I was dabbling in Gold a few days ago, now I'm in Plat 1 and reckon I'll get diamond soon. All those fundamentals? Man, they eluded me. Macroing actually feels a lot less stressful now. Lots of cool tips that helped me a lot too. Like "take away and add to control group" being super duper useful, a dump key (I use ctrl+space to dump into grp0), making control groups out of eggs (!!! this one is HUGE I had no idea that's a thing lol), and also, I succesfully survived a BC rush. As soon as I saw the BC, queued queens on all hatches, 4 spores at the main where the BC was headed, and 2 spores at all other bases. Was really solid. Had a hitsquad of 6 queens to help me fend of the return with 3 BCs, losing 5 of those queens (3 to yamato) but then for the next return had corruptors and annihilated those BCs. I usually just panick when I see BCs. It went really smooth, you gave me the tools to deal with it :) Really appreciate the amount of matches, the repetition, it really helped me get those fundamentals ironed out which really helped me climb quickly. Can't wait to see what I'll learn in the next videos that are inevitably more advanced. Thanks pig!
Thanks for your coaching my friend. I've always struggled against Terran as Zerg and I unequivocally wrecked a Platinum 3 Terran player today. I was in the groove and muscle memory was working as you say, and I did it with just LingBane ! On his first push i was able to micro my banes to the front as you suggest and then go for the surround with the lings afterwards and was able to completely wipe his 27 marines and 5 siege tanks on his first push, and he was so invested he couldn't repel my counterattack that came less than 2 minutes later.
I have struggled with Terran Mech for so long... and just now with nothing but lings, bane & corrupts a turtle mech Terran just asked me "what I get out of smurfing" (ended up being a semi-amicable chat, told him to feel free to check my match history and that it was PiG's recent B2GM tutorial in action ect) While I'm still a bit shaky with this build and style, I've been having a lot more wins since watching this video and honestly ling play is just fun ;) (currently in plat) Thanks PiG!!!!
I just recently got into this game and am watching the shit out of your first Zerg Bronze to GM! Your guides are super helpful, and even more importantly, they are entertaining. Never stop doing this content, I was binge watching all your casts too for the last few weeks too. Always a pleasure hearing you ranting about Darks messed up builds.
Thank you so much man! Been a long time protoss player, but started playing zerg recently with a buddy. Your videos have helped us have so much more fun by removing all the guess work. I won my first couple games online ever with the skills you've generously shared. You're a gentlemen and a scholar! As a professional educator, I'm impressed by your ability to convey this information in an accessible and easily applicable way.
I haven't played starcraft2 in about 8 years and decided to come back to it.. Found your vids and its helping me get back into the fundamentals. Much appreciate it and glad there's still fresh content for this game.
Perfect timing Pig, just started 3 days ago, been following your old videos with some success so far. mostly been progressively playing Ai 1v1. Working on getting my zerg Macro firmly embedded in my brain. Also using camera location's and hotkeys for queen injections.
eyoo! Hope you're enjoying it mate. Definitely consider control grouping those injecting queens (something i touch on once or twice but don't do myself) as most players find that makes it much smoother. Scarlett's been nagging me to do this as she said it really helped her game but I've been a stubborn Sally so far lol
@@PiGCoaching yeah I add them to 5. Watched a video on it. I don't spacebar inject though, especially after adding macro hatches. I prefer using the saved camera hotkeys. Thanks for the reply. Watching your serral vs hero casting game right now. Pretty nuts!
Hey Pig, I just wanted to say thank you so much for the videos! I watched through the series and placed in Platinum 2 after applying the concepts. I'm so happy with how confident I feel behind the wheel playing on ladder.
Ty PiG! Haven't played in ages, and this video got me placed back in D3 with 150 apm and no units built that weren't a ling, bane, drone or queen while background listening. Way more fun to play than the roach hydra spam I've used before.
Definitely helpful for a primer into the game. I've played for a couple of weeks here and there over the years, but never long enough to have the multitude of keybindings engrained. I'm appreciating this level of detail and explanation. Cheers man 🤙 I'm having the hardest time defining-selecting-managing my groupings.
yo I'm new I'm playing for 1 month and I watched ur zerg b2gm up until episode 8 and now i see that u do update on it rn haha great timing for me and it helped me allot i get 100+ apm games in silver 2 right now, enjoying the grind so far.
