First and foremost John was injured, but not critically. He received three shots in the duel, first one right arm just above the elbow, second left shoulder third left lower abdomen. Of those shots none were fatal, in fact the left shoulder and left lower abdomen were already done to another character in JW3, the Doctor that helped till the time was up. Far as i know, he's still alive and the shooting threw off the sent of the adjudicator. Unless it was the total accumulation of injuries, that is a possibility, but rare case in a movie. As far as a way to get him back in? Sofia. She was forced to help him, due to a marker, there has to be repercussions. I can see John going back in, to protect a friend. We could start, with one of the few remaining plot holes in the series and close it up. We could also see John enlist both Caine and Mia and there could be a story where Mia forgives Caine for the death of her father. While I do think JW4 was a perfect bookend to the series, if a good story, I welcome more JW
Being a martial artist i absolutely love the JW movies. There is so much action going on at the same time, there’s no way you can view and take it all in one viewing. And who doesn’t love firearms and TTI guns!!!!!!
Keanu Reeves is John Wick. The movie wouldn’t be the same without him. I know he said that the movies were very physically challenging for him, but I’m sure he’ll work something out. These movies just keep getting better and better. Can’t wait for number five.
Tbh. I want her, nobody, Caine, and Akira to pop up again. I dont want their story to end with JW3/4. There's still SO much more that can be explored with them.

The High Table could never allow John Wick to live, especially after the events of the 4th movie. Even if they stated that they would leave him alone, they could not be trusted to keep their word. Therefore the best way for John to ensure his survival would be to fake his death and go into hiding. The only thing that could possibly bring him out of hiding is if the High Table threatened a Family member or a Close Friend, perhaps Winston.
There's that, but I also theorized that the Japanese guy's daughter swore revenge on that blind guy for killing her father. The blind guy is supposed to be out, and therefore killing him would provoke the High Table to hunt her. John Wick figured this would happen, and faked his death to come back later to protect her when she is hunted.
I hope they continue to make more jhon wick movies. I thought all 4 were amazing. Yes the last 2 were a little predictable but it was done in good taste. They didn't completely ruin it like other similar movies. They should do a prequel about jhon and his wife. Thats how the story started. I was always curious to see how he got out of the Russian mob in detail.

In a way you can see John elapse into the darkness of losing his wife (stage 1 Shock), then thinking he could easily be free again (stage 2 Denial). In 4, we see John act within the system, to use the duel to become free and return to the light (stage 4 Bargaining). So you working again, John?" All the car chases, mass casualty events in the streets...I guess the cops just said, yeah right... no way, it's John just let him go. They probably have a special code for John. Maybe call the National Guard? John in a tank...or on a 50 cal. there's an idea.

The stage is abandoned by law enforcement and military forces and left for protagonists and antagonists to spread mayhem while fighting each other and being completely unopposed by law and order. Well, sometimes bad guys kill the police but good guys can't, so... there is simply no police in their way.
I'm a simple bloke with simple needs, I like movies where everything explodes and the hero walks away at the end. To make the plot in John Wick more complicated would be like putting custard on fish and chips, it's unnecessary, and would otherwise spoil a great time. 🙂
Reading the comments, I to would love a prequel to flush out all the details that created this beast. With that said, if they do one I hope it is tasteful and they remember to tone it down as John would not have the same drive as these movies. It would just be a job and a way of life to him. Kind of like Marcus and every other assassin in the franchise.

Looking forward to the next John Wick movie, AND Ballerina, that's really got my interest perked up. Anna was AWESOME in her action scene in Die Another Day, in fact, SHE was the best part of that movie, so I can't wait to her in action.

If they were smart, they would also take this time across two releases to build and promote Wicks successor. (Sadly, all actors age out of a franchise) Unlike the Disney debacle, this could be made to work over the next several years with the proper actor/actress introduced properly. A good back story, leading into wicks eventual replacement, and continuation of an awesome story.
They might show that he is alive and is going after the high table from the shadows. I wonder since his arc could be closed who would be the new and upcoming assassin to fill his shoes. Can’t wait to see 5 and ballerina.
Replacing the John Wick character, or even replacing Keanu Reeves with someone else would kill the franchise. It would be like replacing Jack Sparrow with any actor other than Johnny Depp. It wouldn't be accepted and would flop.
fun fact (and slight spoiler) The gunshot wound that John receives in the 4th movie are the exact same that the doctor receives in the beginning of the 3rd movie and the doctor does survive

