In my view Daryl Hall is the most underrated vocalist in pop history. Such a deep catalog of great songs and great vocal performances. Thanks for this one.
How can he be underrated if they are best selling duo of all time?
@@scottlaughlin9897 A valid point...
@@scottlaughlin9897 Exactly, he's not underrated at all.
*underappreciated
@@scottlaughlin9897 I don't think people know what being underrated means anymore I think they judge by RUclips views not by actual industry accolades because it gets no bigger than Hall & Oates
So many good Hall and Oates greats. Often described as blue eyed soul. “I can’t go for that” is a classic. Private Eyes is a cool pop vibe too.
Agreed 👍🏿
Michael McDonald is one of them too.
Oates is the low voice, Hall is the higher one and leads most of their songs.
Hall , is the one -that has a name that denotes a corridor in a building ...Oats is the one that has a name that could be another word for porridge , hope that clears it all up
They grew up listening to Motown and the "Philidelphia sound", with the additional horns and backing vocals, and they wrote their own music, didn't let producers or record execs step on their compositions, they knew they could create lightning in a bottle over and over and deliver hit after hit.
They were Temptations fans ,& once had a group with a similar name . They also appeared live with ex Temptations David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks . Very talented duo .
Well they couldn't maintain commercial success. So while they still have a kind of cult following, they couldn't keep up the hype
Hall has the high voice, Oates is low. They did a remake of The Righteous Brothers YOU'VE LOST THAT LOVING FEELING and it perfectly showcases their voices the best. You should react to that video next by HALL and Oates.
There's a long version of this song that really shows off their musicianship as well.
Wish they had done the longer album cut.
I was wondering if anyone noticed that
You could literally have a Hall and Oates week due to the volume of hits these guys have cranked out during their career.
Check out "Sara Smile", one of the coolest songs ever.
You guys really really need to dive into these guys and you will see who they are....if your rugged, let them say it for you. They were deeply into the Philly Sound.
Daryl is the tenor, and Oates is the baritone (lower). As the band went forward, Hall was heard more and more prominently.
You have to check out the "Live at Daryl's House" videos... he started as a web show - inviting all kinds of artists to his home in NY to do a jam of both Hall&Oates songs and the guest's songs... with Daryl's great band. it became a syndicated show in the early 2010's and I think he stopped around 2014.
Awesome pairings - archive type stuff!
Live from Daryl's House is probably some of the best jam sessions you'll see. Daryl Hall is a musical genius.
"Out of Touch." You gotta hear it. Best 80's vibe ever.
Being born in '63 and having grown up in the '70's this song encapsulates that time period especially from a city/suburban perspective for that genre of music! Great y'all!
I'm hopeful that Brad will be able to understand the lyrical content of this one.
Chance would be a fine thing
Brad & Lex, their "Kiss On My List" and "Sara Smile" are next for you!! Daryl Hall of the left is the lead singer and can go high!
I agree with Sara Smile
I don't believe in perfection, but there are maybe a dozen songs I think are so close to perfection that I can't tell the difference. Sarah Smile is one of those songs.
Hall and Oats were fabulous show man, singers writers and producers. They were a vibe. My type of musicians.
Damn this brings back memories!! My parents played H&O when I was growing up. One of my favorite bands. So many great hits!
I love this song! It’s one of Hall and Oates early hits from the seventies! They ruled the eighties with hit after city! Darryl Hall (the blonde) leads most of their hits but their voices blend so well on this song! ❤️❤️
I am a metal head but Hall&Oates always one of my fav bands
Blue-eyed soul strikes again! Great reaction guys :)
#ruggedbrad
The beginning of this song is really fantastic.
They do a killer version of The Riightous Brothers song, "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", in which John Oats has lead vocals. Daryll Hall does the majority of leads.
Danette , Daryl Hall , is the one -that has a name that denotes a corridor in a building ...John Oats is the one that has a name that could be another word for porridge , hope that clears it all up
Man lots of Hall and Oates great tunes out there. Sara Smile, Kiss on My List, Rich Girl, Private Eyes, Maneater…
Darrel hall has flat out have some soul for sure
The long version of this song even makes it that much better.
"There's one less toothbrush in the holder" That's a line that speaks right to guys, the one thing that every dude knows about having a woman in your home that we all know it's the space they take up around our bathroom sink lol. A clean vanity is a sure sign that there is no woman around....
This song brings me back to being a kid driving around with my dad in his old truck.
I enjoy having a big bowl of Hall & Oates with blueberries for breakfast every morning.
