Had a 5hp craftsman worked great gave it to my son when he moved so I bought a compact 24 about 5yrs ago awesome little machine built very solid and preforms very well
I want an Ariens 24 Rapidtrak, but my "new" 30 year old Ariens 28 won't die. Finally changed the friction disc after wrestling it the last few years. But even at its best, I have to lift on the handles to stop it from floating up. Despite the nice results on my biceps, I'd like to be able to dig down with tracks when I need to, but hate how slow other track machines are. Thanks!
Have you tried a weight kit for the front of the machine? That may keep it from walking up. I put weights (available from Ariens) on my Deluxe 28 and they helped. The machine still walks up in certain situations but not as badly as before.
I just bought one! can't wait to try it out. PS you're supposed to initially change the oil after one month because of the break in period. There's going to be a lot of metal shavings in the oil from break in and you don't want that circulating in the oil for 3 years since it can cause damage.
It's nice that that machine has the shoot crank behind the control panel. I've seen some Ariens machines that have the crank in front of the control panel that looks like it would be awkward to reach over to crank.
I had the Compact 24” for a about 8 years. For the last 3 years it didn’t really cut it up here in Boston. The problem in my estimation was the small cc. If the snow was even slightly wet, the machine was next to useless as it would only throw it a couple feet. I just bought the 30” Platinum SHO with the 414cc and heated grips. I think I’m ready to kick winter’s ass!
That sounds just like my Ariens 24 ". Mine use to run like yours, always looping and missing. Try about 2 oz. of Sea Foam in you gas tank and some better gas, I hope that fixes that problem of running funny.
Powerline Ride Make sure you use sometype of ethanol treatment in your gasoline or trufuel. If the motor sits in the off season the ethanol will cause problems to the motor, especially carburetor.
That helps, but ethanol eats seals. Hopefully you don't live in a communist state and you can find ethanol free gas somewhere. Sometimes the high octane is ethanol free in some places.
I have the exact same Blower. Don't forget to also spray the shoot. Another great tip I saw on RUclips. Take the wheels off before they seize (and they will) and buy a can of Anti-Sieze lube. I had my blower for about 3 years and had to put WD40 on them just to get the wheels off. Then put on the Anti Seize and now spins off like a charm.
About the wheels, I have the same unit and those axle shafts run on bronze bearings, which are porous (meaning they will soak up thinner oils and keep on going). I use turbine oil (Kenmore, if you can still find it), and spins like a champ! Of course, the auger has old fashioned grease fittings like on cars! Git 'er done!
You might want to check the oil? If it hasn't been changed in three years you may have water in engine. If oil is grey, for sure you have water in engine. As mentioned earlier, oil should be changed before every season along with spark plug.
You don't need a new plug every year. You can check the plug gap if you feel the need. Plugs last a long time in 4 stroke engines. I ran with the same plug in my lawn mower for 30 years. Never had to gap it.
@Don love it got great torque to throw the snow. I'm going to guesstimate 15 to 20 ft from where I want it to control by the shoot Everything is right at your hands as far as controls, great little machine. I'm glad I bought it. I would recommend this for anybody. He wants an easy maneuverable machine. I have a little ramp on the back of my Jeep and I actually take it down to my neighbors and do their driveway with it fits perfect locks right in there
If you aim the chute higher it will throw the snow faster and farther, allowing the machine to work better and not bog down. I have the older Ariens(Aaron's) with the Tecumseh Snow King engine and it's a work horse. That's a nice machine. What motor does it come with?
Smoke Stack it's a 9hp 209cc, it was a blizzard that day when I aimed it up all of it blew around, I only included clips where there was no snow on the camera.
Have the exact mower and does that also even though I lowered just slightly above the shoes. Like about 2 quarter coins in height. No big deal as then I just push it off with a shovel.
My Snow Joe electric snow blower ain't blow chit and it killing me when 12 inches blizzard on 1- 22 - 2018. I need a 2 stages gas power. Anyone know the good one? I found Snowtek 24in 2 stages at Homedepot for $645 and Powersmart 24in 2 stages for $549.Any recommendation?
Snowtek is Ariens low end brand to compete with bargain blowers. It might be better than similar blowers, but they do tend to be a bit cheaper built and more stripped down. I don't recommend Husqvarna because their blowers are made by a third party and are pretty cheaply made. If you're really tight on funds, I'd try to find somebody desperate to sell one in the spring, then you can low ball them. ;) Otherwise, I like the orange Ariens. Of the two you mentioned, I would take the Sno Tek even at$100 more. I just pulled up pix of similar ones and the gearbox and augers looked much stronger on the Sno Tek. Ariens also has a pretty decent anti-freeze chute rotating design and they tend to have descent motors. The tricky thing is every year every brand has some changes, so year to year quality varies a little with all brands.
It depends on the years, but often, with Ariens, Deluxe gets you a differential(now it seems to be the "autoturn") instead of just wheels pinned on a solid axle, sometimes other things like better tires. To add to the other comment, the early model (80s/90s?) Compacts were _really_ compact and had only a 10" impeller. I think some years it could affect having a remote chute deflector or not, but I think new Compacts have remote chutes. I dunno about the chute height thing, tho. I do know they experimented with chute height and angles a lot over the years. According to at least one salesman I talked to, one of their reasons is they wanted it to be able to throw snow on top of 10' and 12' snowbanks like they get in the Great Lakes areas.
mines sounds the same and backfires when i brind engine speed down to quickly, if i don’t bring the revs down when turning it off. it does a huge backfire
30 years ago I bought a 10-28 Ariens. I'm still using that same Ariens 10-28 and this is the first I've heard about warming it up. We get a lot of heavy snow at 4100. Finally changed the friction disc as the first mechanical issue. I need to step up to a Rapidtrak because I'm now a skinny 70 year old, and I'm tired of having to lift on the handles on slopes to keep it from floating. Other than that, my 10-28 has been a reliable beast.
I'm between the Compact and Deluxe 24" I hear it bogging down. For $100 more, I believe the Deluxe is worth it, but bigger and takes more space for storage. However, Delux has more power 12.5 lb ft.
Change your oil every seanson it's not good for the engine it's like a lawn mower you change the oil every year your just buy a ego or kobolt snowblower less mantince

