Osaka pro bow. 37.5" 100% carbon. Great stick. I'm a defender and so i don't particularly try and use a lot of aerial skills, so i dont need the low bow. all im looking for is a stick that slaps it like a train and the 100% carbon does that. No problems throwing with the pro bow. My first Osaka, it wont be my last.
Well done guys, loved the video. I’m 25 and just starting to play field hockey again after dabbling at high school for a year or two just to have fun and keep my fitness up (Australia)
This was really helpful. I’m looking at getting a new stick, will try to come past you guys 😁 I currently use a Adidas tx24 carbon fibre (2014). It’s a 37.5’’
LOL! I was doing a search for hockey sticks ... except, here in Canada, when you type or talk about "hockey" it is assumed you mean ICE hockey. In fact, I've never seen field hockey played in Canada nor do I know ANYONE who plays it! Even though I came across many Canadian YT videos for (ice) hockey sticks, I suppose I'll have to be a bit more exacting in what I'm asking for here in YT. As for "ice" hockey in South Africa (even though you do have a national team), I think the closest most of you will experience is roller hockey (i.e., rollerblading and hockey combined; this is a more common form of our ice hockey but in warmer climates.
I had a high carbon dragon nucleus which was incredible performance wise but developed cracks pretty quickly. Looking for something lb to xlb particularly some osakas and gryphon sticks.
I like using the Mercian Genesis Pro bend because it has nice control over the ball and is very light weight making hitting a bit easier than with a heavier one. I would recommend this stick to a player who has played for a few years and wants to improve their aerial ability
Im in 9th grade and ive been playing fh since 5th although i am still on a jv team my old wooden vijianti has started to kinda fall apart and i was wondering if maybe a ritual stick would be fine for my level, i like lifting and 3d skills so i dont necessarily like greys or stx sticks
Hi Mia. Thanks for your message. We definitely think it is time to retire that old wooden Vijianti. The performance and durability on modern sticks will definitely benefit you. With regards to the brands you mentioned, remember that you need to decide on the size, bow shape and carbon composition that suits your budget, then see what options within these specs are available in each brand and then decide from those models.
Heyyy!!! i been playing field hockey since i was a kid, i´m 22 now, i play with an old stick the one that Luciana Aymar designed. Its Malik 90% carbono, Fiberglass 5% , Keblar 5%. Im looking forward to upgrade my stick, since its old and i think there is some new technologys outthere. I play as left wing, which stick would you recommend for me? thanks!!!
I’m about to be a junior and have an stx stick. I obviously need to upgrade. I’m 5’0 and a midfielder. My coach recommended gray sticks. What do you recommend?
Hi Hannah, it all comes down to preference as well as bow shape, composition and size. We would also recommend you look at Oregon hockey sticks, they have a great range of sticks. www.oregon-hockey.co.za
Hi Ben, If you're comfortable with a stick with a bit of a bow/curve, maybe look at a low bow. A low bow give you the ability to do some aerial skills and will make it a bit easier to lift the ball when shooting at goal.
We highly recommend the Wolf Low Bow from Oregon, it's a low bow that competes with the best on the market. It's a great all round low bow that emphasises aerial skills and dribbling. You can get one in 50%, 70% and 100% carbon. sportsrepublic.shop/search?q=wolf
It didnt really help me personally. (Im 14 now and ive played fieldhockey now over a decade on a advanced level in germany) I really enjoyed playing with the tk platinum p2 but it sadly broke after 3 and a half years of playing. Im willing to ask if someone maybe knows a comparable model? Forgot to mention im the dragflicker and a very technicall player
We recommend you go with 100% carbon so the stick will last longer and give you more power. As for bow shape, the lower the better for drag flicking. Either a low bow or a proto bow will suit your needs. If you want a stick that is great for drag flicking and dribbling we recommend the Osaka Pro Tour 100 Low Groove! Definitely the best for your playing style.
you are 14 years old, and you claim to have been playing "elite level" hockey in germany for over a decade? which means you have been an elite player since you were 4 years old? :):)
My height is 5'8 so what stick size will be best for me? I m buying it online, I have played before but I didn't measure the stick size so I have no clue.
Hey Rajveer, it all comes down to personal preference. Taller people tend to leads towards playing with a 37.5' it just gives you that extra inch over the 36.5'. It is always easier to cut a stick down so get the 37.5' and if it is too long for you you can request for the shop to cut it down an inch for you to a 36.5'. Hope that helps.
Hi There, I would recommend any stick on a pro bow. At Sports Republic we highly recommend the Oregon Deer Pro Bow available in 100%, 70% and 50% Carbon. sportsrepublic.shop/search?q=deer
Ik this is a bit late but if anyone knows an answer to the question it would be very helpful. My question is which bow size should I use. I play forward and I dont know whether to use a mid bow or a low bow stick
The Show Bow 25 is a great stick for defenders. It combines the best features from the Pro Bow and the Low Bow which makes it great for dribbling and flicking!
Hi this is a bit late, but I was in the market for a new field hockey stick, I play at a advanced level and I am a defender. I need a stick with really little vibration because sometimes i need to hit extremely hard, I am 6'2. Which stick would you recommend
Hi there. This video is here to help you understand which stick (bow, composition and size) characteristics you should buy. Which brand and model you should buy is dependent on your budget and what is available in your area. Decide on the characteristics you want and then select the stick that meets all the requirements
@@SportsRepublic Hi is there a specific stick you would recommend for a defender that likes to hit hard and wants minimum vibration. Any brand would be good

