      Hell yeah. Yall are hardcore! We were going over thinking "those girls are nuts!" Glad yall are ok. And yes we are halfway through the smokies. Slow going with the snow but we are getting there one step at a time!

    You are doing great. I love how you are showing your humanity, worrying about the unhoused. Four or five years ago my 1st cousin died in a doorway on a really cold night in Panama City Florida.

    • @WanderwithSam
      @WanderwithSam  6 дней назад +1

      Up there I wouldn't even attempt it. That's some serious wilderness up there

    • @ShelbyWalkerAdams

      Yes it is. And a lot of snow and ice. We recently had a very experienced hiker head up a 4,000 footer. Call his wife from the summit to double check that she didn’t need him to pick up anything from the store on his way home. And then slip on ice and fall over 100 feet to his death.
      But then when you started talking about the homeless. I stopped and took a breath. It’s so true. I worry about maybe 5 cold nights a year when I do seasonal hiking. The homeless battle cold almost every single night for about 8 months out of the year here in New England. We are truly blessed.

    Don't give up on your pants. Someone will have needle and thread. You can take them up so they fit again. (I'm the ultra tight hiker, and can't stand to waste money)

    The homeless live in their clothes, socks and shoes daily. No matter how little they own they are willing to give their last dollar away.... I know this because I work for an overnight men's shelter.

    Just for your information, Blood Mountain is the 6th tallest mountain in Georgia. But the tallest on on the trail. Brasstown Bald is 350 feet taller. But what the heck are you talking about being cold in Georgia? Just wait a couple more days… oh yeah, you’ve already experienced it 😂 now you can say it’s cold!!!

    • @WanderwithSam
      @WanderwithSam  6 дней назад +3

      True. Thank you for letting me know. Sometimes I just go by what people tell me. I have to do my own research before posting lol. And yeah -4 was our coldest haha

    The homeless issue is very complicated but one thing that is true America’s hate poor people. If this was not true we would not allow it to continue. It’s never mentioned in any political speeches or debates. The average American is very soft and has no understanding of truly hard times. Instead we complain about them and don’t demand our country do something. We have had a war on drugs for decades and spent trillions with absolutely no return. The war on drugs makes a lot of money for many. Border security, prisons workers , lawyers, judges, police workers endless OT. etc. it’s a giant cash cow. Homeless, you’re on your own. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results. Take care and stay warm.
