  • A Steely Dan cover of the Ike and Tina Turner song, I Idolise You; performed during a Two Against Nature soundcheck in the late 1990s. General amplification to the guitar and piano tracks, a more prominent bassline and greater treble on the drums. Each track was separated by AI separation beforehand.

Steely Dan makes my miserable life seem like a beautiful dream.

Is anyone getting a "Riders on the storm'' vibe here ? Bass line plus that Wurly piano are the culprits. Great stuff.

Plus the ride cymbal gives that "rain" feel.

I haven't heard Steely Dan perform this song before. Thanks for sharing. I'm always happy when new Steely Dan content pops up in my suggestions! Incidentally, I think the voice needs to come forward a bit more in this mix.

Until now, the only other version I've heard of this was the much rawer one by Ike and Tina, which I also liked. I think Tina was quite young then and the recording quality was of that time and place. Thanks for posting this great arrangement.

You have become my go to for quality takes of the lesser known Dan catalog. Great work! Thanks!

Sooo good to hear material that comes to light years after it's recorded. Nice balance. Good job!

Can you imagine if 2VN sounded more like this mix instead of what it was. This sounds amazing, no quantization, no sampling, live, minimally processed. Why didn't they do the whole record like this?

I can't stand the way the 2000s stuff sounds. I guess trying to keep up with the state of the art protools/in the box recording and editing that everyone else was up to. too bad, because that approach sucked the life out of their particular sound. comes across as chintzy.
