@Kek The Hero I think NB Studios is being too hard on himself. I can see the inspiration in the character design as far as sihlouettes go. But with that hair style, the beard, and mask resembling more of Robin and The Incredibles than the Tick? I don't see how Face Beast looks like The Tick.
@@DemonicRemption To be honest I completely agree, originally I was just making a joke about how The Tick and Crimson Chin look a lot alike but now that I rewatch this I don’t understand how he thought that was a ripoff of The Tick.
One of the many things I love about the animated series, is Chairface Chippendale's plot to deface the moon. Other shows of the time would have stopped the villain before he could implement his plan and maintained the status quo. Here the "Cha" on the moon could be seen for the rest of the shows' run. Also there was no way Chairface could fit his whole name, using that font.
@missingsig Why is it likely that joke was unintended? That doesn't make any sense, they wrote for him to not finish etching his name- saying it was an animation oversight doesn't make any sense
Mother destiny calls to me, she says hello by the way. I am the Sterling silver ladle of justice pouring it's foamy cream over the just picked strawberries of crime. Ty for the useless info. SPOOOOON!
What I like about the version from 2016, is that it appears that his origin story in that one may be that he didn't even exist until his existence was necessary for Arthur plot armor. That is my favorite interpretation of his origin. He wasn't born. He wasn't an ordinary guy who gained powers. He doesn't have a past. He simply, is, because it's necessary for him to be.
in the picture at 1:24 Ben Edlund is wearing a Venture Bros shirt! He wrote and directed season 2's Viva los Muertos, the only episode of the Venture Bros not written and directed by the showrunners, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick. Jackson Publick actually got his start in TV writing working on the Tick cartoon.
great fun fact: Part of the creation team, involved with the 90s FOX cartoon, the creators of the Venture Bros were involved! A lot of the niche humor comes from them
Yeah and then they worked on the first live action show (at least one of them did, I think not the other), which is where they learned about Patrick Warburton and the rest is history. Edlund wrote only one episode of VB but he is on such the same wavelengths as Doc and Jackson that you can't even tell there was anything different. You would swear he wrote the whole show.
@@leowu988 I haven't even watched the flash since halfway through season 4. It got boring and I was tired of the formula for every season being the same; flash is fastest man, oops looks like he's not now, he loses someone close to him, oh and now he's being framed, he begins either escape or behins taking out the lower bad guys again, then he kills the other fast guy or villain and reassumes role as fastest man.
i just finished the amazon series, and while the show itself was good Im now absolutely obsessed with the Tick as a character. In my opinion the actor who played him was amazing at playing the role, although I guess if you were a fan of the other versions I can't really speak in that aspect as I never seen anything else yet. I'm so dissapointed they cancelled season 3, I really wanted to find out if Walter had to do with the creation of the Tick.
Peter Sillyfannywaist is an incredible actor who can just disappear into roles, you would never think he was some of the guys he was. Brian Butterfield playing the Tick is like Mr. Mom playing Batman. Didn't think it'd work, but it did. And I like that they gave Townsend Coleman a cameo role.
We do need more people talking about The Tick. I was really starting to love the live action series. DangerBoat and Lobstercules live rent free in my head and I don't plan on evicting them any time soon!
ehhhh... having rewatched the entire franchise recently, I gotta call it the weakest of the 3 series. I'm not some prude bitching about Fox's mandate to sexify it up (though the show's staff sure didn't like being told to do that), but overall it just felt crude. Like, not fully formed. It needed more time, I think, and it ended on a REAL sour note of a goofy equal rights for women superheroes episode. Totally undermines Captain Liberty's whole thing if there actually is a genuine moustache-twirling patriarchy keeping her down. Batmanuel was amazing, Arthur was the weak link. I think he was going for kind of an Alan Arkin thing, but it came off more like Alan Alda. Like it's okay dude, I mix those up a lot too. But you're approximately Rick Moranis and you gotta stay in that lane.
Without the Tick the Venture Bros wouldn’t exist as Jackson Publick one of the creators worked on both the animated and 2001 version of the Tick and he was introduced to his co creator Doc Hammer by Ben Edlund.
I think I used to game with Ben... I loved The Tick from the get go, and I had the original comics. Until a "friend" stole them and sold them to Bop City Comics. Ah well.
I love how the Amazon series did for superhero films what the original comic did for comic books. Just ripping it a new one. Such a tragedy we got no more of it. Facebeast is kind of amazing. I want to see his adventures.
I hope we get a new Tick, a cartoon one preferably. And hopefully after the Amazon series Ben Edlund's done experimenting with edgy Tick and we can actually focus on the comedy
The Tick & Mystery Men is how it would be in real life. It wouldn't be so clean and perfect, people would have real issues with their powers and personal life.
Haven’t seen it, but Warburton is brilliant in everything he’s done. I’m a Brit and I was surprised to see Serafinowicz in the role, but I think he did a great job.
Yeah, it was a solid beat em up, if a bit long though. Honestly don't know what this guy was smoking, "everybody hated the videogame" bunch of bologna.
One of my favorite lines in the Amazon version which spoiler alert one of the villains who is a twist villain and he’s model logging and then the tech yells would you stop villainsplaining
The Amazon shows is almost doing it realistic and acceptable but one thing is wrong: Tick's eyes and retina are never supposed to be visible, they're supposed to look like he's blind. Can't they do CGI that hides the eyes?
I don't remember which episode of the 90s animated show had it, but one of the best lines I've ever heard: Tick: "If you guys are selling insurance we don't want any." Man in suit: "No, Tick. We're with the government." Tick: "Well, no thanks. We've got all the government we need." Even truer today than when it was originally written.
I don't think any live action adaptation can come even close to replicating the visual style of the comics or animations. Like the Tick himself is a big giant doofus of a man, a caricature. How do you make white dudes with exceedingly average proportions pull off _that_ costume design?
I was so bummed that Zombieland didn't get picked up from Amazon Pilot season. I loved the movie and it made more sense as a TV show. Though I also voted for Tick and thought it was great.

To be fair The Tick is literally just The Roach from the Cerebus comics.
I'm here after the blue beetle,
They need to learn from the tick and patrick warburton
The Tick reason for being a hero is just "I'm indestructible and strong so why not fight crime"
Better than saying, "Why not commit crime?".
