What about when you have forced yourself to be around them and its been misery for you every time? Not because they are so bad but just because you dont like their company. They are sarcastic, self centered. Obsessed with politics and are on the opposite side of thinking than you. At what point is it not social anxiety and its just i don't enjoy your company. Do we have to force ourselves to be around these people just because they are family?
Holiday parties with family members and close friends are usually pretty good for me. But office functions/gatherings/parties are when and where my social anxiety is really off the charts! Also, being around extreme extroverts is terrifying! Not to mention the fact that I also don’t drink alcohol. Once you’re 21 and over, EVERY adult event of any kind gives people the excuse to get wasted in some fashion. It’s a pity one’s own alcoholic intake determines one’s social standing in adulthood. 😢
