It's possible to navigate the course without navigation in the watch, you just need to be more observant and read up on the course markings as they change a bit along the course. I've always used navigation on the watch as it removes some of the doubt of where I'm going. You are required to have a phone and that can be used to find your way too if you find yourself off course. Good luck! It will be a fun day and an awesome adventure.
