I mean you can still take Stalkers, huntsmen, the melee dogs. Three of your big knights are still competitively costed. Rampager isnt bad just not top of the top in terms of cost.
I certainly can and I do. I like to have variety in my lists so 6 brigands isn't for me. And you're right, I really like the rampager for what it is. But addressing your points, when I take the other dogs, I feel like there just isn't a great point to it, from a competitive standpoint at least. Not everyone's preferred way of looking at it, I know, but I'm mostly against pretty strong armies, custodes, space marines (strong against knights at least) imperial knights etc... so that does matter to me. Karnivores cost more and the other dogs losing weapon skill and AP really hurts their consistency. And as for competitively costed big knights I'm not sure, I felt like they were competitively costed before, but, except for maybe the despoiler, I felt like the points increase was a lot more than they deserved. The heart of what I'm not happy with is that I struggle to find a reason to take a different model or models that isn't just 'I like it more'. Yeah it really feels like 9th edition lite right now. That said though i feel like there's more freedom with the lists i make. I've managed to have fun games with entire big knight armies, used my tyrant almost every game and found uses for pretty much every knight in a lot of different lists. The buffs war dogs get from larger knights can make for some great combos. I'm definitely disappointed by the army rule (and battleshock in general) and the points changes but im still making the most of it. In fact the points cost in particular gave me the shits. We're paying because of Imperial Knights. The despoiler does not deserve to be that expensive. Nowhere near as powerful as people make it out to be. Also, Karnivores slap. Nothing more satisfying than running up to a tank and just tearing it in half in one turn.
Are we though? We're barely holding onto our 45% winrate and for this past week it was 43%. We're on the weaker end, and got punished because of Imperial Knights being too good.
And we were so close to not just having another War Dog meta like in 9th before they nerfed everything with Towering into oblivion. I swear it's like they make these Knights datacards without wanting anyone to actually field a single, ACTUAL knight.
yeah they've ruined chaos knights again, luckily I only really play with a single friend so if/when j wanna play a knight or play knights I'll just undo the points nerf and not use the stupid towering rule. I don't know a single person who enjoys towering. it literally just removes an aspect of the game.
@@ryza7760 I do the same, i play with only a few friends and we just use the original points and dont implement Towering and we have a lot of fun playing knights (imperials or chaos), such an easy solution... no wonder GW will never implement it.

Unfortunately war dog spam is always going to pretty good, so that's keeping our win rate up and will leave us untouched. I would say our faction rules outside of the knights of shade stratagem are almost useless and besides taking a single desecrator or castigator you are actively hurting your list bringing any big knights.
The old problem Chaos Marines used to have with Cultists. When it's very easy to vapourize the big tough expensive guys, why not spam the little effective guys instead? Basically Knights will never be viable over Wardogs as long as knights cost 3x the points. Codex Wardog.
We FINALLY had a good reason to use our big knights this edition despite not being nearly as good as imperial knights !...and then we were caught in the crossfire, and now we're back to spamming wardogs... Maybe one day I'll be able to use 3 big knights competitively as a ck player...
Brigands, Desecrator + Long Leash, and a Castigator or two. Bring the comedy as you reroll your 1s and sustain your hits. Truly, Brigand is Brigand Tier.
When the chaos knights codex came out in 9th I bought the army box, painted them up as House Lucaris, had a load of fun playing them. Then I bought into daemons when their codex came out. Needless to say I'm in a pretty happy place with 2 strong armies that I can swap allies back and forth with depending on how I feel like playing. I like running a tyrant, desecrater, 4 brigands, and 2 karnivores. Give tyrant aoc and desecrater sticky objectives. My daemons right now is belkor, bloodthirster, lord of change, shalaxi, nurgle daemon prince, and 3 brigands. The 3 characters that can take enhancements do so. I'm having a ball lol. Would love to try an all war dog list though, just need 3 more boxes of wardogs (( wink wink ))
I just finished my paiting Abominant in Tzeentchy color scheme and since I started my Thousand Sons army I wanted to ally him there until I get more units. It will deffinetly be a mistake but it should still be fun.
I’m a thousand sons player thinking about knights and sort of starting this way, although I’m using knights as an excuse to go wild and paint something unlike my usual fare
I play mostly Slaanesh Daemons, and I ally in a night as way to A) get guns, and B) distract distract distract while the daemons get close. Daemonettes even see combat sometimes when there's a knight on the board giving them coverfire!