Hey, I’m a defender too and I’ve ordered the exact same stick but in 36.5” so hearing that is really reassuring.
@@ffluss i am a full back it is amazing for getting it straight up there, dribbling and tackling
It's super expensive bruh
I got a Mazon Black Magic Eagle. 95% carbon and works a fricken dream. Nicest stick i’ve ever owned
Well done guys, loved the video. I’m 25 and just starting to play field hockey again after dabbling at high school for a year or two just to have fun and keep my fitness up (Australia)
Enjoy it Chris!
I use a bravo elite XIII and I love it. It really helps my 3D skills as the centre mid and captain for my team
This was really helpful, as a beginner hocky player I didn’t know were to begin with sticks until now- thank you ✌🏻

This helped alot cause im currently looking to buy a stick for this season😊
Maybe look at the adidas lx24 not a bad price
The stick I'm using is the grays gx2000 ultrabow Junior 34 inch because it got me to a team in two days!
I use a couple ribcore or an Easton mako
I had a high carbon dragon nucleus which was incredible performance wise but developed cracks pretty quickly. Looking for something lb to xlb particularly some osakas and gryphon sticks.
I currently use a y1 prototype stick it has 100% carbon and is very cheap. It is very smooth and easy to dribble with.
I like using the Mercian Genesis Pro bend because it has nice control over the ball and is very light weight making hitting a bit easier than with a heavier one. I would recommend this stick to a player who has played for a few years and wants to improve their aerial ability
What position do yoy play
JDH 2020 X93 Low Bow and JDH 2020 X79 Concave are two that I personally use and like a lot. Should add JDH to the stall! Really the best brand!
Hi Xavier. Thanks for the feedback. We are just waiting for some stock to arrive into SA and then we will get some and do a review.

mercian evolution 0.5 hex is the best way to play your hockey!
I have only returned to playing hockey after 30 years. Can you please advise me on whether to go for a low or mid bow?
We would think that you would find a mid bow more comfortable.
Help I’m looking for a stick to improve aerial game my strong is hitting pass as a defender though. Would you recommend a curve stick?
Hey I am 13 and I’m 5:9 what size stick should I recommend, I’m currently playing with Osaka futerlab 37.5
37,5 sounds ideal 💪

Hi there, what level are you playing at. If senior level then a 36.5 would more than likely be more comfortable for you.
My stick size is a 35" however when looking for a new stick I can not rind a senior 35" for my age
Hi, 35" is a junior size. You can however purchase a 36,5 and we can cut it down to a 35.
Hi mate, please i have 1,68 cm or 5/6 , what stick i have to chosse??
When you dribble do you feel cramped up with a 37.5? If yes then go 36.5
