  • During his 1971 winter engagement in Las Vegas, Elvis ended his shows with "The Impossible Dream" instead of "Can't Help Falling In Love" - which had been his closing number in 1969-1970, and would be again from mid-1971 until the end in 1977.
Here is an audience recording of a rare performance by Elvis of "Can't Help Falling In Love" during that 1971 Vegas engagement with the song being performed very early in the set. It was the third song of the show, actually, coming after "I Got a Woman"!
Unfortunately the sound quality is not very good as it is an audience recording, but we are lucky to have it recorded nonetheless! It's a bit strange hearing him perform it this way, isn't it?

he did it to tease the fans pretending he was on for only 3 songs. he had kind of an attitude in that las vegas season. mostly because he was already getting bored and he was starting to do the bad stuff it started to really affect him in may of that year along with other ailments and growing frustration with his manager and knowing the priscilla was running around. 1971 was a hard year for him he got heavy into the uppers till early 1972 when priscilla left him and then he started his downhill slide with the downer addiction. 1971 wasnt all bad he recorded some great music and had great physical performances which were enhanced due to the uppers like the boston garden concert he was jacked up but great performance none the less lol

+Peter M This is very rare because it's the third song of the show. Not the last song. During this engagement of 1971, he ended his concerts with "The Impossible Dream".
