If you want to catch anything decent out of modderfontein you need to fish from around stand 11 onwards. All the stands before that are all the babies. Caught a 3.5kg on stand 12, garlic on the 1 hook and pink sweets on the other. Can't recall what I used on the bomb. This was also done just over a year ago so you never know
Hi Mike. That walk from your vehicle to the bank is bad lol. Awesome venue but gets too crazy over weekends. They say no alcohol but ppl come with it n make noise n you dnt enjoy your fishing.
According to the research that has been published in scientific journals and texts, carp can see in colour and probably have an ability to see colour in much the same way that we do. In fact, carp like many fishes have well developed colour vision.
yes you are correct Mike, colourful baits or rather the contrast between them in the water are appealimg to the fish. the more colourful it is, the more it stands out and gets noticed..
A lot of specimen guys believe pink is the best color to fish carp...I'm not so sure because they don't have any pink natural food..but pink is very visible. But scientifically carp have a better color spectrum than we have cuz they see UV light. If water is very murky then other senses work harder than their eye sight.
Modderfontein is overfished now due to the amount of anglers that they've allowed over the last year or 2. Previously, when this online booking was not in place, we would be catching the first fish within 10 mins, we caught soooo many fish that we actually took the rods out justso that we could eat. We've caught fish on every bait from plain worms without bom, plain feed, just floaties, plain white bread etc. There's really no need for dips, big bom and all the other fancy stuff, a hook and small baits are all you need to have fun here. If you want bigger fish, you have to cast into the river bed which is about 80 or so metres out. Largest I've got here was a 3.5 carp and 6 kg barbel. There is also a variety of carp here - common, mirror, fantail, koi and ghost carp and you can get fish anywhere from 10 metres. @whatwecatching.360, that is a fantail that you caught. They fight much harder than commons.
Also, for barbel, fish at the spots closest to the reeds which should be spot 1 or so. Use fish head (I bought tilapia and used that). Worms and the other insect baits work as well as day old chicks. Oddly the big ones have even come out on floaties as wel

Modderfontein is not a fishing venue but more of a catching venue… you could just throw in a hook and you will catch …
I believe that nobody really knows, I believe they see
different shades.