Daryl Hall be hittin' those high notes
Who cannot love Lex's smile? She is such a delight to watch and listen to...
One of the best from Hall & Oates.
Daryl Hall wrote this song about when his wife left him and John Oates was stood up for a New Year's eve date.
My favorite H&O song. Has that old school Motown sound.
They have many cool hits!
Private eyes is a must!
Check out a band “Cry of Love” pretty much any song - Peace pipe, Bad thing, highway jones etc…
This is my very favorite Hall & Oates song!
Darryl Hall is the tall blonde slim one...John Oates is the deeper voice dark hair one. Darryl did most of the lead singing...an amazing voice. Definitely showcased on "Sara Smile". Yes there is a definite Hall & Oates vibe...it`s "Smooth blue-eyed soul". And, Brad it`s cool to be "rough around the edges"...but, there`s no shame in letting some of this nice slow smooth music break down that "tough wall" you put up. Enjoy the music, smile...and when a cool nice song like "She`s Gone" or "Sara Smile"...or Steve Perry`s "Foolish Heart" comes on, it`s cool to reach over and give Lex a hug. You will still be a tough guy...but, with a warm heart. :) Steve Perry-"Foolish Heart" give it a try.
Ain't nothing as smooth as the Philly sound.
Brad is the guy that everyone wants as a friend and who leans toward the intellectual side.... thinking about everything.
Soul,Groovy, smooth
If you can't feel this song in your soul, then you might be dead.
Hall and Oats love R&B.
I dont know why "Las Vegas turnaround "by H&O wasn't a radio hit and it was hardly even heard back then...but it was a fan fav when we played it in the clubs...one of their best tunes...in my opinion
I bet brad like hall and Oates, when he hears more of their songs he will eventually like them
Breaks my heart, she's gone, lost her
You want a great Hall and Oats song? "Everything your heart desires" is an ABSOLUTE MUST REACTION!!! You won't be disappointed.
Their best song... I Can't Go for That.
Another great one from Hall & Oats.
Lex is like bacon. It goes without saying you love it! But man Brad is growing on me! Best duo on RUclips
This is a shortened version of the song. There is a regular longer version on RUclips.
Good old Philly boys, also checkout The Temptones - Girl I love you, which was the very first song Hall wrote at the age of 18.
There was something really special about that late 1970s early '80s Soft Rock sound
This is soul.
@@AtillaGenghisHuyter Bilky Bananas your right I always use to hear this song when i was a kid on the Lite Stations and the R&B stations like Micheal McDonald' too either soul or Soft Rock great song
They were so good. You could check out Sara Smile next. Also, you could go down the rabbit hole and search "Live at Daryl's House" tons of videos of Daryl Hall inviting other famous artists to jam at his home studio. They play some of their songs together, and some Hall&Oats songs together...awesome stuff. There are some really great covers of Sara Smile out there too. Check out the Teddy Swims, Richie Kotzen, and Monte Montgomery versions.
Jesus. I love that song. I never knew it was fucking Hall and Oates.
I forgot to mention that the two ladies in the Danish Symphony Orchestra are famous, one is a Opera singer and the other lady can make incredible sounds with her mouth. Any questions you may have, I more than likely can provide you the answer. By the way, that Danish Orchestra performed the Soundtrack to "FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE". PEACE OUT
Hahahahahaha! I never thought of myself being called a "Hall & Oates type of guy" considering I'm also a "Rush kind of guy" first and foremost! :p But I love these two and saw them in concert with my girlfriend a couple years ago. They still sound good!
I follow your music reactions as well as your plight or journey of 14 or 15 months since launching your RUclips channel. I found that 90% of host on RUclips channels doesn't do any research of the artist or music videos they react to, and find themselves dumbfounded with questions about visuals you might see in a video.
Example: You guys reacted to THE DANISH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, "THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY" and didn't understand why there was an image of a man hanging from the rafters of the concert hall. The GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY starring CLINT EASTWOOD was the movie and the Soundtrack was " ECSTASY OF GOLD". The hanging man was part of the theme of the movie and the
SILHOUETTE in the far background was an image of CLINT EASTWOOD.
There were three westerns (called a Trilogy) made in
SPAIN and were called SPAGHETTI WESTERNS. "A FIST FULL OF DOLLARS", FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE", and "THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY. Claimed to be the best westerns ever made. Brad and Lex I think you will love each one of them. But you should watch them in the aforementioned order.