26:44 - another reason to turn off "show alerts" is those alerts are clickable and will jump your camera all over the place if you accidentally click them and they take forever to fade away. I've lost a ton of games because I went to a-move a location and didn't notice the notification and clicked it sending my POV 3 screens away.
eyy welcome mate! Good luck have fun on the ladder! Keep in mind you're meant to lose your first bunch of games whilst it calibrates where you belong on the ladder
15:45 i use a Razor Naga mouse with 12 keys on my thumb which are numerical. its easier for me to not fat finger pressing wrong numbers above my left hand.
Hey man, you're such a cool and chill dude explaining all this in such detail. I'm just starting out and already killing almost all of my friends who don't put in the time to get good habits. Thank you so much for this series. Can't wait to continue watching this series. But one step at a time, guess it makes sense to first get this down solid before progressing since I'm still making tons of mistakes and forgetting stuff XD
I am just on the settings part, and didnt know that about the enhance pointer precision... that explains why my mouse feels so sluggish half the time whether for work or another game! I like fast moving mouse, but hate having to press the dpi button because then i cant see movements and it gets all jarbled. Disabling now feels so weird using the mouse lol but I am sure a couple days and I will be used to it, but so much prefer that off so thank you for teaching me something new about my computer that I won't just use in game but for work! side note, I use an 18 inch monitor, I hope to get a 24 inch at some point because I think that could be a good size.
I've only been playing a 2 days, and I'm glad you brought up bench-marking because I'm having a hard time gauging how I'm actually doing. I was doing alright day 1, but today has been full of chaos / cheese. I got rushed with a stealth flying unit super early on one game, and they kept shredding my economy and it completely ruined any chance I had at getting my macro practice in. Guy ended up having 40 APM to my 120 and I still felt completely outpaced because I kept having to restart. A few games before that I also got cannon-rushed before my 2nd base even popped, so same thing. When scenarios like that happen, I feel even more lost than I already am, and it makes it really hard to judge if I'm doing anything right at all. Edit: Add widowmine marine rush to that list.
Trial by fire! Sounds like a rough streak. Make sure you watch the replays and write a few dot points for each situation/new pressure you dealt with for you to follow next time you encounter it. SC has limitless tactics to screw with the opponent so slowly building experience with those situations will be really great. Make sure you hop in my Discord and share replays of any frustrating losses in the "Zerg Discussion" channel so we can help you out: discord.gg/SkhbzCM
Just been playing for over a week or so and this helped a bunch. Using another guys build order with ling hydras but my hotkeys have been a mess. Been using individual hotkeys for every hatchery and using my larva from one hatch at a time. Did some bot games and damn things slowed down when I could just get access to all the larva from one hot key haha
Not my first thanks and I assume not my last :) your enthusiasm and knowledge of the game is so addictive ! beside the fact that you are an incredible teacher
i love these bronze to gm as i learn more and more with different teams comps macros, im a zerg main myself, and i just gotten back to the game but i still like my slow but still fast enough as a silver for 150 apm
The most game changing scrolling method I found out recently is clicking in the mouse wheel. The camera will scroll no matter where your mouse is currently! It has saved me so much arm work over time. 🙂
yeah this is gaining popularity with a lot of the younger pros who use it mixed with edge scrolling now. I still only use it for casting or setting up camera locations in the earlygame, but that's just me being an old-dog that hasn't taken the time to learn to use it more often
The monitor size tip is huge. The single biggest improvement to my minimap awareness was getting a 27" monitor instead of the 13" laptop monitor I had been using. I thought I was just really bad at glancing at that corner often enough - nope, just needed a larger monitor to make the minimap larger.
Pig just want to say that I was watching your other Bronze to GM Series to learn the game again, super excited to see the latest series to unfold in real time!