One thing to ad to the improved AP not being that impactful for the Melta for the Brigand AP -5 means that big targets without an invulnerable can't save anymore or only saves on 6 instead of 5 in cover. I'd say that's fairly big.
So war dogs are great, cool good to know. Now if we could actually BUY them from somewhere that would be better. Other than the ridiculous prices on ebay I havent been able to find them anywhere. Apparently they have been out of stock for a really long time.

Dual wielding Gatling cannons are incredibly nieche i've found with the despoiler. Unless you're firing into squishy infantry they do bugger all. I guess against orks, nids, guard and GSC they might be useful. That said i had a squad of neophytes kill mine in one turn before it could fire thanks to GSC being crazy meta right now.
Cheeky use of Brigand’s “closest eligible target” is with Dread Hounds, because the brigand(s) _must_ target a specific unit, that makes it by definition the closest eligible target…
Actually took home a tournament with these guys last month. List was -Despoiler w/ thermal cannon, chainsword, ruinspear pod, panoply of the cursed -Desecrator w/aura of terror -Brigand x4 -Huntsman x2 -Executioner Huntsmen were surprisingly effective, and using the despoiler as a distraction unit panned out very well.

To everyone that says CK pays because IK were to good: The problem is the towering keyword, not the IK army. In fact every towering unit have seen a significant point increase. Sure the IK rules are better, I'm not denying it, but the real problema were the point cost mixed up with the towering rule.
Wardogs are moving a minimum 12", T10, 12W, brigands and karnivores hit on 2s, can deliver a better tank shock than any tank, and have a 5+ invul at range. For between 135 - 160 pts.

At the moment its probably a negative. Only one War Dog model can take an enhancement, and most enhancements are worthless on a single War Dog. Which means it can get hit by Anti-Character attacks for no real benefit.
Honestly, tier 2 feels to high for Executioners. They're pretty much worthless. They struggle to kill even Guardsmen since theyre only ap1 on the autocannons. You can get better units to screen out of demon allies. Moirax is overcosted, but Executioners are the only genuinely bad War Dog.
I don't really get the hype around the brigands, sure they have 2+ attacks but they're also lacking in melee. I generally play against the Tau and I would much rather play a huntsman.
The problem is the Huntsman's melee is poor. Better to have the Brigand's gattling cannon instead. Especially as it has the 2+ BS. I only take a Huntsman when points run out for a Brigand.
It's with noting that I support your patrion because you put a lot of work into this and provide a great service to the community as a whole. With that being said I've never wanted to win a give away more than this!
The main issue of the CK is that thier main rules are crap. If they want to make a faction centered around battle shoock they should have some sort of stacking mechanic and have the BS tests be taken at the end of every movement phase. Right now the only thing that holds the faction together is the strength of their datasheets and with the big knights taking the blanket nerf war dog spam is the way competitively. I want to see some pts dropping, especially from the abominnt. He really needs to go back to about the 390 mark
I've been having fun using Knights as allies for exactly the reasons you said. Army rule sucks? Dump it. Ally 3 Wardogs in to a Daemon or CSM list and let them rip face without even worrying about their garbage army rule. Just a big sheet wrecking stuff while your Daemons teleport in extremely close and regenerate wounds, or while your CSM load the right ammo for the job or whatever.
nah tbh the reason it sucks is because volkite is just worthless lmao. if it was a plasma blast gun then I'm sure it'd actually be okay. not good, because gw refuses to let big knights ever be better than wardogs

Managed to go 4-0-1 at Leeds super major a few weeks ago with CK. Have say I think the tyrant is one of the best units in the army

Army rule sucks? Dump it. Ally 3 Wardogs in to a Daemon or CSM list and let them rip face without even worrying about their garbage army rule. Just a big sheet wrecking stuff while your Daemons teleport in extremely close and regenerate wounds, or while your CSM load the right ammo for the job or whatever.
Brigands best unit is Death Guard and World Eaters

nah tbh the reason it sucks is because volkite is just worthless lmao. if it was a plasma blast gun then I'm sure it'd actually be okay. not good, because gw refuses to let big knights ever be better than wardogs
@@ryza7760 I was trying to make a joke, given the abominant is the new, shiny big knight, and it's been given rules that are apparently not good, so clearly they don't need to sell anymore. I don't play the game, i just like listening to auspex on my walks, he makes videos long enough that they just fade into white noise.
