  • A compilation of pictures in the mood of this sentimental song by Tim Hardin.
    Lyrics:
    What can I say, she's walking away
    From what we've seen
    What can I do, still loving you
    It's all a dream
    How can we hang on to a dream
    How can it ever be the way it seems
    What can I do, she's saying we're through
    With how it was
    What will I try, I still don't see why
    She says what she does
    How can we hang on to a dream
    How can it ever be the way it seems
    What can I say, she's walking away
    From what we've seen
    What can I do, still loving you
    It's all a dream
    How can we hang on to a dream
    How can it ever be the way it seems
    How can we hang on to a dream
    What can I say, she's walking away
    From what we've seen
    What can I do, still loving you
    It's all a dream
    How can we hang on to a dream
    How can it will it be the way it seems
    How can we hang on to a dream

    I still feel an anger at a life full of pain cut short by an early death. It's our loss, beautiful writer, beautiful songs, beautiful singer. This track is one of my all time favourites from the 60s, a time for many beautiful songs. Tim, thank you, you're never forgotten.

    • @eddieblack4568
      @eddieblack4568 8 лет назад +20

      +winemeister Let's get one thing straight, his life was not full of pain, Tim loved the shit out of life with a disarming smile a quick sense of humor, He was introduced to hard drugs in the service when Viet Nam was still only referred to as Laos, it was place and circumstance that got him hooked on drugs ,not sadness , not pain.It of course it did not help that he was for awhile Lenny Bruce's roommate in LA, .But he was a poet and as such very in touch with his feelings and wrote out loud what many felt but could not express-as beautifully as he did.Yes he left way to early, but left us with a veritable treasure trove of great songs.It pisses me off all this pain, and misery trailing his contribution as if he were a junkie who wrote two amazing songs and died.Tim' wrote many more songs and great songs recorded by, everyone, for this feeble sad ,lonely junkie image people latch onto which is not who he was , did he have problems with drugs?, he and at least half the musicians of that day had the same experience, you bet!! Timmy crammed a whole bunch of living and great music into his 39 years.You imagine pain when you think of him, I remember his quirky sense of humor and beguiling smile and a writer of mostly gentle , private personal songs that other singers knew full well and recorded them, have you any idea just how many artists have covered his song If I Were a Carpenter? thousands from Johnny Cash, to Leonard Nimoy, to Cher , to Birds actress Tippy Hedrin, to Ricky Nelson, Scott Walker of The Walker Brothers (The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore fame),the list goes on and on.A pain riddled junkie can't produce so many amazing songs ,covered by so many famous people, why, because stone cold junkies are not in touch with their feelings, and Tim's music was all feelings his heart on his sleeve,for all to see.I did an armature living room with an old tape recorder ,rocked up version of If I were a Carpenter,somehow his widow Susan got my e mail number and said she loved it, boy that blew me away, we have remained e mail friends.There is a book about Tim and a movie being shopped around as I write this.

    • @eddieblack4568
      @eddieblack4568 7 лет назад +3

      A painful life, that's your assumption,Tim actually enjoyed life was a cut up and loved to laugh,He encountered hard drugs in the army abroad and brought a liking for it back home and right into the drug infused 1960's music scene and I suppose being Lenny Bruce's room mate in LA, did not much help.

    • @joanneallard8118
      @joanneallard8118 7 лет назад +2

      Eddie Black actuator I was referring to how his catalog had a lot more depth and genius than most people know from just being exposed to a couple of 'hit songs' that seeped through to fame. I really have no idea what Smith's personal life was like (other than the well known facts of his addiction); all I know is that his writing was extraordinary (IMO)

    In the early 70's Tim was hanging in the UK. I saw him play a small college gig, I'm not even sure he was headlining (Jonathan Kelly ???). There weren't that many people there and I just wandered up to the front of the stage. I don't think I fully realised at the time that I was in the presence of genius. I'd like that evening back.

    I was searching through some 60s Dutch Pop (which was my own little protest back in the 60s when the Government told us that we could no longer listen to Radio Caroline, Radio London, Atlantic and other 'Pirate Stations'. Instead we were forced to listen to effing Radio One by the BBC. So my little protest was to find a Dutch 'Pirate' - Radio Veronica where they played loads of British, American and some European stuff. Most Dutch stuff was crap (to me) but a few groups stood out. Coincidentally, Brainbox copied 'Reason to Believe' and I have to say it is brilliant (as is their Album cleverly called Brainbox). Have a listen to it on RUclips. The album's also worth a listen. I'm now 70 but still regard myself as an everlasting South London Mod. Mick C.

      Radio Veronica was the best Pirate sender and wellknown all over Europe, It was devastated news to hear the government decided to pull the plug out of this popular sender. We listen to this semder almost day and night. So that was a immense loss for us not hearing this great music all day long. There were artists who became famous in those days like: The Golden Earrings, Hans Vermeulen & Anita Meyer, Robert Long, Kayak and many others. All Dutch bands and singers. But there are others I learned to love like: the Moody Blues, Cat Stevens etc. Nowadays we do have a music sender Sky. We also have the television music sender like Xite to watch music and video's. Last but not least we are able to watch RUclips for our fav. music from long ago.

    THIS IS MY FAVOURITE PIECE OF MUSIC OF ALL TIME. But only 5 years or so ago I allowed myself against my better judgement, to fall in love one last time with a greek goddess of unimaginable beauty while dancing Tango with her to this piece of music. It was for the short period of time that lasted the most powerful and enchanting love affair I have ever had. Sadly she decided to walk away just like the protagonist of this song.

    Voice is mellifluous.Words scream from heart.Music is akin to "moonlight sonata" in tenderness and treatment.Music is caged in these soulful words and sets the silhouette of a vulnerable lover who reels under many questions at a certain crossword of life and wishes to untangle it but lost .Music is piercing and unforgettable.
    Never heard a male voice so sweet ,so subdued and yet incredibly powerful despite vulnerability.Actually its strenghth lies hidden in this insecurity.

    In love sacrifice (letting go on a certain level) is the gift you offer the departed. As on an old cowboy once sang: happy trails (to you)!
