So I'm watching this WAAAAY after this first aired....& now I know why I've just LOVED watching him skate. I love his self awareness, his honesty, & his love of life. NO pretensions. & the whole business of being in the next to last flight of skaters at the Lillehammer games, then bowing to the audience at the beginning of the warmup - totally class act & acknowledgement of, well this isn't what we expected, but here we are. I miss him.
What fun! Kurt has always been my favorite guy skater -- emphasis on 'always.' (... since the glory days of skating.) Among other programs, his "Singing in the Rain" will never be forgotten! What a wonderful competitive and professional career, with so much joy brought to so many. . Nice to hear him up close and personal like this. Kudos for you, Dave. -- another interesting, enjoyable interview.
Apparently he was working on a quad axel as well back in the day, he said he talked with Yuzu about it a few weeks ago, sort of comparing notes about their experience with the jump.
Janel normally, I would roll my eyes over a skater suggesting this (like when Tom Z takes a video in a harness), but Kurt training a quad axel seems very possible.
Ya, he admitted he never landed it, the rotation time in the air felt so long, he would pull out too early...that extra half rotation obviously makes a huge difference.
Ooh, another star skater! I don't know how you do it, but keep doing what you're doing! Kurt Browning is one of the big names in figure skating, and not one I knew too much about. I really appreciate the work you do in getting these incredible athletes to sit down and talk about skating and their lives and what they think about the current situation. Thank you so much!
Great to hear from Kurt again. Been missing his skating lately..a guy who is always himself and a great ambassador for the sport. Never takes himself tooooo seriously and always goes with his honest reactions. I can't believe that you were able to keep a straight face and managed to ask your planned questions! That was an act of concentration. Well done Dave.
Thank you! Kurt had so much to say. It would be great if you could have him on again, he must have more fascinating stories up his sleeve, which you can uncover, Dave!
Aww.. This was a lovely time for me. I had a lot of fun watching this. I remember watching Hanyu Yuzuru's Sochi SP with Kurt Browning's commentary and I learned to appreciate the sport so much from his explanations. He explained the back-counter 3A so well that even the layperson can understand. Thank you so much. You really made my day, TSL!!! :D :D :D Thank you, Kurt Browning!
That was an incredibly brilliant interview! Thank you so much! It's definitely a gift how you can get your interviewees to open up and give more than the usual sound bits. Obviously, also much thanks to Kurt for being so open and allowing us these incredible insights!
That was enlightening. I remember watching skating from early 90's on as a teen. Now, it'd be interesting to hear the lengthier explanations of the rules, at least sometimes. Thanks!
Loved it! Love Kurt! A highlight for me was seeing that Casablanca program in Ottawa '93! Kurt's book is awesome, too. I think it was called "Forcing the Edge" . Lots of tea spilled there in the same organic manner as this interview.
Great interview! Kurt always had some of the most entertaining professional programs. And holy footwork! Brings me back to the golden age of skating. Killing it with content! We need to get more skaters from that era. Bring back Ice Wars. Let Katarina Witt show all the young ones how Carmen is done! (Please please please interview Katarina Witt!)
Kurt is the absolute best and what a great interview, Dave! He really embodies what the 90s for us was all about, “Well, I just showed up and skated. Things happened, but oh wellsies.”
Excellent piece again. It may be you but figure skaters seem so much more open to discussing the bad as well as the good. I get so tired of the empty Interviews you see tennis players give. Also tsl has influenced my reading choices especially the john curry tome. Costly but so informative. Thanks
Loved this so much!!!! I was the hardcore Brian fan and disliked Kurt so much in competitions but outside when just shows loved him. I would love for you guys to do an recap with him for some competitions.
Great interview. Didn’t know he was only skater to win world gold in both compulsory and non-comp eras. Impressive to be world’s best on both sides of the figures’ watershed.
Loved it, thank you Dave, and I have to agree on the footwork. I would rather watch Kurt or Paul Wylie or Scott Hamilton's footwork than an IJS level 4 with people turning themselves inside out.
I don't know why, but for some reason I thought the interview would be a bit boring for me, even though I know you never have boring interviews.. I was SO WRONG! The interview is great! I obviously didn't know that Kurt had so much charisma and personality!! He is so cool and so much fun. Please invite him to review some events if possible. I grew up in one of the ex-soviet countries. We didn't have so much figure skating coverage. Now I want to watch some Professional competitions from the past. I feel that I've missed a lot. :) Thank you again! You are the best!
I loved this interview. I walked out on Brick House when I saw it live. It is one of my all time most loathed show programs of all time. Beaten by the Plushenko muscle suit horror. And I have had to see them both live multiple times. HIs Casablanca program and singing inthe rain made up for it. But Birck house still appears in my nightmares.
Half the fun of World Pros was going back to the hotel bar afterwards. Many of the skaters were there and there was always good gossip to be had. The year they made World Pros a pro-am ruined it.

