Just wanted to say it was awesome to see you today Dave, been watching since my last year of elementary school and now I’m headed towards my social work degree so it was very surreal to meet you. My partner mentioned it was lovely speaking with your wife and as I said it was awesome to get to speak with you! Looking forward to watching your content for many years to come, hope I catch you on the showroom floor again tomorrow! Glad that I could prove you wrong about thinking nobody would recognize you ;) Who wouldn’t recognize one half of the grandfathers of the D&D RUclipsr community!
I bought the PDF just for that. The advice is great. Also, you get basically the whole character section for free online, so onboarding friends is cheap. I just wish the name was better lol
I'll have to check it out. I'm basically index carding the hell out of 5e as a dm, so this sounds like a different game to try that would fit my usual materials/supplies.
I ran it yesterday, as the first game I GM-ed ever (I play D&D 5e as a player, but it looks too complex for me to run). I messed up a lot of stuff anyway, but it was fun. I'm not sure if character creation is really THAT much simpler than in 5e though (perhaps I just got used to 5e 🤔)
I'm not against the design, I'm just saying all I saw was a 400 page item that is a mess and could be organized so much better, and likely less than 400 pages if they stuck to just make it a book without all the goofy sized type fonts. I mean, come on, you call it Index Card and then make it 400 pages? It looks like a comic book and is as thick as the OSRIC manual. The game wants to be 5 settings all at once. They need to make a choice to be either brief and concise, or admit the name is partly a con. There is nothing streamlined here. Whitebox is streamlined. Basic Fantasy is streamlined. I've seen great designs that are 'streamlined'. Polyhedral Dungeon is what I think of when I think of streamlined. A complete game in 40 pages. Every design is trying to be great at something. But this one stumbled whereas Shadowdark is soaring. My only thing about Shadowdark is 80 bucks is 80 bucks. It's more game though, and in less than 400 pages.
I've read similar comments to this on other ICRPG videos. It sounds like this disorganization is more a result of this edition. To my understanding, the master edition has a bunch of ideas crammed together from other source books. I have, and have seen others recommend, ICRPG Core 2nd Ed. It seems pretty well done to me. And it sounds like it is better edited than the master edition.
It's organized like Hankerin's mind, which is quite disorganized. It speaks to a certain kind of person, and I'm one of those people, but I can certainly see why it's not for everyone. I'd love to see him publish the baseline rules and character creation options as a card set, which would be easy to do.

I haven’t managed to get my hands on a copy, but ICRPG is a game I have loved from afar for a while.
Best game ever.

Thanks for the video. I would add that the GM section is one of the best GM manuals available anywhere.

It's super stream lined with a lot of great elements.

My next party will have cards along with their character sheet

@@NeoRichardBlake Yes, I have seen several iterations of what we call ICRPG. Needs some better direction.
@@BunnyNiyori yeah I'd still agree with that. The power of a good editor. 😋
