Fun fact, on the whiteboard it says to get the paper, run an analysis, and then find the printer. Investigators actually can do this. Almost all printers come with a machine identification code. Usually a series of dots that are very hard to see printed onto the paper. Investigators can use these dots to find out the serial number of the printer, and the time and date that the document was printed.
In 2018 some scientists found a way to hide the dots from scanners.

I also remember in the 90s here in America, there was even a point democrats wanted to ban first aid supplies (specifically clotting agents and stitching supplies) as they wanted people to only be able to get treated at the hospital. That was of course struck down pretty quickly, but it did start a trend where many medical professionals refused to teach any civilian that wasn't a professional how to treat gunshot wounds. RUclipsrs like Skinny Medic and then orgs like Stop the Bleed successfully reversed this trend, thankfully.
Too many people place too much unfounded trust in the government. Even in a trustworthy government, a good government will always encourage citizens to be self sufficient, because a good government will not be afraid to admit their own shortcomings in logistics.

Ooooooohhh, so THAT'S why gun control is such a heated issue
I hear there are some reliability issues with these 2D printed guns. The thin magwells mean that users often have difficulty getting the magazines to seat properly. Difficulty getting a round to chamber is also a common issue apparently. I'm not sure about how safe they are to use, but I can't imagine that a chamber printed out of 1/16th of a millimeter sheet of paper is as safe and reliable as a standard handgun chamber. I believe the threat posed by 2D printed guns may be overstated, and considering the slow rate at which legislature progresses, it is likely that the technology behind 2D printed guns will have progressed too far for any regulations to be effective.

How do 3D Printed guns hold up nowadays? Last time I looked at it a while ago the guns didn't really hold up very well against repeated use.

What I do know is that metal FDM 3D printing exists, and treadmill surface FDM 3D printing commercially available to consumers is starting soon. (Yes, monocoque long rifle fabrication)
The challenge is pretty much the same issue with old era muskets: material tolerance vs gunpowder combustion pressure.

@@doomyboi They hold up extraordinarily well now, if you allow the use of an easily homemade barrel and bolt out of just a common pipe and a solid hunk of metal you could pick up at pretty much any hardware store. Look up the FGC-9 or Ctrlpew on RUclips. I thoroughly recommend.

i love how this perfectly highlights just how extremely detatched most authorative bodies are from it's people and the technology they have available the TSA wanted to crack down on 3D printers for this exact reason while they themselves were completely unaware that the people that have actually managed to print functional parts for guns have access to really high quality printers and not to mention usually have a financial incentive such as making some money by selling stuff like flashlight clips or handle scales meanwhile they completely ignore the prospect of making actual honest to god explosives from fertilizer and diesel. what i mean here is authority fears progress in every field thinking it will upset their position they do not care for the citizens thy only work to cement their own power

The fact that nobody actually fires a gun in this video makes me feel as though the actual gun is literally just a sheet of paper with no other properties.
Technically, it’s not a Beretta if it’s not made in the factory. It’s just a printout of a gun with the same kind of frame. It’s probably more prone to failure, honestly. It’s got a weirdly thin barrel and magazine well.

I once had someone over, a very non-tech person.
I showed her my 3D-printer and a few of the useful things I printed to repair a lot of stuff.
She told me she's not into that, because she heard in the news, that people print firearms with them.
She didn't understand, that plastic is not really suitable to sustain the forces of a bullet getting fired. I thought it was common sense, but apparently not.
You'd be surprised mate, they are good for some shots before the force wears them down and that's if they haven't been reinforced with metal
