Answering your question: Yes, the same Lionel that made (makes) toy trains. They had a rather large plant in Hillside, NJ that dated from the early part of the 20th century. By the time this set was made, Lionel was on hard times due to the influx of model race car sets and space-age toys. People moved away from toy trains, so to keep the place going, they took in contract work, this probably being some of that. Interesting note, AC Gilbert, the company that made Erector Sets and American Flyer toy trains, was at one time the largest manufacturer of electrical motors in the USA. They made motors for many appliances and also made motors for aircraft during WWII. Again, in 1966, when this set was made, AC Gilbert was shutting down for the same reasons Lionel was struggling. Perhaps that's how Lionel picked up the work? Great video, a pleasure to watch. I learn something with every video you make.
I used to go to a television repair shop, and came across a degaussing loop, and thought I would try if I noticed anything by wearing it around my head while it was plugged in! Nothing happened of course, but years later when it came out that people were paranoid about high voltage lines in their neighborhoods causing electromagnetic radiation possibly causing cancer and cell damage, I thought how ridiculous! I don't think this was ever proven!
Shango...you are well schooled on these era's TVs, when I first started in 1978, I worked on many of these type of tube chassis's, RCA and Zenith owned the market, Philco, Sylvania, and Quasar were prominent as well. troubleshooting down to component level... alignments on I.F circuits and mechanical repairs on the tuners. Well done sir..!!
Years ago, RCA was thought to be a reliable great product. I had several RCA "roundie" color TV sets. They all eventually had the same issue. Power issues were common both with the 21' roundie and 23" rectangular screens.The screen loses brightness and shrinks. Finally purchased another brand, Curtis Mathes combo TV-stereo-Am/Fm in beautiful 6' scandinavia cabinet. That was the best color TV I have ever owned. Had an 8 year picture tube warranty. Never had any problems.
Lionel also made transformers that were used in many WWII era military radios. Well you might as well use the correct flyback. Good to know the rectangular flyback could work in a roundie.
That internal degaussing helps maintain, but one that's truly dickered needs a bit more oomph and movement of the magnetic fields. Nice progress :) loving every minute of it.
Never get tired of hearing you talk. Especially when you start to turbotwinkulate. Back in the day I was putting CTC 11 Flybacks in CTC 16s. I wish I would have kept some of those flybacks.

When you demonstrated carbon tracking, it reminded of my uncle, who was a television repairman, telling me how the dishonest repairman would take a pencil and draw a line at some high voltage areas to cause eventual arcing, after a period of time, enough to cause static and interference on the screen so that they would be called back for that inflicted problem, and then just clean the carbon track away, and call it repaired to make the extra money!
Your commentary is always exceptional and very entertaining. Great fault finding and resurrect. Cool RGB colours, the carbon tracking arcage was epic. At 1:20:01 you can hear something pop.

I’ve learned a lot from this resurrection video. It seems like quite an adventure, and I can’t wait for the next installment! It is kinda sad that it’s gonna go right in the trash after it’s done, after all the effort you’ve put into it and will be putting into it in the future, but I suppose when it’s done, it would have served its last purpose of educating us on the operation of this era of vintage television.

Im a field tech in telecommunications. Running into rodents in our pedestals is extremely common in the Midwest when working in buried plant. They love to chew on wires. Not surprised by what kind of damage was done to the TV set.

Those coils look like a real pain! I would be reluctant to even run a screwdriver through any of those boards to stir up all that debris from Mother Nature. A thorough vacuuming would probably be sufficient.
If I ever acquired a starship, I would definitely want you to be chief engineer, I would need someone that can get the ship up and running after an alien attack or some space misadventure.
Though rats had gnawed through the power cord and audio cables of my dad's Pioneer turntable (which I easily found replacements for) over its years in storage, they luckily weren't able to harm its innards (only semi-internal part I had to replace was the decayed drive belt).

May I make a suggestion on cleaning up the boards is desolder them from the chassis stakes and clean them sepreatly off your chassis in an old good dishwasher it's NOT high pressure like your gasoline engine washer gets it really clean Desolder the peaking and other coils beforehand you do it in a regular dishwasher

Please keep this for the electoral debates... it's perfect for the occasion: It's color turned black and white, it's old, it's got various dubious circuits arcing randomly, it needs parts replacement AF, and the more it gets warmed up, the more it smells of rat piss. What's a good alternative to pressure washing, for those who want a clean set? My first idea would be soap water or isopropylene, and a paint brush. Any good/bad?
Spray bottle with simple green mixture, followed by soft scrubbing with a wet paint brush. A water rinse without pressure, then a soft blowdry with compressed air. Let air dry in the sun for a day. Any areas needing deeper cleaning can be done with a different cleaner and an acid brush.
@@gregorymalchuk272 "Simple green" is a popular cleaning spray which cleans up easily and leaves little to no residue. Smells decent too. Very good degreaser.
Purity: Any chance a GOOD manual degaussing would help (could it hurt)? PCB cleaning: anhydrous IPA, tweezers & low pressure vacuum (your shop-vac hose reduced to a soda-straw) not sure if the vacuum should be before the IPA. I would use a Flux brush trimmed to about 3/8" length for use with the vacuum (tweezers may be impractical). I remain fixated on the IPA for cleaning the PCB.
The knowledge this gentleman has on these old sets is astounding. Always a privilege to watch him work. Much respect sir.

My Grandfather had one of these. His was the black and white set. I remember watching Dainal Boone and Walt Disney on it.

Handy that you can do that. Our TV's over here have series wired heaters so all the tubes have to be in to work.

I converted a old propane tank into a compressed air container and added a regulator to it , great for blowing stuff like this off

actually , a friend of his bought the TV just for the CRT in it , which was removed , and swapped for a weaker one ( in the earlier video on this set)

What's a good alternative to pressure washing, for those who want a clean set? My first idea would be soap water or isopropylene, and a paint brush. Any good/bad?
Try a Water Pic. Works perfect and you have complete control over the pressure. The accessory brush works good also in addition to the pics.

Spray bottle with simple green mixture, followed by soft scrubbing with a wet paint brush. A water rinse without pressure, then a soft blowdry with compressed air. Let air dry in the sun for a day. Any areas needing deeper cleaning can be done with a different cleaner and an acid brush.

Any chance a GOOD manual degaussing would help (could it hurt)?
PCB cleaning: anhydrous IPA, tweezers & low pressure vacuum (your shop-vac hose reduced to a soda-straw) not sure if the vacuum should be before the IPA.
I would use a Flux brush trimmed to about 3/8" length for use with the vacuum (tweezers may be impractical). I remain fixated on the IPA for cleaning the PCB.
