    Love my ‘79 Boneville sedan with two tone red paint and bordello red crushed velour interior. 29,000 original miles with 350/350 engine and trans. Runs and drives like dream. Reminds me of my high school years-Moms would drop off their kids in these things. Back then I laughed at them and craved a Trans Am. Now this is the car for me. Super comfortable.

    1977 to 1981 bonneville had so many variations in interior and exterior choices that the model you could build was personal.
    Today any spud you want, virtually no personalization.

    Back in 1984 I was working at my dad's used car lot. He had 2 1980 Bonneville Brougham 4drs. on his lot. One was blue and one was maroon. Both had the 301 engine. Drove both of them. Absolutely beautiful driving cars. I wanted one so bad.

    When GM downsized the B body cars in 1977, the styling of the Pontiacs came out the best of all of them. The Bonneville Brougham was SO nice inside and out. The dash came out well and offered FULL instrumentation, which is a huge advantage compared to dummy lights. The velour seats they offered were beautiful. These cars were so nicely trimmed with chrome and were elegant looking. These were actually nicer looking than the Delta 88 or LeSabre, which were more expensive models. Because of the fuel economy standards imposed by the government and because of the expectation that the cost of fuel was going to increase in the 80s (which wound up not happening), Pontiac did not offer a full sized B body car in 1982 or 1983. They brought it back in 1984 - 1986, but it was renamed the Parisienne. The only unfortunate thing about these is in 1980 and 1981, the engines offered in these cars were too small for the weight of the car. They got good gas mileage but were underpowered.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 2 года назад

      That is mostly correct. The Parisienne was sold in the US for the 1983 model year, not just 1984 and up.

      @devinbiz 2 года назад +2

      Here in the United States, the Parisienne came in looking like a rebadged Chevy Caprice. Think they sold it here in the United States as such, maybe 2-3 years.

    • @OLDS98
      @OLDS98 2 года назад +2

      @@devinbiz It was a rebadged Caprice from 1982- 1984. That part is correct. It did not have Caprice seats because in the Parisienne Brougham in 1984 had Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale Brougham seats. They did bring back that 1980-1981 styling in 1985 and 1986. You can go look the car up here on You Tube you will see the styling that was still Caprice was the instrumentation panel and the front end styling with a Pontiac grille. In 1985 it changed to this 1980-1981 styling and those seats and the door panels returned. Before 1982, the Bonneville and Parisienne were the same car in two countries.

    My Mom had an '81 Bonneville Brougham 4 door with the V6 engine. It was the same exterior color as the Catalina in the video, but it had a dark blue landau roof, and a dark blue velour interior. It was definitely slow, but it got 24 MPG on the highway. Engines were available up to a 401 cubic inch V8, and they only had one gas tank size, 25 gallons. My Mom lived in San Diego, CA, and we lived in Cedar City, Utah, a distance of 500 miles. Driving back to San Diego, which was mostly downhill, she would still have 5 gallons left in the tank, filling up in Cedar City. The mileage was not as good driving the other way, since it was almost all uphill going from sea level to 6000 feet. Eventually she bought another car, and we got the Bonneville. It was still a comfortable car even though it had over 100,000 miles on it.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 2 года назад +2

      The 400 V8 was last used in a Bonneville in 1978, 1979 400 engines were for certain Firebird and Trans Am models only. You could not get a Pontiac 301 in a 1981 Bonneville, it would have been a 307 Oldsmobile engine VIN code "Y", RPO code "LV2". The only Pontiac V8 used in a full size Pontiac in 1981 was the 265 V8 two barrel, VIN code "S" engine.

    When did Pontiac’s Bonneville / Grand Ville become the Parisienne? I thought it was earlier than 1980.

    • @DejaView
      @DejaView 2 года назад +3

      I think it goes something like this though I haven't checked the specifics. With the 1982 introduction of FWD "downsized midsize" 6000, the "old" rear drive LeMans was given a facelift & perhaps a step up in luxury appointments & was re-named Bonneville G & the full size cars were dropped. Someone mentioned in a comment about more stringent fuel economy standards that never went into effect. As a result they wanted to bring back a full size Pontiac. Another commentor mentioned they wound up with the Caprice body with a minor facelift & re-badged as a Pontiac. I guess the name presented a new dilemma since they had used the Bonneville name on the mid-size car. Parisienne was the name long used on Canadian Pontiacs. Guess they figured that was the way to go. Canadian Pontiacs through the years looked like ours but under the skin were running almost entirely on Chevrolet running gear.
      I'll have to check mid '80s Canadian Pontiacs & see exactly what they were selling there. Never thought about it. Maybe the quickest solution was to bring the Canadian car here. (?) Guess I'll do some research...

      The Parisienne nameplate was always sold in Canada, it began being sold in the USA in 1983.
