Live kraftwerk from the early seventies always had me scratching my head as to what instruments were making what sound...especially their Krautrock era performances when it was just three people. The Neu members on guitar and drums respectively and florian on flute but his mic is running through all kinds of effects. I'm aware this is a later performance but still...and i agree this recording is brilliant I Love this song so much and it just blasts through the speakers. percussion so crisp and the synths/electric piano so clear!
All 4 band members are prevalent in this recording from February 27,1975. This is a list of their following instrumentals: Ralf-synth,piano Florian-flute,saxophone,synth Karl-Drums,vibraphone Wolfgang-Drums
There is in fact a Klaus in the band. Not Dinger, but rather Röder. He played violin on "Mitternacht" on the "Autobahn" LP, but he also played the vibraphone on the tour, like on "Morgenspaziergang" or "Kling Klang". There is a rather sax-like sound, but I can't put my finger on it. Wikipedia does suggest that Florian could play the sax, so perhaps he was also trained on that instrument. And maybe even used it? Other possibilities: synth or violin (perhaps by Röder)?
Klaus had joined them 1970-71, so it could have been him. There is definitely a sax in there, but I don't know who's playing it because there's also a flute, which was probably Florian. This could be all three - Klaus, Ralf, and Florian.
sounds more like a kazoo than a saxophone to me ;). Was it not perhaps just Florian feeding his flute into an EMS Pitch-to-Voltage convertor again and using that to play a synth?

Thank you for this, I needed this after I heard the news. R.I.P. Florien Schneider.

not , its a 1974... klaus dinger says in the xylophono
Klaus is playing the vibes, so the sax-like sound must indeed be Florian's rare saxophone performance.
What the hell was this recorded on? It sounds as clear as any recent show recording.

Flute. And it is Florian. I do not Believe that Klaus Dinger was with them at this point.
Indeed, Klaus Dinger was already in Neu! since a few years.
Just out of curiosity, are any of his synthesizers up for sale for for charity or something, just checking? !
Is Florian or Klaus playing a saxophone or what is it? Very nice version anyway.