I love that Singing in the Rain routine so much! Amazing.
Kurt did a double axel in hockey skates. That's metal af.
He also did a quad salchow on one of his first tries!

Janel Absolutely!
Thank you for this great interview!!! The episode around Lillehammer made me cry... I am a figureskating fan since Lillehammer :)
Me too

This interview is absolutely fantastic! I enjoy all of them but this one is on another level.
Dustin Muniz so glad you enjoy it!
Ooh, another star skater!

You're very welcome! So glad you enjoyed the interview!
What a fantastic interview! Wow! Kurt is so charismatic!
He is such a great guest!
I've watched a lot from his professional years, and now i really want to binge watch his amateur performances. Great interview, Dave.
The binge will be so worth it!
Fantastic interview! Have always loved Kurt's skating both when he was competing and touring with Stars on Ice.
Clair Peterson thank you!

Such a
wonderful personality and a man of great character. Always a pleasure to see and listen to him!!! Much RESPECT, Kurt Browning!
Could listen to you and Kurt talk shop all day. Thank you for posting this. xo.
I loved his brick house routine. I wished he won the 1994 Olympics. He had two great skating routines.
I agree!

Thank you! Kurt had so much to say. It would be great if you could have him on again, he must have more fascinating stories up his sleeve, which you can uncover, Dave!
Thank you so much, Dave for this interview! Kurt is such an amazing person! He is so candid and kind!

Kasvini Muniandy you’re so welcome!
This was awesome! I remember watching Kurt’s Dancing in the Rain in like a real movie set. He is such an entertainer.
Thank you and Kurt for this interview. It is so refreshing and positive and brings back such wonderful memories of that era in skating.
What an awesome interview. I enjoyed every minute of this!
Great interview. It's good to hear skaters talk about their experiences and see things from their perspective.
Thank you so much for this! Love his skating and commentary. Definitely one of my top favorite people in skating.
sparkl121 you’re welcome!

So glad you enjoyed it. You're very welcome. And thank you for the kind words!
Thank you Dave. This interview was awesome. We need a part 2 as there is so much more to talk with him about!
Kitty Slinxalott he is welcome back any time!
Kurt is an extremely artistic skater. Much more so than the others. He makes it fun to watch ice skating. I love his Singing in the Rain skit.
This is amazing! Thank you for posting this!
You're very welcome :)
Such great insights and energy from Kurt, excellent interview Dave! Ugh, the days of school figures
You always do such an amazing job! Thanks for everything

Laurie Vuitton so jealous that you got to see Casablanca live!
Thank you, Dave! Kurt (and Viktor) were among my favorites! This was delightful. :)
Meghann Pytka you’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic! Have always loved him. Now to go watch a ton of his programs- it has been awhile
Definitely a worthy rabbit hole to go down!

Stephanie Senerchia
Such a great interview. It's interesting how different his mindset really was compared to how it was portrayed on American tv.

Kurt is the absolute best and what a great interview, Dave! He really embodies what the 90s for us was all about, “Well, I just showed up and skated. Things happened, but oh wellsies.”
Jennifer Gulbrandsen it only we could all be more like that!
Well, he says that now, but I remember he cried in interviews at the 1984 Olympics
WHAT A TREAT!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! And it's an hour long interview!!! YAY!! I can forget about stress and work and enjoy this! Thank you DAVE!
Kasvini Muniandy hope you enjoyed it!
Wow! I’m excited for this!
I hope you enjoy the interview!
great interview :) Too young to have known him as a skater, so it was really interesting to learn his journey!
So glad you enjoyed it!

