Many thanks Karen He’s a lucky man and what an incredible find. We were back out at the field today with the hoard detector but the ground is frozen solid 🥶 but we got two deep targets less than 10m from the bull find spot and we’ll be back to dig them once it’s thawed! Fingers crossed 🤞
As an American, I get so jealous at the amazing finds that I see detectorists in Europe dig up. When we find things from the 17th, 18th, or 19th centuries we are amazed. It reminds me of a saying I heard that goes, Do you know the biggest differences between Europeans and Americans? Europeans think 320 Kilometers is a long distance, and Americans think 200 years is a long time. Such a beautiful piece of Scottish history going where it belongs to be enjoyed for many years.
I agree that as a person in the US it’s so exciting to see the really old things you’ve managed to pull up from the ground. As a major history buff the older the better I say. Keep it up I always wish the best for you.
Hi Guys...I watched Albert's moment of discovery and knew it would rock the archaeological world! ... By coincidence I was in a PAS training session on La Tene period zoomorphic art last week. The speaker began by giving examples of 'bulls' in early Iron Age art culture; So I tried to post a comment about your find, but someone else beat me to it... When a photo of the bull was shared, everyone (pretty much all of England's FLO's and senior archaeologists) appeared awestruck...An expletif was issued... and then the speaker declared Albert's find potentially the best example of a La Tene period bull ever discovered in the UK! Well done Albert and what a good friend you are John. It was epic to share the moment a find of potential International importance was made...and for me, to experience the reaction of our leading archaeologists when they first saw it!
Many thanks Scottish redneck What a find, the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen found in 23 years of detecting. It is pre-Roman ie before 43AD then it’s going to be one of only a handful of Celtic ‘Scottish’ Iron Age finds from Scotland of such high quality and preservation. It’s an internationally significant find. We were out on the field yesterday with the hoard detector and got two deep signals within ten metres of the find spot!!! Problem is the ground if frozen solid like concrete 😢…. Roll on the milder weather!!! Can’t wait 😛

Such a wonderful find - love the wee Tesco container and the loo roll used to transport it 👌 Really appreciating your integrity as detectorists, means that we all become richer through the sharing and recording of your finds. Mo mhìle taing dhuibh 🙌🏻

Looks better each time I see it. Thanks for taking us along with you to the museum. It's interesting to see how the finds experts look at things. Looking forward to seeing the hoard hunter in action. Keep going.
Many thanks Stephen. Desperate to get out again but at the minute the grounds frozen 🥶 rock solid. Went out with the hoard hunter on Albert’s field and we marked two signals within ten metres of the bull head find 🤩 fingers crossed 🤞
Wonderful follow-up! I appreciate how you manage to shoot videos that are full of great content whist at the same time keeping things relatively private and anonymous. The full experience of speaking to the experts at the museum was cleverly captured by keeping the camera focused entirely on the finds and the process of investigation with the experts. Gives a real world taste of the process, thank you! The find is indeed amazing in its quality of construction and preservation. Good to know that it will eventually be available to the public to enjoy if it is confirmed as treasure, which I’m sure it will be given its beauty. Thank you for bringing us all along on this journey! ❤
Thanks for the kind words and I’m glad you enjoyed. As far as I know that’s the first time ever that anyone has been able to film that handover so I’m very grateful I was allowed and conscious I agreed not to film them so hence the video wasn’t as good as it could be but just glad I captured it! I’ll keep you updated on any news!
Unbelievable utterly staggering. I’m since told half an hour after we left and the various doctors and professors got to see it in the flesh they erupted 🤩 😱 it’s of staggering importance
I'm so happy for Albert! I can't wait to hear the rest of this story! This was an amazing find and I'm sure it's time for John to find his hoard! I just hope we will be along for that journey also.
Still amazed by that fantastic find, absolutely stunning!!! Brilliant quality and craftsmanship!!! Appreciate you sharing the museums response John. Thank you

@@thescottishdetectorist Frozen ground! Good Lord man. With these kinds of finds I would be out there with a generator and warehouse blower heater making that ground cough up the treasure.
That is just incredible - I am so glad YT recommended this in my feed. You must have been floored to see that come up. The detail and preservation - it is simply stunning!

