excellent!!!!!, love the analogies… just picked up art of piano playing by george after hearing Hal talk about the way the brain works… he's so very cool.
there is this way of playing way behind the beat that i think people go through a phase with, where they think its super hip and... sometimes it is, but its also a way of hiding bad time.
"Where's Ur Beat Center"??(I have seen this countless X's)Bebop F7 Scale Now",@ 5:16 Now (So Much Meat Of Power Comping)...& That Alto Player 🎷On That Learning Curve Alone...
Who could hear anything with that LOUD drummer? This is Musical discrimination. That large man on piano is a bully and his playing wasn't so good. You want JAZZ? . My money is on the black gentleman playing Sax (if they shut up the drummer and let him HEAR what's happening). The drummer was not worth a parking space. I reckon you bastards did that on purpose. Shame to you.
Don't know what you're talking about, the drummer kept the volume under control pretty well considering the acoustics of the room. I guess that anything louder than brushes would offend you.
That attitude will get you nowhere. Bully? He's helping beyond what you know. You criticise the drummer when if you had any experience at all you would know the acoustics of the room and the mic placement are at fault. You're missing the point of what's in front of you. That negativity will crush your creativity. Just saying.......... chill and enjoy the fruit these cats are serving us all.
I'm absolutely loving all of these Hal Galper master class videos... Thanks!!
"Cannonball's beat was so fat, you could put a beer, an ashtray and a TV on it. Nothing like it. So. Where's your beat center?"
If you put on the Closed Captions, it makes much more sense.
ahahaha
Hal is an excellent teacher!
Great instruction on rhythm and timing.

I sometimes go way behind the beat when I hear the drummer racing ahead of me and want him to slow down.
Wow, such a difference from only 10 minutes of instruction!
Yeah or maybe he was a lityle bit more relaxed After hal talked
Subtitles are amazing
Great Hal, as always. Thx!
really enjoyed this video. thank you
Absolute master player/teacher!

It's cool how you can hear it click on his last take
Great points
There is so much reverb its hard to discern anything he is saying
awesome : )
Where is this? That kinda looks like Jeff Johnson on bass...
That is I believe.
That sax player has definitely been transcribing baptiste herbin.
3:40
What's with all the empty seats....?!
I assume it's the microphone, but the drummer's ride cymbal totally ruins it for me. TOO LOUD!! TOO MUCH SUSTAINED SIZZLE!!
True but, there are EQ to put on
Horrible to understand the sound is too… bad acoustics in that room

I totally agree.

Deryck Trahair that large man on the piano has played with cannonball adderly, Chet baker, Michael brecker and Phil woods.