In your 2021 zerg series I went from plat to diamond! Hard stuck plat for the looongest. Now here we go to diamond and above with your 2023 version! Thanks pig!
i recently forced myself to use camera locations and holy moly, it is such a gamechanger compared to home camera especially on zerg. the issue is: if you have 3 inject queens but 5 bases and lets say 4 macro hatches and all you use is homecamera, you always have to cycle through 9 hatcheries trying to find your queens while camera locations you always know where your queens are
bind your queens to your 3 to 4 main hatches and create shortcuts for each queen/hatch group. Only for injects. Then click through them. that way you will always have the queen bound to the right hatch. I also used the backspace method but that often lead to "wandering queens" when miss clicks happenend. Which facked everything up. My setup is [4] as the "all hatch" key and [5] to [8] for the queen/hatch injection groups.
Very nice coaching Pig thanks a lot ! My F1-F4 keys are wonky, I set up my camera locations 1-2-3 to Space bar, Shift-Space, and CTRL-Space. 3 locations is th emost I can deal with now anyway !
Pig, thanks so much for this! i understand playing in real 2k mmr migth be diffrent than the opponents ur getting so its super better for u to teach us with a good player!
Next episode will be gold league players and then plat the week after so we'll get to see vs all levels. The great thing about Starcraft is games are always very different based on how you and your opponent play. So none of these shows will ever show exactly what each person out there will experience on the ladder. The skills will carry over and easily blast you through these leagues if you apply them though :)
OMG this is a gift from god. I have seen every other version of b2gm from you and other casters. I really like yours. Please make a fresh one for terran! I am not sure of what opener to use anymore and the current meta with all the patches ( raven changes) Thank you for these guides. I still look at other races just to know a bit more about them NA D1 4000mmr terran trying to reach M3 4300 oh and thank you also for the tournament you are hosting and F*ck blizz for stopping giving money to sc2.
It´s a litle bit old, but to learn the Basics again it should work very well. To play Ling Bane will be a little bit more difficault after newest patch, but in bronze, silver and gold league it should work very fine. Like your friendly and respectfull manner, thank you for the help.
Ling/Bane is just the start. With the help of their mobilitiy plus Mutas you can reach map controle and then, drowning in gas and minerals you are able to mass the heavy stuff + Cracklings. Thats the brilliance of it. It's accelerating. While Roaches are more difficult to transition out of it.
damn, i remember you from the good ol days, now comming back to starcraft and you became an awesome teacher !!!! i would love to use the F's but my keyboard doesnt have F´s :(, so i only have 2 camera locations on my mouse, now learning zerg and have to use the other way xd
Can't wait for you to do a Terran. I'm new and was following the terran beginners bronze to gm and I was wondering if that series was still relevant from a year ago? Thanks, and I'll be looking forward to these other bronze to gm videos. They're pretty cool and help me to stay focused on what's important.
hey mate the 2021 b2gm series are all still relevant! i always say my videos from many years ago can still be used for most beginners to get into the game
Diamond player here. A few of these basic concepts I don't use and can say I brute force most of my wins through intense micro and by never giving up. I haven't played since 2020 so I'll be relearning the game again with these good habits and hope to hit masters this time around. My biggest struggle in diamond was the Terran bio ball.
Eyy glad to hear you're relearning some stuff from scratch. Ling-bane with heavy macro is a pretty damn good base for excelling in ZvT vs bio so I hope it helps!
Thisss isss so much funnnn I defeated gold by playing this style it's much easier I'm a beginner but my apm is a little higher 100-120 atleast and it's because of watching your videos nonstop for camera controls I'm free to play so I don't have rank but unlocked it by winning once a day and I have lots of success thank youuuu so much!!
Idk how I missed this. Couldn’t have come at a better time, currently using yours and vibes b2gm to make my way thru plat, and I must admit I was starting to get curious on how to use zerglings/banes and getting kinda sick of roach/hydra lol.
A thing I started doing was have the banelings on a group with the zerglings and in their own group so I could right click them around while a moving zerglings
Not a bad way of doing it, quite a few people like to do that. I tend to do a lot more control clicking manually on stuff since my army is often split up into different areas
PiG, you're the man, thanks for sharing so much info with us bronzers and slivers. There's one thing I want to understand better if I may ask. I see a lot of 16 drone 2nd hatchery rather than 17. Just curious what info you have on why you are sticking with 17 drone second hatchery?
