This is a great video. Thank you! Do you ever have customers complain about the stitching on the back of the ear? I make the classic cubbies but have been afraid to offer the dumbles because I wasn't sure if customers would complain about being able to see the back stitching. Would it be possible to see what the back of the ear looks like?
+Anna Baughn Hi Anna, In this video I am using a 12" cubbie. His ears are about 5" so, fairly large! Here is the link to the cubbie at AllStitch.net www.allstitch.net/product/baby-cubbies-12-elephant-wembroiderable-ears-blue-5044.cfm
At the time of making this video, I wasn't exactly sure how to cut the little guys ear open and sew him back. I know it can be done. I actually haven't tried to. Most of these little baby stat stuffed animals are used as displays, so people looking at it won't see the embroidered bobbin thread on the back. They will just see the beautiful work on the front!
Whitney, your video is great.. I have this cubbie but mine seems to have something hard like plastic in the ear. How do I embroidery with this in the ear ? This will be my first one to do. Thank you
I would suggesting using Sewer's Aid. It is a silicone based lubricant for embroidery thread and needles. It will help your needle glide through the plastic with more ease. If you notice the needle sticking you can apply more Sewer's Aid. I bought mine from my local sewing store, you can also find it online, its fairly inexpensive. hope that helps, and glad you enjoyed the video
Doug and Debs Wragg it does. There are a lot of embroiderers that open up the ears and then hand sew them back together . I just don't open mine. Most of the time parents put these up on a shelf and the back isn't seen.
I am trying to make one for my grand daughter. I am having problems with the machine stopping and I have to restart. What kind of needle should I be using. And my machine ask me what kind of material and my options are polyester, wool, fleece corduroy and leather. Which one do I choose? Please help!!!
@ Charmayne Brunker, I am using standard all purpose 90/14 needles from Organ. I find them to work the best on pretty much everything. If you can find some Sewer's Aid (a silicon based liquid to help coat the needle) it will help the needle go through all the layers of the lovie. It is an extreme amount of material and batting. What kind of machine do you have? I find it interesting that it asks you what type of material you are using. Cubbies are polyester, and I believe that the batting is also a polyester. In the future, I would always go with the material that has the higher percentage.
Aanchal Karna what kind of paper are you referring to? A stabilizer, possibly? I use a tear away. I don’t use a cutaway on the backs of these little ears. If I didn’t answer your question please let me know.
+Dede Fuquay I use the software PE Design Next to digitize or design my birth stats. You can also use other programs that you can compile multiple files with.
בת-אל דרעי sure, my embroidery machine that I use in this video is a Brother Entrepreneur Pro PR-1000e There’s a newer version of this machine now, but they work very much the same.
I floated on the bottom because I don't like the bulk of my ear snagging on my needle heads, or getting in the way of my needles and getting stitched down. I've done that, haha, and it isn't pretty to pick out.
Amber Wa, I have an Entrepreneur Pro PR-1000e which I am using in this tutorial. I also just added a single needle to my collection :-) It's a PE 770, both are by Brother.
+Sheila Newhouse Thank you for your input. I will keep that in mind in my other videos. I am looking into buying a mic, so maybe that will help. What part of the hoops would you like for me to explain? I would happily message you back with more detail.
I would've loved if you explained more about the hoops and especially the FRAME

Gwen D if you use the same color thread on the back of the ear that is the same as the color as the elephant it kinda hides it.
What size did you make the design for the birth stats?
What size cubbie is the one in the video?

Can I ask a question? Why did you embroider through the ear and not open the ear up to embroider?

Why do u put the ear under the hoop and not floated on top of hoop

Great video! I never would have thought to float the ear under the hoop! Makes sense.

If I could have heard you and if you had taken your time to explain the hoops this video would have been better