The John Wick movies are the one of the few series where all of them are really well down and can be watch whole series or one at a time anytime and you will still be entertained!
I kinda wish they would've let sleeping dogs lie and created a prequel to how he became a legend but I'll never complain about a new John Wick coming out.
They should just take a page from John Woo's A Better Tomorrow films; If you make a movie that becomes hugely popular, and you want to make a sequel but you unfortunately killed off the hero in the first film, just bring the hero back, (or at least the actor who played the hero) only this time as his twin brother. I like the whole idea of the John wick world but I feel like they could go an entirely different way and do some kind of character drama involving the history of the environment instead of just all out balls to the wall action. Give us something within that world but with a different kind of movie. Like give us a story of someone who goes around setting up the different hotels and the world around him and what makes him tic.
It seems to me in John Wick 4 he dies in a dual and is buried with his wife. Let's see how they write this one in. Was it miss direction of the Wick fans or does he come back to life from beyond?
hmm I was kinda liking how they wrapped it up like he died ... like they were old school guns that are pretty brutal for leaving lethal infections and lead poisoning etc , oh well guess they are doing a hitman code 47 , I thought they were doing a prequel going back to how the bonds were made
Because of these movies I have upped my firearm collection and training which is bad for my bank account but hey…the movies are bad ass and I love my Taran Tactical collection.
I can tell some people here don't watch movies. JW4 had some of the most interesting and dynamic fight scenes. Example being the dragons breath shotgun scene. Oh yeah, don't forget Donnie Yen in that kitchen fight sequence.

I'm a simple bloke with simple needs, I like movies where everything explodes and the hero walks away at the end. To make the plot in John Wick more complicated would be like putting custard on fish and chips, it's unnecessary, and would otherwise spoil a great time. 🙂
I love all of John Wick movies.
Reading the comments, I to would love a prequel to flush out all the details that created this beast. With that said, if they do one I hope it is tasteful and they remember to tone it down as John would not have the same drive as these movies. It would just be a job and a way of life to him. Kind of like Marcus and every other assassin in the franchise.

Looking forward to the next John Wick movie, AND Ballerina, that's really got my interest perked up. Anna was AWESOME in her action scene in Die Another Day, in fact, SHE was the best part of that movie, so I can't wait to her in action.

If they were smart, they would also take this time across two releases to build and promote Wicks successor. (Sadly, all actors age out of a franchise) Unlike the Disney debacle, this could be made to work over the next several years with the proper actor/actress introduced properly. A good back story, leading into wicks eventual replacement, and continuation of an awesome story.

Replacing the John Wick character, or even replacing Keanu Reeves with someone else would kill the franchise. It would be like replacing Jack Sparrow with any actor other than Johnny Depp. It wouldn't be accepted and would flop.

They should just take a page from John Woo's A Better Tomorrow films; If you make a movie that becomes hugely popular, and you want to make a sequel but you unfortunately killed off the hero in the first film, just bring the hero back, (or at least the actor who played the hero) only this time as his twin brother. Jim Wick, anyone?

At the end of the 4th movie. In the scene at the graveyard. John Wick's dog looks away all of a sudden indicating John is not dead. 😄
Can only hope that this next take brings in the old Wick back into completing Wick 3, as Wick 4, was a disaster so far off track that I thought I was watching a completely new Wick TV series.

I like the whole idea of the John wick world but I feel like they could go an entirely different way and do some kind of character drama involving the history of the environment instead of just all out balls to the wall action. Give us something within that world but with a different kind of movie. Like give us a story of someone who goes around setting up the different hotels and the world around him and what makes him tic.
Straightforward plot isn't a bad thing at all and majority of us agree
It seems to me in John Wick 4 he dies in a dual and is buried with his wife. Let's see how they write this one in. Was it miss direction of the Wick fans or does he come back to life from beyond?

hmm I was kinda liking how they wrapped it up like he died ... like they were old school guns that are pretty brutal for leaving lethal infections and lead poisoning etc , oh well guess they are doing a hitman code 47 , I thought they were doing a prequel going back to how the bonds were made

I can tell some people here don't watch movies. JW4 had some of the most interesting and dynamic fight scenes.
Example being the dragons breath shotgun scene.
Oh yeah, don't forget Donnie Yen in that kitchen fight sequence.
