Travis became that way because of the first 2 companies he ever founded the first one was sued by the music business for billions which made them go bankrupt and the second was an attempt to make those who wronged him the first time become his customers it worked but it took an awful long time for it to do but in the end he became a millionaire, the way I view his time at Uber is that he realized early on that what he had was a once in a generation company, fixing a problem that we all dealt with on a daily basis, and he had stumbled upon the perfect solution, but what he faced was the same billion dollar industry, this time the taxi industry, that was against any type of innovation and was in the business of milking their customers as much as possible. You might say he went overboard and I wouldn't excuse him from the culture Uber had back then and misogynistic workplace they had developed, because let's be honest that was the final nail in the coffin for him, at the same time he had taken a little known startup that most people thought would fail into a 69 billion dollar juggernaut that was integral to everyone's lives and became a verb and potentially was going to become known in the same breath as the FAANGs

With the exception of Travis Kalanick (Uber), noticed that none of the founder ever put the CUSTOMERS first and explain their PRODUCTS thoroughly. It was always about the shareholders and other stakeholders who had equity (ie. employees options, etc).
They forget that the customers, at the end of the day, vote with their money! And none of them seem to understand that Economies of Scale is required to expand their business. Instead they focused on publicly marketing their company for the sole purpose of raising capital through multiple series investments (similar to a Ponzi scheme).
Uber actually changed the transportation industry with tons of value-added attributes:
    - SPEED (you know when the ride will arrive),
    - COST AMBIGUITY (Cabs never tell you the exact cost),
    - RELIABILITY (Cab dispatch will say ten minutes then it becomes one hour),
    - COMFORT/CLEANLINESS (Cabs are dirty since they might have gum, gunk, j*zz, etc),
    - ACCOUNTABILITY (Uber allows riders to send a driver service reviews),
    - CHOICE (Cab vehicles are random, with Uber you have a choice),
    - PAYMENT EASE (Uber rides are paid with pre-registered credit cards whereas Cabs you might fumble with cash or credit card),
    - COST (Uber is usually cheaper, plus with all the value features stated above)...

All four demonstrate a common trait ...
They fast talk , scuttle really quick , are agitated, no one appears to be calm and composed, and change the tone rather quick.
Also, and it showed in Travis Kallanick speech , they tend to distort facts to fit their own version of narrative.
So they all gloss their message with lofty goals .
And by the way their voice intonation modulates in intensity , but unevenly, to highs and lows.
All the above are traits shared by pathological liars.
For the Uber fanboys out there. He claims granted Medallion licenses haven't increased since the 40's. That is a big fat lie. Medallion Licenses had been auctioned off several times through the past 60 years.
He never made a claim about poor service, just about how much medallion owners netted in a year. That is investment. There are stakeholders , in the case of NYC and others as well....
Insurance carriers and agents. Taxicabs pay the highest premiums on passenger cars.
    Mechanics
    The TLC and Hackney
All those emigres driving a taxicab or were clinging by their nails to get a piece of the American Dream.
Also, missing from the narrative ,money of them created value to the economy and or society.
The Robber Barons of the past at least provided or left something of value based on the aforementioned premises.
