I sailed here from the mainland about five years ago and jumped ship in Lahaina. Was homeless on the beach at mile marker 14 for three weeks until I found a fish farm to volunteer on. Never been homeless since. There are many places on Oahu he can go get off the streets because I've searched Craigslist and they are there. I must admit, I'm not an addict. This really matters. But now I'm on The Big Island and already people are offering me free land. Mental illness is a big problem when it comes to being homeless. There is help. But paranoia keeps the homeless away and this is terrible. I pray for my fellow brethren on the streets. Good job getting the word out with your videos.
It’s true there are shelters and jobs available, but so many people are in bad shape and nowhere near ready for these opportunities. Thank you for your perspective brother, God bless 🤙🙏
So what is the solution??? Counseling??? People need to want to get help... Focus on them. It's very difficult to turn you back on people because they are comfortable in their misery. But many people on the streets just need a hand up. Choose the people you help wisely. God Bless You
@@ryanvargo3131In my opinion, the state of Hawaii has to stop traumatizing its people. Because then addiction and mental issues take over. Many more people could be saved this way, rather than try to help them after they’ve been traumatized. But the people of Hawaii would have to be prioritized over foreign investors and luxury developers. Agriculturally, stop growing crops that don’t feed people. And we’re just not seeing that.

I just wanna add that homelessness doesn’t mean addiction n mental illness. We have a pernicious economic system that only cares about profits. In the coming years, many people will not be able to afford to live. Plenty of hardworking young and old individuals who are trapped. @@Abelplusplus you’re right, and those issues are amplified here in Hawaii. Thanks for the reminder, never want to assume someone’s situation based off a single interaction
Dear Father in Heaven, Please have mercy on this man, set him free from his addiction, and save him by Your indwelling Spirit. I ask in Jesus Name, Amen!
Dear Society, Please commit the necessary resources to help this man overcome his addiction, depression, and other health issues. Establish the services required to lift him out of poverty so that he may gain the confidence and self-esteem to provide for himself, reunite with his family, and contribute to the society that supported his recovery. Addictions aren't a disease. They're a choice and I don't feel bad for full grown adults who CHOOSE drugs over everything. Grow tf up and get your life together.
let me give this guy some perspective. i work full time and i'm struggling to live in hawaii too. prices are out of control on anything and everything. it's not easy and it never will be. either get off your ass and work hard and struggle or just give up. those are the choices.
I work full time on top documenting Honolulu’s homeless crisis. Just getting off your ass doesn’t work for the majority of people saddled by addiction and/or mental illness. They need more help than us.