I am 74 years old living in Tampa, Florida and I am a lover of all music, although I'm partial to music of the 60's, 70's and 80's. By the way I'll go out on limb and guess you guys live in Dunedin, Florida near Clearwater.
I would like to recommend your reaction to TOM BROWNE- "FUNKIN FOR JAMAICA" Official Video and the song is referring to JAMAICA, Queens, New York.
The second Artist is EARTH WIND AND FIRE - "SEPTEMBER", "BOOGIE WONDERLAND" and "LET'S GROOVE". Select their official videos.
They are all classics from the 70's and 80's. I've been a bit long winded so please forgive me if I offended you guys. Love your reactions and I do wish you'll well in your future endeavors. Peace out
one of my favs
You really need to listen to to the longer version of this tune, this one is missing quite a brilliant chunk!
DUDE you are a MAJOR DRAG
Lots of great songs by Hall & Oates.
Check out You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling…great cover of The Righteous Brothers classic👍🏼
These boys are badass 🤘
Ur girl is a flower......YOU my friend are a rock...STIFF
Blue-eyed soul!!!
Tenderloin
"To late for romance"
If you haven't experienced LIVE AT DARYLS HOUSE. On YT. You are in for some eargasm level live music
Hall is the higher voice and Oates is the lower one. They’ve written many fantastic songs. They are also excellent in concert.
Oates is the low voice, Hall is the higher voice. Oates is the dark haired guy with the mustache & Hall is the blonde.
They have a lot of good songs. This one and Sarah Smile are their best IMO. There are maybe a dozen songs that are so close to perfection that you might almost as well call them perfect. Sarah Smile is one of those songs.
This version fades out too quick, the real version is probably 30 seconds longer.
This is the radio edit. There's a longer intro, more lyrics AND the longer outro. That version is about 2 minutes longer and better.
This is one of their best imo! ✌❤
Thery were brilliant song writers but didn't really gain popularity until the mid 70's early 80's. They wrote a ton of hits. They even wrote the tune "Everytime you go away" that was made popular when paul young recorded it.
Soory, Darryn Hall, the blond is the high voice. His mother was a voice teacher and had him singing scales at age five.
Unfortunately this version has been edited heavily to the point of butchering this beautiful song. I recommend that you check out the full version.
I must say, I enjoy watching your reactions. Sorry if I am a little inappropriate but I must: Lex is a perfect mix of beautiful and cute. Brad, I am straight but you're not bad yourself.. A great couple. Lex is very spunky and upbeat and Brad, more pensive. A great combo. Thanks for the entertainment
So many great songs my favorite is probably Sara Smile
That is what they call blue eye soul..
Out of left field but about a break up but a very underated and beautiful song by Adam Ant called Wonderful
You gotta do some Cee Lo Green “Live at Darryls House”
You gotta do Hall and Oates - Rich Girl...
Daryl Hall has the higher voice, He's the one who sang the lead in Sara Smile. He's the blond.
the sound of philadelphia
You really should have listened to the album version ("Abandoned Luncheonette"). A couple minutes longer.
Blue eyed soul
Hall. The blonde was the high voice
oates is short black curly haired lower voice.
Y'all really need to react to Live at Daryl's House. Some of the greatest artists come play at Daryl's house. I suggest you start with C Lo Green at Daryl's.
I like Rob Thomas in Darryl's House doing this one.
Watch Daryl's House. Shows you how good a singer and musician he really is.
Should watch the T.V. show "Daryl's house " excellent show.
One on one is a good Hall & Oates song. Also try some thing are better left unsaid from live from Daryls house. The best.
Love it !
Muy probablemente sería ésta la que dijese si me preguntaran por una canción que los definiese o los representara. Pero tienen otras muy buenas como: "Lilly (Are You Happy)", "Do What You Want, Be What You Are", "Room To Breathe", "Open All Night", por citar sólo unas pocas.
I really hope you two don’t experience a break up.It’s painful.
So what group or song represents Brad? First thing that came to mind was Thin Lizzy, The Boys are Back in Town?
Lol I like the record scratch
Eddie Van Halen approached Daryl about replacing David Lee Roth
Hall & Oates, bless their hearts, were always waaaay too...saccharine for me. Compared to other singer/songwriters. Marc Benno Gordon Lightfoot Jackson Brown Steve Goodman John Prine etc
Hey I heard you guys say on the live that you had a copy of the Wall. You need to watch it and let us know what you think of it. You can even react to each song as you Watch it
Damn. That was a short weird version. Check out the live 1976 version.
.
You need to check out Live from Daryl's house.
Deep cut