thanks! the dealer did the break in period for us so the oil was new when we got it.
You can use Pam or other non stick cooking spray, way cheaper than the snow repellent and does the same thing.
Was just gonna say that ! Just picked up a 1976 Ariens, original owner. Can't wait for winter
I let my machines warm up at half throttle for 5 or so minutes before using them in the cold. They seem less temperamental.
Bingo!!!
I wish I could with this one but the choke and throttle are all in one my old one the throttle and choke were two separate controls

I freed up my whole walk and driveway area here in NH.. A couple years ago the snow was over the tops of the handles and she got it done..

It's only been used 2-3 times a season for less than an hour each time, I wouldn't change it as much as the lawn mower.
A Bosch copper spark plug will give more power though it might make it harder to start. This is a trade off that I always take.

Great video. I'm pretty sure I'l get the Compact 24. Glad you don't need a drivers license to operate it.
ahaha
You'd probably be happier with the Ariens Deluxe 24.
So is that the 208cc?
If you want to get fancy, you can order the "deluxe" cleanout tool which also has a brush on it. ;)
You need to install the impeller kit to get the most out of it.
Don't waste your time with the sprays!
Get it serviced every once in a while there are lots of moving parts that need greased and lubed

The new 2018 model comes with a 223cc engine but anything before 2018 (his model because he said it's a couple years old) has a 208cc engine.
Pam cooking spray of spray silicone will do the same thing, whichever is cheaper.
Just got one today. Did you ever put a sled in the back and ride it? 😉 its worth it
I have the same blower and it keeps riding up to n the snow i constantly have to reverse and go forward I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
Ariens machines are balanced this way to make sure the auto steer works properly.

man..keep thinking about this. like the size but want the bigger/stronger engine...like in the deluxe 28 incher. hmm.
It seems to run good in first gear, not second with that heavy snow.
better to go slow with heavy wet snow thats very high
The housing of the snowblower
Wow, snow right up to the garage door. You need to install an overhang.
theres a 2 foot overhang, the wind blows lol
adjust choke to make it run smooth..
Original oil still in it, well ur gonna have problems later down the road, first oil change should be when u been using it for 5 hours or less
its not the original oil, we did change it once or twice

What is the differences between the Compact 24 and the Deluxe 24 Athens?
the height of the tunnel i believe
Deluxe 24 has 252cc, 14” impeller and auger, while compact has 12” impeller/ auger and 223cc
It depends on the years, but often, with Ariens, Deluxe gets you a differential(now it seems to be the "autoturn") instead of just wheels pinned on a solid axle, sometimes other things like better tires. Your motor is not running right, could be old gas, or water in tank or dirt. , 208 are a really good motor. Use seafoam in ball your gas motors,
Scoop Yall it's probably the GoPro in the waterproof case, but I do need to change the oil. The gas was brand new 89.
