop.. but he will never stand..sit .. walk by his own.. had several operation nessesairy for painless live.. I'm almost 60.. and hope i can handle his man-like body.. for years and offer him the weekends to stau in his own bed ad our house.... and i work 5 days and the other week 4 days myself, so it still absorbs all energie.. he constandly needs my attention.. so.. i still absorbing a little strenght of you movie.. I'm remarried and my husband helps me where i need him.. and that is much more help than my ex did..

By the way little sister... You deserve a shout out all your own! It's nice to see you being very patient waiting for moms attention. She loves you both the same! God gave her 2 Blessings in you and your brother. To no fault of his own or Moms or yours Aiden needs a bit more hands on. Ask Mom to get a sitter for 2 hours for your brother so You and Mom can enjoy some "mommy and me only " time together. It is beneficial for YOUR HEALTH and Moms. He's a real trooper....I want to thank the center for coming up with treatment plans for special need childrens....I want to commend the mom for having faith, and not giving up I want to congradulate Aiden on pushing through.... thank you for sharing ☺☺☺

I am awestruck by those many angels who work with the kids. Such immense love and devotion. Surrendering themselves entirely to assist and hopefully enabled them to succeed. Without that dedicated staff there would be no progress. God bless them endlessly.

I've always used the old saying "Where there's a will, there's a way". It keeps me motivated to go forward when it's easier to just sit and go nowhere. I'm so extremely awed with those that opened the will in Aiden to find his way. This has been a beautiful story to experience. Thank you so much for sharing!
