Our power is out after 9 inches of snow and ice. It’s 25 degrees out. I had surgery and can’t pull start our generator. My phone battery was low and we are hungry. So . . . I searched and found this video to make sure I started the fire right. I made Swiss miss and ramen noodles just for the warmth, speedy cooking, and fun of it. Wish I could post a picture of this wonder tool next to the snow on our deck. Thank you!!

you can ease your hunger by eating fiber-rich food. You can clean up, peel and eat three green apples and drink three soapspoons of olive oil without salt added. Drink two glasses of fresh water and that will ease your hunger for at least half day. I tried that for more than 8 months during the lockdown and it worked perfeclty. You see, today's food is full of artificial nutrients which lack actual fiber. The fiber is the key to stop hunger while actually feeding the body with nutrients.
Beware! Too cold and the battery doesn’t charge. In -5C mine didn’t charge anymore.

Hi from Japan. The BioLite is great, but if you have trouble lighting the fire/getting it going, lay the chamber on its side and light the tinder that way. Once it gets going, turn it upright.

Ceramics and pottery methods/technology from 600 AD, agriculture, painting, literature, education and philosophy. This is an island country, and I think the only major "natural resource" here is the Japanese people themselves.

I love my 1st gen stove. Wouldn't trade it for anything. We do a lot of van camping and we used to use propane and charcoal. No More!!! Then we found your company. We take a small old cooler with some old cut to length 2x4s and I split them at home with a hatchet. We always have dry pine wood to start the fire or to use even if it's raining or wet. You would not believe how little wood these stoves use and that in itself is awesome. LOVE MY STOVE :)

just bought it tonight and wanted to try all the features. I tried starting a fire with small pine slivers and pieces of paper. didn't really work, and i didnt know about the fan initially so I didn't have the power module installed. i think pellets are probably the way to go because I was feeding the fire every couple of minutes it seemed like, which is kind of impossible out in the wild. I was impressed with how fast the water heated even on the low fan setting; its faster than putting the kettle in a fire. I'm still figuring out the grill-- the metal got hot, but I couldn't make a piece of toast. i think the pellets will help with this immensely. wood from the wild will work in a pinch, you just have to really nurse the thing or the fire will eat all the fuel in a couple of minutes.
Hey all -- just got a request on another video to explain a bit more about using BioLite pellets in the CampStove 2:
Firestarting with pellets is fairly straightforward: fill up about 3/4 of the way and then place lit firestarter on top. The fan will kick in when it detects enough heat. Pellets will burn for about 30-40 minutes straight so you don't need to worry about refueling BUT if you do want to refuel, we recommend letting the pellet fire burn down and then refilling from scratch (they leave very little ash behind).
Because of their density, if you drop a bunch of pellets into an existing fire, you run the risk of snuffing out the flame. If you reaaaaallly want to refuel while the pellet fire is still going, you can add a few sticks (helps keep room for the fire to breathe) or you can carefully drop a few pellets in at a time. Thanks!

Regarding to BioLite Camp Stove 2...Please, I think you BioLite should answer the doubts of the comments...The aluminum part melts? how long does it take to charge a cell phone? what kind of material is recommended for burning? Can I fully charge the power bank just by burning wood and how long does it take ? If the device malfunctions, it will be replaced or I will have my money back? In case of a natural disaster (when you do not have electricity) will the stove work for a few days or weeks just burning wood? How it works at sub-zero temperature? It will rust if I use it in camping on the beach? For how many minutes or hours can I use it without stopping? Can I use the stove every day and for how long, only minutes or hours? Thnaks!

By the way, I have used mine 3 times and it is doing pretty good making burgers, although used your pellets and had no problem getting it going. Cooked some water as well. Also made some soft cooked Eggs in the boiler, went pretty good.
Although I still have to figure out the best way to get rid of the left over coals in my area when using it.

Can u put it on it side to have better surface area and lower the center of gravity to prevent tip over? It can be the same exact size just open up the long side to put the twigs in.

NICE VERY NICE, Never would have thought of this for camping. PS. here's a suggestion, could you make three sizes of this unit, Small, Medium and Large, for home emergency use and camping. But yet, still be economically feasible to buy. This idea just came to me after watching your video and reading the comments below.
they actually already kinda do that. This campstove is like the Small, there the Basecamp they export to poor countries you could see as the Medium and there's the Firepit which would be the L. All are built around the same principles. The Basecamp probably makes the most sense as a power generating home stove.

I just received this for my birthday, but I noticed from all the videos, that every biolite has a rectangle cut out on the end of the probe attached to the power module. Mine doesn't; just a completely solid rod. Is that something I should be weary about and to maybe exchange mine?

