Thank you thank you thank you! I have been been self criticizing for many years, because I’m not one of those who wants to be with groups all the time. I get my regeneration from being alone in nature when backpacking long distances. As a 70 year old grandmother, I feel at time that I “should” be the kind of grandmother who’s there always to watch the children and give them sugar laden cookies, etc. etc. But no, I’m the grandmother who promotes a plant-based diet, and re-charges by herself on the trail. I love the children, but I don’t live for them. Mediation, yoga, weeks-months on the trail and a loving, understanding husband are how I make this work for me. I’ve found myself . Your monologue confirmed the rightness of this.

Yes! Very inspiring! “Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” “ The root of the word courage is ‘cor’- the Latin word for heart. In one of the earliest forms, the word courage meant ‘To speak one’s mind by telling all of one’s heart.’ “ Brene Brown.
Thank you for the beautiful podcast

Thank you for that one Rich.
This is not an excuse but an explanation,
of why some of us haven’t become our true selves yet.
For me, its the late start.
I always had a feeling i could do something with my life,
but it wasn’t until i was in my early 40’s that i found affirmation
on the internet through you and others like you.
Shortly after that i boosted my efforts and refined my goals.
    Here’s the problem.
You get acclimated to mediocrity over time.
You continue to try and continue to fail and it all becomes easier to accept.
    Repeated attempts create incremental change.
Your quality of life gets better.
Zero becomes more comfortable and failure becomes easier to accept.
This makes it very hard to change your paradigm.
    And without that,
    Traction is difficult,
    And escape velocity is impossible.
    Thanks again for the encouragement.
Even though some have yet to make it,
Some of us will never stop trying.

In 87 when i started my career in a new town i became increasingly paralyzed with fear. It grew over time as loneliness kicked up. Things happened to further polarize the fear. I thought my parents would help, thought my father would help play a role. He had tpsd issues that further exasperate his substance abuse. He excluded me from adventures that i had dreamt as a child that we would do together once my career was established. I guess im lucky in a way to have stewed in loneliness instead of also hitting the bottle like my father. i came close many times though, due to attachment in looked in new friends that went sour due to abuse physically and financially. 35 years later im really struggling to go out on my own, such as canoeing and camping, overcoming that extreme fear. My dog has helped a lot, she is now very senior. Im so thankful for my dog helping me escape this fear and unknowingly help expand my comfort zone. I wish i had someone i could have listened to back then to help. Its a lifelong fear that will follow me until the end, however this podcast has made a huge difference. Thank you!

I listened to this monologue twice and was absorbed by its beauty: the meaning, the style, the person behind all these. Amazing, and very inspiring!
Just recently we talked in a group about mindfulness, and people were saying that you can skip meditation sitting in stillness and do a mindful walk instead. But I was sure that to truly see the depth of the ocean you need to sit still and be present with the person who you are without any distractions even that is happening on a mindful walk (I don’t have anything against latter, just saying that I’m not seeing it as an equal substitute for a sitting mindfulness meditation where you’re swallowed by the stillness)

Totally understand what you are saying. I don't have to be sober for long before I remember why I started drinking to begin with. We don't use the word "addict" to describe the default position of our personality. But we are often addicted to how we were raised, and functional habits we've developed, even if we aren't actually ingesting a drug or drink.

Solidarity can be found standing in a crowd of thousands, i think we achieve that through what’s known in Zen/Secular Buddhism as “Walking Meditation”. Being here and now can be done in our greatest moments of pleasure, and pain. It certainly takes practice, like any skill, but I don’t think it’s out of reach for anyone.
Example: This has been one of the hardest weeks in certain aspects for myself, but staying present and sitting/walking with my pain, truly listening to my own pain and depression, allows me to focus on interacting with my pain in a loving and kind manner. I’m even able to have loving kind thoughts towards those that may be linked with my pain.

Made that first comment at the 2nd minute.... now I've gotten to the 17th minute (w/ multiple rewinds) & I'm like - "I was just given exactly that thing I needed to hear", & it allllways comes with that KNOWING that I already knew - my inner self was tilting her head saying, "I told you". The internalised Father, judgemental yet forgiving. I needed to hear it externally from a kindred soul that understood & reached back to lend a hand to others on the same path. You reflected that inner Father to me. Thank you for braving your journey.

Thanks, Rich. I needed to hear this reminder today. Even as somebody who's gone through a lot of changes, awakenings to new understandings of our existence, and locked in many healthy lifestyle behaviors...You simply cannot let your guard down on feeding your evolution. I've fallen into habits that I'm not happy about and constantly hear the voice telling me to change course, yet have trouble doing it. It's a tough journey at times continuing to change, but there's no way around it. Once you break out of the matrix, you can't go back. I think the key is to have that "sub program" downloaded into our mind that we CAN change and we MUST change to avoid the restlessness, unfulfillment, and disease that staying stuck in our patterns will continuously poison us with✌🌱🧝‍♂

Rich- way beyond excellent here. love the podcast and these monologues are so appreciated. from the place that allowed you to share with us, vulnerability, to the apprehension, to the discovery to understanding and action. i could actually feel my gut react as you broke down the experience and overview of failure. you've hit on the proper amount of retrospection, right before paralyzing guilt appears and extinguishes the necessary flames of action. a few weeks back on one of your podcasts, you mentioned mood follows action. i've internalized that since hearing it, yet i've recognized little benefit from it. this monologue lays out the why. thank you Rich.
