    I'm walking this in a couple of weeks. Glad I found your channel - you've really got me looking forward to it. That campsite in Lagos look weird enough for me to give it a miss, I think. I've got a trekking pole tent - camping on sand feels like it might be a no go....

      That site is fine really. I’ve used it a few times. It’s just very different to the rest of the trail. Thanks for watching and enjoy the walk

    Absolutely stunning man. I'd say that was tough going under foot in the sand. Incredible journey so far. Very interesting prison camp, I mean camp site the 1st night 😂 you got some crazy weather as well. Nice to dry off the gear in the change of weather I'd say. That camp site at the end looked very inviting. Roll on part 2. Good job pal.

      Thanks for taking a look Martin. Yeah, there sure was a variety of accomodation on the trip. That sand is tough. Ironoically, the rain made it easier!
      Part two will be along in a day or two...

    Very very, nice video, the storm made the landscape and the Atlantic very dramatic. But I can believe that is was a tough walk for you through these wind and rain.
    I'm going to walk these 4 days end of March, maybe a little bit further to Carrapateira, we'll see how the weather goes. And I'm also struggling with the same age related things like you, knees, back ...
    But this campgroud in Lagos, all these memories, I've been there on an awesome Interrailtrip in 1990 with some friends. Man, times flies...
    Happy hiking

      Thanks for watching Jim. Yes, the weather did add to the drama, and being from the west of Ireland, it made me feel more like home!
      That site in Lagos does the job.

    Great video Ian, added The Fisherman's trial to my bucketlist. Interested to see a gear video, looking at buying a new tent and backpack for some hiking in Poland next year.

      I certainly recommend it! My original plan this year was to walk the Polish Czech border trail but I ran out of year! I'd be interested to hear your plans for backpacking in Poland as it's something I'd love to do next year too. Take a look at the gear video and let me have any questions. I should really do a post-hike video and talk about what worked and what didn't...

      I wondered if you were going to cave and not camp in Zambujeira I said to myself. Lucky you found a place to stay, that town was fully booked last year the night we were there, I was glad to have the hostel already booked ahead. Too bad about your meal there too, we had an epic seafood meal with a whole bunch of us gathered.

      That sounds good. It was torrential and I literally booked the cheapest place in town as I walked up the main street. I got what I paid for. My arteries still didn't recover from the amount of cheese on that pizza.

    Well done Ian, looks like a great trip 👌 You definitely looked nervous at the start but you soon got into the run of it 👍 I'm not surprised you felt 💩 at the end of Day 4 and the hotel was definitely a good idea. As the thru hiking community says "hike your own hike" 💪 The sea was hugely impressive every day, you must still be hearing the noise of the surf in your dreams 🤣 Did you visit Cape St Vincent at all? Went there while on a family holiday in Portugal about 16 years ago, beautiful spot 😍 Looking forward to Part II 😊

    • @BarnabyNutt
      @BarnabyNutt  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, and thanks for watching. There are no safety issues at all. Obviously you're close to the sea and sometimes on high cliffs, but there is always an option to walk away from the edge if you prefer. Keep an eye on the weather and sea conditions for the following day.
      All of the towns felt safe and there are plenty of tourists around all through the year.
      You'll love it!

      Hello and thanks for watching. I only used regular camp sites which meant a shower and power whenever I needed it. If you’re used to wild camping, there are loads of places to camp along the route, but it isn’t really allowed. Arrive late; leave early and of course, leave no trace that you were there and I’m side no one will mind too much.
      If you need a list of the campsites I used then let me know.

      @BarnabyNutt  Год назад

      Thanks for watching Michael. I did the same - flew in to Faro and then got the bus from right outside the terminal into the city (€2.50 and the drivers all speak English). You just need to get off a couple of stops before the bus station and walk two hundred meters up to Decathlon. If not, I’m pretty sure all of the camp sites I used sold gas.
      I’m envious of you going - it’s really excellent
