Verlorenvlei Festival of Lights

The second annual Verlorenvlei Kunste Fees, or Festival of Lights, took place during the 2012 September school holidays. A week long arts and performance workshop aimed at stimulating local children during their holidays, the Festival is facilitated by the Magnet Theatre Group who provide community intervention programmes to communities.
During the festival various workshops are provided for the children of Redelinghuys namely; storytelling, drama, lantern making, singing and performance workshops with the aim of introducing new skills to a community of kids hungry for entertainment and inspiration.
The week-long festival culminates with the burning of the largest lantern - a ritual that symbolises a fresh start to next year's festival.
Our purpose is to ensure that every child in Redelinghuys finds strength in their own abilities, apply their imagination and use the knowledge they gain over the festival period to assist in their future endeavors.
