It begs the question as to why Thomas Wooden Railway didn't have specific road pieces available for individual sale, namely the Ascending and Switch pieces. Sure, you could get Ascending Road with the Mountain Overpass destination or the Elevated Roadway Expansion Pack (which also came with two Roadway Stacking Risers), but the road switches were harder to come by, since they were only available in the Zany Brainy-exclusive Deluxe Chocolate Factory Set. ERTL had a short-lived Wooden Roadway system called Hometown Roadway in 2002, which had its own set of road switches available for individual sale. Unfortunately, likely due to its target audience of young children being more interested in trains than road vehicles, Hometown Roadway sold poorly and was discontinued in 2003. Everything in that line is now rare and expensive. I did a Wooden Roadway Discussion on my favorite destination from that line, the McDonald's Drive-Thru Restaurant, in early 2022.