Drone scout loses us a lot of minerals so the pool will be quite delayed. If you don't drone scout 16 hatchery is better because it lines up perfectly so you can build 2 queens at the exact same time
How do you get the build order overlay? I tried using the spawning pool tool. but havent been able to get it completely working where I dont need to tab out.
I haven't used that in years, but I'd imagine you just need to use SC2 in windowed or fullscreen mode in your graphics menu. Personally I've always been a fan of written notes by hand or google doc these days and memorising them between games or pausing if I need to vs AI to check the notes. If you can't get spawning tool working either of those will be a good way to get going
I remember using it for the backspace injection style. Then there was a time when we were using the wheel for massing infested terrans. Nomatter what, every button you don't have to search for on the keyboard first is a win.
This is absolutely AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!! I have learned taking extra bases because of THIS guide right the fuck here. I know to some it doesnt sound impressive but ive had a 30 minute slog against the very hard AI in a ZvZ and i think i had 6 expansions going on at all times. I dont think that mentality of expanding wouldve been embedded more deeply if i didnt get the fundamentals down thanks to you sir. It was THE very first time ive beaten it and i am immensly proud. Thank you Pig.
It's pretty hardcore nerdy setup that only works in in games that have super customisable hotkeys and modifiers (most games you can't use something like this). More info here: tl.net/forum/sc2-strategy/341878-thecore-advanced-keyboard-layout
Damn, I haven't played in 20 years. After watching this full guide, I got wrecked. I'm missing practice and muscle memory. When I say full guide I mean this first episode. I'm no where near this APM. I'm sure based on practice I can get there, what a rush.
It's really important to learn the muscle memory on most of your tasks so that you can basically always be watching the minimap. As build gets memorised you should constantly be glancing at the minimap. Even high level players will have far less minimap awareness if they aren't well practiced with a build - because they don't have muscle memory down yet and are having to watch and think about all their basic actions in their build instead of quickly glancing at them, executing, and moving onto the next task + glancing at the minimap in between.
Love this series, man. You have really helped my play. Just out of curiosity....when going against a toss who goes straight air, so you make transitions to counter? I just had a game where the Toss made 5-6 VR's when I noticed that I started massing queens. Would there be another response? Luckily I had so many lings it was just too overwhelming for them.
queens is a great initial response. Mass air will beat queens eventually, but queens and spores can keep you safe and often just basetrading with lingbane will win you the game. Technically though transitioning into spire as you get higher level, and even eventually spellcasters once you're very high level are effective counters
Thanks so much for the positive response gang! I've already noted some big things to prioritise covering in the next gold session: How to defend 1-base builds, proxies/12 pools (the fastest rushes possible) AND how to deal with pylon blocks/other obstructions disrupting our build.
According to uthermal, the counter to a proxy pylon is building a hatchery in their base.
Question, as a gold player how do I volunteer for this? If it's not too late.

Really appreciate the amount of matches, the repetition, it really helped me get those fundamentals ironed out which really helped me climb quickly.
NOICE
I have struggled with Terran Mech for so long... and just now with nothing but lings, bane & corrupts a turtle mech Terran just asked me "what I get out of smurfing" (ended up being a semi-amicable chat, told him to feel free to check my match history and that it was PiG's recent B2GM tutorial in action ect)
While I'm still a bit shaky with this build and style, I've been having a lot more wins since watching this video and honestly ling play is just fun ;) (currently in plat)
Thanks PiG!!!!
Thanks mate! Much appreciated
I'm only 19mins in to this video and I'm learning a lot! Thanks PiG for this enjoyable tutorial :D
Thanks Josh!
Big thank you to the community for taking part of this, and to PiG for the great lessons. Looking forward to my beating in the coming weeks
Soooo happy you made this man! You got me to diamond league 5+ years ago with your roach build and I've just returned to SC2. Can't wait to try this.
I haven't played starcraft2 in about 8 years and decided to come back to it.. Found your vids and its helping me get back into the fundamentals. Much appreciate it and glad there's still fresh content for this game.
