I'm confused, isn't King Olaf the most famous Norwegian king? And not the one no one knows about? In my grandmother's small town (in Norway) there's a giant statue of king Olaf.
If I am not very mistaken, this guy Olaf is featured in the Norvegian series (TMK has two seasons) "Beforeigners", which is IMHO very well made and watchable. After what was related here, I think that his depiction in it does the historical reports justice *shiver*.

@@sirchromiumdowns2015 Re "Beforeigners": I happened upon its late-night emission on a small channel which I do not remember anymore, but you can google it, or maybe already stream it (I do not have any of Netflix et al., so no advice here). Not all celebrate Halloween, where I live, in Europe, we have a totally different holiday on that day, we celebrate St. Tryphon, and our version of Halloween is not about the same things as in America, we do different things, like honoring our deceased relatives and ancestors.
Who knows what happened to that poor young man though in those times. The rage of a young boy to kill a full grown and well known man in a small village must have been blinding. I'm sad to hear he lived a life of so much tumultuous disarray of experiences. But without those experiences....would we know his name? And does it even matter to him? lol!
Well Harald Greycloak would later meet a horrible end . The danish king Harald Bluetooth managed to become overlord over norway sometime in the early 960'es . So Harald became Greycloak became vasaller under Bluetooth. Later in 970 he fell out of favor with the danish king . So Harald Greycloak was called to Denmark by overlord. He ended up in Northern Jutland at the Limfjord. Where he is was killed on Harald Bluetooths orders
It would have corroded, and the remains, if there were any of the armor or some bones would be far away, water can shift things far from the location where something fell in the ocean.
Ok wait. This kid is taken captive and into slavery at age 3. Three. But some time later he can tell a man his parents names? 3 year olds know mommy and daddy. Unless his various owners were teaching his ancestry to him..which is possible but he's a slave..why would they? Further he's nobility...again who eould tell him that while owning him? He wasn't going to be able to rattle off his descent from his own memory. Doubt ensues.
Christian or wicked, but not both!!! He maybe called himself a Christian, but he was not one if he was wicked… you cannot serve two masters! If he was wicked, he served the devil!

Cleaning the lens per se of that filter so we can see the truth behind it, and also if we have been interpreting things wrong. Gidday. Given the mixed history between the British Celts and the Vikings, nothing surprises me. Also realise that the Roman Empire had everything to do with the Christian gospel being spread across the Northern Hemisphere. While the Vikings were no saints, neither were the Romans. Everything that you described about a formerly pagan king accepting Christianity actually aligns with both the gospels and history. The prophecy he received proved true. Does God use history? Yes he does. Does God use sinners? Yes, he does. Does God save pagans? Yes he does. Does God use former sinners, or former pagans, to further his gospel message? YES HE DOES. Please stop judging historical events through the eyes of modern human judgement, and instead view them through the long term lens of God. God truly has the biggest view of history. If you actually read the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, you also will know that God chooses people that other humans would never choose to carry out His Will. I could carry on for ages about how God used people during WW2. That, in itself, is a huge discussion.
Omg I feel so early, keep up with these amazing videos ❤
Yooo this history is NUTZ !!!!
They should make a movie on this !
This is crazy !!!
Exactly what I said!
I love you’re narrating instead of the other way ❤ ! Great video 🎉
I feel like the Vikings series on History Channel must’ve taken heavy influence from this man’s story.
Same with The Last Kingdom on Netflix
A Viking man can impress women by demonstrating how he takes his longship up a canal to deliver seeds which can be planted in fertile places.
nice
most any man can do that. it's how he acts outside the canal that matters--can he defend and provide for the seeds that sprout?
It's not the size of the ship matters it's all about how you sail it

Be cool to see a video, about spooky stories throughout history, since Halloween is approaching 😮

Cool story can't wait for the movie 👍⚔👍
A great history channel... That perfectly shows the "Hollywoodification" of history.......
Fascinating, they ahould make a movie!
I think it sounds like so many other religious legends. Enough truth to make it believable with enough hero worship to make it unbelievable.
Just when you think it can't get any worse...

Novgorod wasn't a small village, it was a big place, as big as cities in those days were, it was the capital of a very important Slavic state.

I wonder if archeologists went to the area of his supposed death to see if they can find his armor. That would not have floated away.

if yall liked this you have got to watch vinland saga
Isn’t this an anime?? Or am I bugging
I just googled and an article says some of the most popular anime’s are taken from actual history.
Yea, it's called Vinland Saga. The 1st season is pretty good. Much better than the 2nd season, I found.
Fun fact: Harald Bluetooth is why it’s called Bluetooth today. Named after him
Yeah good ol Harold uniting the local devices 😂
Is that why the B in the Bluetooth looks like a rune
