    This is a great point to check on yourself and also your partner. “Step back” and “let’s get forward” builds great teamwork.

    Wow. I just started and I played with some more advanced players yesterday and this is exactly why I was getting jammed up by there. Thank you!

    This is so true. Where I play almost everyone makes the mistake of serving and then standing too close to the baseline, However, I am curious to know why many pros serve and stand on the baseline.

      You can take the ball on the rise effectively it it takes practice and is a riskier option. But you can take time away from your opponents by doing so.

    • @randallkadish5663

      @@ldeue4837 But what if the ball bounces just before the line? Are the pros comfortable with backing up, and then taking the ball on the rise?

      @@randallkadish5663 yup that's probably the play, I play more tennis than pickleball...but I'd say your two best options are cutting a deep ball back with a low slice(with pb it's going to have to be a shot that barely gets over the net) or like you said getting back as far as you can and taking the ball on the rise.

    You addressed 1 of the 2 methods of addressing being too far forward at the completion of your serve. The first one is to realize that you are too far forward on service completion and then step back, as your video showed. I would call this the post step serve correction. The second is the pre calculated step serve. In the second serve, you start farther back, so that your momentum brings you to the spot that you want to hit your return of serve from.

      Good and important obvious tip. However I'm not positive that as the returner hitting a deep return always gives me more time to the NVZ line. I think hitting a very short return gives me the same or more time because the receiver of my return has to run up to reach it, and that might take more time than ball flight.
      It would be interesting to prove this with speed tests.

    • @BetterPickleball

      Hi Jay, a deep return alone doesn't necessarily give the more time to get to the NVZ. ruclips.net/video/_42ff_pnscM/видео.html

    • @jaywalshon811
      @jaywalshon811 3 года назад

      @@BetterPickleball That's what I was saying in reply to CJ's comment that a deep return gives the returner more time to get to the NVZ. Hitting a short return often results in the serving team popping up the 3rd shot.
      The down side to a short return is bringing the serving team to the NVZ line which is not where you want them to be.
      But CJ's point about stepping into the court when serving and finding yourself leaning backwards on the 3rd shot is spot on - and is a VERY common "leak" in one's game.
      Thanks CJ

      @@jaywalshon811 With all things being equal a ball that travel the greatest distance will take the longest. My money would be on a high deep cross court lob taking the most time before your your opponent can hit the ball.

    • @jaywalshon811
      @jaywalshon811 3 года назад

      @@dalevoigt8612 Agreed IF it is a high cross court lob. However many if not most returns by intermediate players are not that - and many even drive their returns giving themselves little time to get to the NVZ line.
      Many are even caught staying back at the baseline after hitting that services return - but that is a topic for another day.