It’s incredible isn’t it! Possibly as early as 200bc 🤩 Well give me a shout some time if you fancy a day detecting on the fields of Perthshire! We’ve got a few amazing fields but they’ll start planting them about March! So times a ticking!!

Thanks for taking us along for the museum trip, very interesting insight into a part of metal detecting that we hear about but don't get to see. Your channel is growing rapidly and it's content like this that you have to thank for it, well done John you deserve it.

We were just there again, in April, at the museum. When I was looking at those hoards, I remember thinking to myself, "I wonder if John will get something in here someday?!" It's a real kick in the pants to my dream that the fledgling, Albert, beat you to it! 😄Congratulations to Albert and to you for getting to experience this find. It speaks so highly of your characters that you submitted it. I'm sure many would be tempted to keep that for themselves. If ever the owners of the medieval fort property wondered whether they had an upstanding detectorist, this is all the proof they'll ever need. As always, thanks for sharing, and I'll be waiting for the next lie down.
Brilliant John what a great video Albert must be so proud to find such an awsome treasure in Scotland i hope that if it is displayed in a museum that your names are also written so it will be known forever that it was found by Detectorists

Thanks for taking us along with you to the museum for their evaluation of your finds and the beautiful bull’s head. And the review of the museum’s collections. You should take a look at the Wiltshire bucket mentioned if you haven’t already done so. Very ornate. A thrilling find for Albert and the Scottish Detectorists. It will be remembered for a long time to come. Alongside the possible pilgrim route finds, you’ve all had a great few weeks. :^) Here’s to more great finds in 2023.

It's is a truly amazing stunning object. There are only about thirty example's known in England. Nothing north of hull. If it is a continental import. It could be of international importance. I will share video with my friends who can lease with the museum. Congratulations to you and Albert. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure. And thanks for the tour of the museum. Many thanks. Any info most welcome. I love it, it’s incredible and if it’s pre 43AD it’s arguably one of the best preserved and most amazing Celtic ‘Scottish’ Iron Age finds ever made. It’s incredibly exciting

What a great insight into the process of determining whether finds are important. All finds are important, but some are more important than others. As someone who at school wanted to be an archaeologist, this is great stuff. Well done in pushing certain finds forward so the experts didn't miss their potential importance.

I respect detectorists who help the science community by sharing important finds. It is important to place the items in context with the landscape. A lot of people would have just pocketed that artifact and tried to sell it on the grey market. Job well done!
Great stuff buddy. Really good news. Terrific having all your pieces looked at. I've been reading about your mate Albert's gold find. A very lucky man indeed. Bless up 👊

What a find, the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen found in 23 years of detecting.

It's a real kick in the pants to my dream that the fledgling, Albert, beat you to it! 😄Congratulations to Albert and to you for getting to experience this find. It speaks so highly of your characters that you submitted it. I'm sure many would be tempted to keep that for themselves. As always, thanks for sharing, and I'll be waiting for the next lie down.

@@thescottishdetectorist absolutely amazing. Just love the detail on it. To hold something that old after all that time in the ground must be awesome. I'd try send you some Cyprus sun but we don't have much at the mo lol. Happy digging!
Just fabulous John!! What a collection! Congrats again to Albert on a find that truly will be hard to beat!!!! Wonderful follow up video Sir!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Yay! I'm still so excited for you guys, and I'm glad you're keeping us updated about this glorious find! I can't wait to hear more about it, once the museum people have analysed it further. But it's already an absolute treasure!
Also, thanks for filming some of the awesome things in that museum. I love ancient history, and getting a glimpse of what's displayed there in Scotland is awesome. ☺
Many thanks! And thanks for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed
We’ve got two signals at depth within ten metres of the bull 🐮 with the hoard hunting detector but the grounds frozen. We’ve marked them and can’t wait to go back 🤩
If you’re ever here our museum def has some beautiful gems and treasures!
Glad I found the update to the bulls head Thank you so much for taking us along on this journey
Many thanks Angela and I’m glad you enjoyed. I’ll update when I know more!
Best wishes
John