What is the best way to refuel with the pellets? When I add more pellets when the fire has died down I get a ton of smoke. Should I be adding fuel when the fire is mid way through the first batch of pellets?
Hey there - Great questions. Be sure to add more pellets when the fire is still going but don't drop a ton of pellets in at a time as this will snuff out the fire. We usually grab a handful and gradually drop them in using a stick to stir them into the burning pellets. You can also refuel using sticks and twigs once you have a pellet fire going.

I recently lost my stove, fuel can, coffee maker . I bought replacements for each, but either I left the stove on, or the cheap stove malfunctioned. Either way I want to buy this as my main stove. My favorite wood stove is just 🪵 with holes in it. No adding fuel and it has constant, consistent flame that can last hours, depending on the size of the log .

When I use wood pellets filled to the suggested point, the fire is almost impossible to start. Maybe the top layer will burn, but it won’t make it down to the bottom. Could it be the pellets I’m using? They’re Oklahoma Joe’s hardwood apple pellets.
Hello! While we have not used those specific pellets before, the challenge may be a lack of airflow from too many pellets in the chamber. Start with some small sticks and a small handful of pellets to get the fire going (which in turn kicks on the fans). You can also always light a stick outside the chamber and place it in once burning to get a flame ahead of time. Hope this helps!
Yes I have had the same issue with wood pellets sometimes it goes out n smokes
@@davidlaw233 The solution I came up with was to create my own fire starters by saturating cotton balls with petroleum jelly. I can fill the stove to the max level and put one of these fire starters on top and it burns extremely well. The petroleum jelly melts down into the pellets and helps keep the fire going.
LOL, you might want to edit this video - at 7:09 you show the stove positioned in the wind so that the flames are going over the battery and close to the handles of the kettle - that's the opposite of safe use from your own manual.
i dont understand if you got a device with you thaht needs battery charged to spi na fan and charge a phone insit thaht jsut a powerbank does the fan thing orange box get charged by the fire wiouth charge ?
Correct, the heat of the fire is what charges the battery on the product! This turns the orange component into a power bank for charging small electronics. You can charge gear both while the fire is going or whenever the battery has charge saved up.
Why micro usb to charge? Thats the only thing that i dont like about this thing, ita an extra cable that almost no other device in my household uses
Do you plan to upgrade to USB C? Its more robust and easier to handle in darkness, both qualities that are beneficial for camping.

How does the unit cools down with max speed on the Fan, if that setting actually makes for faster boiling water?
So fastest speed cools, yet burns fuel faster for heating... yet cools the unit?

I own two of these so I can tell you: the higher fan speed introduces more air into the combustion chamber causing the flames, and heat, to go up- which is good for cooking. The fuel (i.e. sticks) burn VERY quickly at the highest fan setting. In regards to the cooling ability of the fan? Once the fuel burns out the air movement will cool off the electrical components AND the burn chamber.
When grid is down how do you charge this equipment?

Great question. The beauty of CampStove is that the fire and heat you produce actually charge your battery! The time to a full charge will vary depending on how hot your fire is. The hotter and more efficient your fire is, the sooner your battery pack will be fully charged and ready to go.
Is there a difference between the probe that is solid and the one with a hole? We just got one with a solid probe and haven't seen any feedback on others with the same question.
So I got one of these, the full kit. To me a very expensive product but knowing what’s behind it also worth it.
Mine is making a lot of noise, weird scraping metallic noise. From new. It had always made the weird noise, loud, quiet, loud again, like metal screeching. I have never dared to use it so it had only three trials. I figured it was broken, brought it to the shop for replacement they decided not to replace mine (because once i lit it, it was used….) and told me they would sent it in for repair… i complained it was new but alas. After 3 weeks i asked what the situation was and they told me; we just mailed it out to you, i ask for a track and trace and then they said; oops computer mistake. We’ll sent it to you. Then they said, we sent it again?!
Anyway, they say they checked together with the manufacturer (you I guess) and it was and is supposed to do exactly what I described. They say, it is supposed to make this awful screeching sound.

Hello! Great question. The way CampStove is designed includes this very consideration. Unless users are in high wind scenarios, the flames should be above the battery pack. Even in those situations, the battery casing is protective to ensure no harm is done to internal systems.
My cook pot is slim enough to perfectly fit inside the pot stand, not on top, so that the bottom of the pot sits flush with the top of the stove. Is this okay, or will this cause the flame to get snuffed out unless I switch to a wider pot that leaves an air gap?
Get a wider pot. You can see that the BioLite coffee pot fits snugly to the stove but it has a raised bottom with vents for air flow.