Welcome back John. GL on the ladder mate
Yes! I just started playing again.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the series! Welcome to SC2
Ty PiG! Haven't played in ages, and this video got me placed back in D3 with 150 apm and no units built that weren't a ling, bane, drone or queen while background listening. Way more fun to play than the roach hydra spam I've used before.
eyyy! So happy to hear this style is feeling good mate
Definitely helpful for a primer into the game. I've played for a couple of weeks here and there over the years, but never long enough to have the multitude of keybindings engrained.
I'm appreciating this level of detail and explanation. Cheers man 🤙
I'm having the hardest time defining-selecting-managing my groupings.
Make sure you use the same keys for certain things every game and you'll get the hang of it real quick, gl on the ladder
Love your videos man, even as a non-ladder player this guide has helped a ton learning mechanics
yo I'm new I'm playing for 1 month and I watched ur zerg b2gm up until episode 8 and now i see that u do update on it rn haha great timing for me and it helped me allot i get 100+ apm games in silver 2 right now, enjoying the grind so far.
I didn't even realise that was a thing, definitely extra reason to turn it off then!
Love the new tutorial videos! I may have to start playing again. I’ve played SC2 for over twenty years but not recently….
Thank you very much for this!. This going to be a great series!!!.
Just what I was looking for, thank you so much
Amazing, amazing content. Just what I wanted coming into the game!
omg perfect timing i just started watching last week :)
I became interested is SC versus approximately a week ago and here you upload such a vid! I hope it'll help me a lot!
eyy welcome mate! Good luck have fun on the ladder! Keep in mind you're meant to lose your first bunch of games whilst it calibrates where you belong on the ladder
OH SNAPPPP!!!!!!!!! A 2023 version of my fav series?!?!?!?!? Yesssssss. Welp I guess it's time to get back at it! Thank you!!!
gl hf back on the ladder mate!
Thanks!
But one step at a time, guess it makes sense to first get this down solid before progressing since I'm still making tons of mistakes and forgetting stuff XD
inject, inject, inject! love it! brilliant! thanks for teaching!
This really helps new players like me just getting Into this game
You're amazing dude, I'm learning a lot from you, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Not my first thanks and I assume not my last :)
your enthusiasm and knowledge of the game is so addictive ! beside the fact that you are an incredible teacher
Thanks so much Tamir! Yep I'll do one episode a week of zerg, then Terran and onto Protoss lastly
Just finished watching the last zerg B2GM perfect timing
Thanks for the work man... ! I will try to go to GM with this one!
Just great to see this again. Been watching the terran b2gm from years ago. Will love to get back to sc2 while waiting for stormgate!
Heck yeah. Will have to do a B2GM for stormgate when that comes out too. Wonder how long it takes me to get to GM in the first place :P
i love these bronze to gm as i learn more and more with different teams comps macros, im a zerg main myself, and i just gotten back to the game but i still like my slow but still fast enough as a silver for 150 apm
Insane content. Very thorough.
The monitor size tip is huge. The single biggest improvement to my minimap awareness was getting a 27" monitor instead of the 13" laptop monitor I had been using. I thought I was just really bad at glancing at that corner often enough - nope, just needed a larger monitor to make the minimap larger.
haha the first time I saw someone playing on one of those tiny screens I was shocked, I couldn't make out anything on that minimap
Thanks for the videos, and lessons! Today I beat AI Hard the first time 😅 I may even be ready for human players soon
Pig just want to say that I was watching your other Bronze to GM Series to learn the game again, super excited to see the latest series to unfold in real time!
eyy thnx Tyler
Dude youre a comedian ❤😂 Thanks for this
Thanks PiG. Good show! I just saw this too late. I did my placement matches (lost all of them and bronze 2) before i found this :)
haha that's a good thing! Get to enjoy steadily working your way up. Gl hf mate
In your 2021 zerg series I went from plat to diamond! Hard stuck plat for the looongest.
Now here we go to diamond and above with your 2023 version! Thanks pig!
eyy hope the swap in styles helps you out mate!
thanks so mutch for this guide and all others :D
i recently forced myself to use camera locations and holy moly, it is such a gamechanger compared to home camera especially on zerg. the issue is: if you have 3 inject queens but 5 bases and lets say 4 macro hatches and all you use is homecamera, you always have to cycle through 9 hatcheries trying to find your queens while camera locations you always know where your queens are
bind your queens to your 3 to 4 main hatches and create shortcuts for each queen/hatch group.