Peter Davies I apologize for your thinning wallet, but I applaud you for your excellent taste!
when I hear the young and the restless theme song I know that it’s about to go down
Kurt is fantastic! I hope you enjoy the interview :)
TheSkatingLesson loved it!! Great work as always!
Captain Claire I don’t think it has even been up for an hour! Isn’t the video longer than an hour?! Glad you enjoyed it!
TheSkatingLesson I’ve finished now! Could be another hour if it wasn’t for that pesky son!! Haha jk
Children ruin everything!
Great interview. Love to see Kurt and remember those great times.
He was such a great guest. Glad you enjoyed it!
What a fantastic interview! Nice job Dave--thank you!
You're very welcome!
Loved this so much!!!! I was the hardcore Brian fan and disliked Kurt so much in competitions but outside when just shows loved him. I would love for you guys to do an recap with him for some competitions.
Mario MADDOG I was a huge Boitano fan and had to come around to Browning beating him. It took .02 seconds because of that charisma.
This was great, Dave!
Great interview. Didn’t know he was only skater to win world gold in both compulsory and non-comp eras. Impressive to be world’s best on both sides of the figures’ watershed.
One of my all time favorite skaters! Thank you
Mine too!
Kurt Browning does not need to jump. Jumps are spectacular, but Kurt can DANCE!
My favorite of his routines was Singing in the Rain.
Favorite!!!
If this guy did NO JUMPS, he’d still be the best and most interesting skater out there...the best ❤️❤️❤️
Amazing content amazing skater amazing interviewer. ABC, NBC, CBS, Eurosport should hire you, you’re better than anyone out there Dave!
I know ;) Thank you! :)
Love getting to hear one of the greats story tell 👍👍
Sean L
Imagine Kurt Browning scoring on you in ice hockey. That’s awesome.
Kurt is the man!!!! Love him... Legendary!
stpark22
Awesome interview!!
Alejandra Vasquez thank you!
Loved it, thank you Dave, and I have to agree on the footwork. I would rather watch Kurt or Paul Wylie or Scott Hamilton's footwork than an IJS level 4 with people turning themselves inside out.
Linda Allison I love footwork that flies across the ice.

that you for sharing!
I have always had such a crush on Kurt as a skater... :-)
I’d love more interviews like this! It’d be so cool if you could interview Yuka Sato, Surya Bonaly or, my hero, Robin Cousins.
DSQueenie we interviewed Yuka!
TheSkatingLesson I had no idea! I’ll have to look it up. x

My Thanksgiving week is made
Happy Thanksgiving!
I loved this interview. I walked out on Brick House when I saw it live. It is one of my all time most loathed show programs of all time. Beaten by the Plushenko muscle suit horror. This does not surprise me at all.
Different strokes I guess. I always loved Brick House and all his other programs too
Aaaaaaw! A shoutout to Victor and Galina!
Love Kurt.
Why am I just now watching this?
Just started- can’t wait to listen!
TheSkatingLesson, loved it! Great questions. You ask the questions hard core skating fans want to know.
Love him! You know who reminds me of him in terms of style? Keegan Messing.
Colette Robichaud I get Scott Hamilton vibes from Keegan.
@@TheSkatingLesson yes!
I miss the figures discipline of FS. I bet Kurt's figure skills are awesome!
thank you, thank you, thank you!
You're welcome, you're welcome, you're welcome!
Jealous that you have an invitation to text and gossip about figure skating with this legend!
Ha. I think he was being nice :)
Half the fun of World Pros was going back to the hotel bar afterwards. Many of the skaters were there and there was always good gossip to be had. The year they made World Pros a pro-am ruined it.
I am still resentful that that actually happened. You'll have to email us about the bar scene.
Best skater ever. No question. No need to @ me.
