crazy how they have brand new instruments and everything is so nice, but the conductor can't afford a conducting baton?

Firstly, Festival Winds is an event that hosts young musicians like concert band members to participate. However, the event does not supply participants with their instruments apart from percussionists. Thus, participants either own their instruments or rented it from their bands or ensembles. Secondly, a conductor’s baton is not required to conduct an ensemble although many conductors have one. Just because this particular conductor is not using a baton does not mean that he or the event hosts cannot afford a baton.