3 camera hotkeys is 3 more than most of the playerbase, gl practicing!
I am not sure of what opener to use anymore and the current meta with all the patches ( raven changes)
Thank you for these guides. I still look at other races just to know a bit more about them
NA D1 4000mmr terran trying to reach M3 4300
oh and thank you also for the tournament you are hosting and F*ck blizz for stopping giving money to sc2.
Haha thnx Colin. WIll def do a new Terran then Protoss one after I wrap up the Zerg one :)
Thanks for the great clip. Im follow you from Thailand
Wow 2023 B2GM! Thanks and have fun smurfing for science ;D
Cheers Wayne
It´s a litle bit old, but to learn the Basics again it should work very well. To play Ling Bane will be a little bit more difficault after newest patch, but in bronze, silver and gold league it should work very fine. Like your friendly and respectfull manner, thank you for the help.
Ling/Bane is just the start. With the help of their mobilitiy plus Mutas you can reach map controle and then, drowning in gas and minerals you are able to mass the heavy stuff + Cracklings. Thats the brilliance of it. It's accelerating. While Roaches are more difficult to transition out of it.
@@Neo_Vandole Very Cool, the Transition is something i have train. I don´t match the right Moment too often. Thanks for the Input.
"Mah man!" I can't wait for the new Protoss B2GM!!
Yes, thanks for this series!
Omg, I am fucking elated to see this starting again! I’ll look for you when you get to diamond!
damn, i remember you from the good ol days, now comming back to starcraft and you became an awesome teacher !!!! i would love to use the F's but my keyboard doesnt have F´s :(, so i only have 2 camera locations on my mouse, now learning zerg and have to use the other way xd
It's at least relevant until diamond, same for vibes B2gm :) (haven't watched/reached above diamond yet so I can say for that)
Cracks me up, winter also lost his first couple zerg games in his low apm guide.
Thisss isss so much funnnn I defeated gold by playing this style it's much easier
I'm a beginner but my apm is a little higher 100-120 atleast and it's because of watching your videos nonstop for camera controls
I'm free to play so I don't have rank but unlocked it by winning once a day and I have lots of success thank youuuu so much!!
Thank you for the video!
What is your opinion/thoughts on using side buttons on the mouse as hot keys for buildings and army groups? I have 7 on my mouse.
I remember using it for the backspace injection style. Then there was a time when we were using the wheel for massing infested terrans.
Nomatter what, every button you don't have to search for on the keyboard first is a win.
Thx for the document
This is absolutely AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!
I have learned taking extra bases because of THIS guide right the fuck here.
I know to some it doesnt sound impressive but ive had a 30 minute slog against the very hard AI in a ZvZ and i think i had 6 expansions going on at all times.
I dont think that mentality of expanding wouldve been embedded more deeply if i didnt get the fundamentals down thanks to you sir.
It was THE very first time ive beaten it and i am immensly proud.
Thank you Pig.
eyyy massive congrats mate!
Thank you for the coaching. I'm curious about "The Core" hotkeys
I'm sure based on practice I can get there, what a rush.
cheeky perv is what i think when i get my base scouted lol
Oh. I didn't even know there was going to be a 2023 version of this.
Nice guides! I'm happyyour brother didnt change your settings again ;) gl hf
haha thanks mate
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! It's back! Thanks PiG!
One of the things I would like you to talk about is: when to look at the minimap? Do you look at it on every macro cycle? Every 15 seconds?
It's really important to learn the muscle memory on most of your tasks so that you can basically always be watching the minimap. As build gets memorised you should constantly be glancing at the minimap. Even high level players will have far less minimap awareness if they aren't well practiced with a build - because they don't have muscle memory down yet and are having to watch and think about all their basic actions in their build instead of quickly glancing at them, executing, and moving onto the next task + glancing at the minimap in between.
Love it can't wait for protoss again
@@PiGCoaching Thanks, man! Just getting back into SC I was platinum but I lost myself back to bronze. Your videos are helping me climb back up.
