- The Expendables 3 (sometimes stylized as The Expendables III) is a 2014 American action film directed by Patrick Hughes and written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt and Sylvester Stallone.
It is the third installment in The Expendables film series and the sequel to The Expendables (2010) and The Expendables 2 (2012).
The film features an ensemble cast, including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Jet Li, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Kelsey Grammer, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Glen Powell and Victor Ortiz.
The story follows the mercenary group known as "The Expendables" as they come into conflict with ruthless arms dealer Conrad Stonebanks, the Expendables' co-founder, who is determined to destroy the team.
Released on August 15, 2014, it is the first film in the Expendables series not to be rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. It is instead rated PG-13, a decision that upset many fans. The film grossed $214 million worldwide.
Even worse. Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford were the best part. Never cared at all for the new team who were horrible. After this, this series is dead.
I still don't get the logic in who's okay these decisions to sabotage these franchises like this. Bring in unknown younger actors, limit action veterans like Snipes and Lundgren's screen time, make a throw back actioner PG-13, and most of the film cgi oriented. Obviously, the ones with the money don't know what they're doing.

Mel Gibson plays a great villain in this, but that's it.
The new team was so useless.... dismiss the old team, recruit a new one, only to have them get captured. I like the original team, and to have them pushed away was incredibly stupid. I agree that killing off some of them is necessary, and could have given more weight to the film, ultimately leading to a more meaningful, and avenging finale. We got all these kick ass action stars, but we're not going to use them to their full potential.
Matt, the inspiration for The Expendables is The Wild Bunch. It is a HARD R western before there ever was such a thing and the ending makes Commando look like Kindergarten Cop.

Great job on the rant bro I hated this back in 2014 and I still hate it more til this day Sly took everything that made the first film awesome and just pissed on it in the last sequel but here he pretty munch ripped it's throat out I really wish they don't bother doing another sequel? Please stop ripping us the fans are throats out because all the hard work he's done for the very first film would just be ruined the fact he forgot the reason why he did ''The Expendables'' in the first place IMHO!
Great Rant Matt, personally I didn’t hate Expendables 3, it’s Ok for me, I could enjoy it as a Time Waster, I Enjoyed Action, Stallone, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Kelsey Grammar, & Antonio Banderas did a Good Job, But a Very Flawed film, it didn’t need to be PG 13, it Felt Slow At Times, I Didn’t Like that it had a Younger Forgettable Generic Cast, & Jason Statham, Arnold, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, & Jet Li were Severely Under Utilized & weren’t given much Screen time, but it’s Ok for me but definitely my Least Favorite In the Franchise, I Love The Expendables 1, 2, & 4 Those are my Favorites in the franchise

I didn't bother to go see The Expendables 3. The first film was good, the second wasn't as good as the original, but okay, but the third is not worth seeing.

I loved both Expendables 1 & 2 both saw them in the theater but the 1st was 1 was better this 3rd 1 was a total sellout hated I think this is the worst Stallone movie The Specialist was better than this Judge Dredd had more going for it. I agree Licence To Kill owns this POS. I was super pissed at this movie when it came out cause I like Stallone loved The Rambo & Rocky movies. Even other stuff like Over The Top was pretty good from what I remember. Cobra is I thought was his best movie. I got a VHS of Daylight that was awesome movie. The finish was boring.

The first one is the best. Again they didn't give Jet Li more screen time where they could have sent him to join back the team.If I may give a suggestion where he returns in a scene with his martial arts attacking enemies.

I don't care what anyone says EX3 is a worst sequel then A Good Day To Die Hard. At least A Good Day To Die Hard had some memorable action scenes.
I would pick that over EX3.
just curious what would you want to see them do if they go ahead with the expendables 4 would you want to see it back to more like the first film or bloodier darker i know you really do not want to see a fourth film but just asking was curious on your thoughts
R-Rated with Actual blood squibs. Zero CGI. Tone down the humor. Zero Shaky Cam. No 'young newbies'. Kill off Randy Couture and Terry Crews aka make the team actually Expendable. Have only five or 6 good guys at most (Sly, Statham, Dolph, Wesley, and Jet Li...perhaps have Van Damme as the good twin of the villain of the second film...aka a nod to Double Impact, Replicant, Maximum Risk etc.) and a big team of bad guys that are noticeable action stars. Turn Arnold and Bruce Willis (after bringing Willis back) and turn them evil. A competent director ala John Woo.
I found Ex 3 to have entertainment value. They are not supposed to be great movies they're generic action movies. As long as they're is cool fight scenes and things getting blown up then I'm happy.

Matt you have to Respect to me i luv this movie Just Like Rambo III but i wont say this is worst action film i luv i saw it twice at theater i had fun with film but the only thing i hate about is PG-13 thats all i hated about the rest i liked luv the film its unrated for me but hey the movie is not for everyone but you hate it thats cool but i luv to SEE EX4 directed buy John Woo i luv to see

but the thing is Stallone needs to comeback for EX4 hes back in it, its not going to work without Stallone or Arnold its not going to work without it but the writers needs to write and change it then sly comes back then John Woo direct it why not. but the thing is they need to make EX4 better i thought sly was talking to statham they are making EX4 its going to be last film then he said maybe its not the last i am like what the f so anyway if EX4 is going to be last without sly or Arnold is going to BOMB just like this film but even more of destroyed then this. but i want Sly and Arnold to comeback but Arnold i expect to takeover Stallone spot but no he wont do movie without Sly, Sly did movie without Arnold in Escape Plan 2 ! i dont get it but for the writes they need to change it what sly wants to make the franchise Alive