It looks amazing but wouldn't it take something like 800 hours to charge a modern phone at 3 watts? Even for a small charge 24 hours for a 5% battery as an emergency item still not awful but you make it sound like this will charge your phone overnight or in a few hours which is imposable with a 3 watt output.

Hey Jason, The CampStove can be used in all types of climates. It is not waterproof so we don't recommend using it in a torrential down pour, but we see our community using it in the summer desert heat as well as in snowy winters in Colorado. In terms of cold, the CampStove can work in below freezing temps.

myrthmaker if you mean a nalagene bottle then no. It fits inside the 1.5L kettle biolite makes. Its about 2L with the baffle and the lid.

It must be optional for a spirit burner (like military alcohol burner Svea). There is no wood in the rocks in the mountains. People use alcohol burners ( like climbers). Think about it.

Use a tarp or Cover it with somthing. A campfire in wet condition is the same Problem .its not magic, its fire,and rain /water is not good for fire

Hello,,, I read on BioLite that charcoal is a different type of fuel than a wood product.... something about it being a glowing ember instead of putting off gasses needed for a “lit” fire. I thought charcoal would be a great fuel too.
I did see large bags of pellets are 3.99$ The price being a non-factor if u choose pellets as fuel.
Good question can't see why not many of it would burn too hot with the fan

Hi Masum Khan - The CampStove 2 is for outdoor use only and is a great small, portable grill for backyards, decks, etc.

Hey Johnny -- You can, technically speaking, but we do not recommend it as an ideal fuel source. Charcoal will glow like embers but will not promote complete combustion and you'll be left with a lot of leftover ash and mass at the end of your burn which could also end up gunking up your airjets. The combustion chamber is designed to work optimally with the flames of a stick or pellet fire.
Its a good product but its not perfect aka the plastic cover on the power module

Will it rust if i submerge it in water? If so how long will it take to rust completely? If i throw it against a brick wall will it break? If so what is the damage? What is the percentage of aluminum to other metals? Will i be able to keep this going using only blades of grass? How high are you able to throw this? Why did you not post the terms of service? How many of these were made worldwide? How long exactly does it take to cool from max heat? Does the water get warm enough for my child to bathe himself? How many kids are allowed to bathe? I mean god damn you guys missed so many valid questions.

It's a 15Wh battery. Based on promised 3W output, the battery will be fully charged in 5 hours of the burning fuel. However, the fan used to accelerate burning process takes power too, so real time until the battery full charged may be ~10 hours

Hi there -- the combustion chamber is the same size as the original CampStove and thanks to it's efficient combustion, it's capable of providing really hot and strong flames that can cook full meals. You can do a lot in a little space when the physics are aligned :)

Hey! So from a pellets perspective, the chamber can fit about 300-400g (you want to fill right up to the last row of jets so it can be completely combusted, don't go past that). From a stick/twig perspective, it's hard to say exactly because it will depend on the diameter of your fuel and the room you leave for the fire to get oxygenated (you don't want to overstuff). We would recommend right-sizing your fuel down to about 5-6 inches in height so it can burn completely.

If you guys sold this for $50 or close to that price I’d get it, but you have actual solar generators that hold a good charge at the price your asking. Your older one went down to $50 at walmart. Need to make this one $50-$70 or somewhere close to that range

What I would do it's to create a container or a box that can fit the stove and the pot for cooking inside. That box will have a fan to push the air in and a air filter so that you can filter all the smokes. You will need a box for it anyways. I would make that box into a back pack so that I can use it to keep others stuffs in there too. It's ok for the filter to be wash with river water on land. Those carbon is good for the soil anyways. Living green. But not in industrial level because industrial level is burning rubbish and chemicals that even those filters are harmful to the environment.
I have one of the First Gen stoves as well as a Base Camp Stove with a pizza stone, lid and carry bag. I have one request though, please refrain from using the word "Via" so much in your videos. It is a grossly over used word that many people use to sound smarter than they are and it accomplishes the opposite. I know that is not the case with your company though. Thanks for the great products.

BioLite thanks for your polite reply. Any number of words or phrases will take the place of that word. "With the use of" or "By way of" might work. Also, I want to mention that the two stoves that I do have, I couldn't be happier with. I love tools and gadgets especially gadgets with a Survivalist lean to them.

This is smart, but a propane stove is much more convenient, compact, and the stove part will heat unevenly. You also have to get firewood with this if you don’t have pellets, so the outdoor conditions (rain = wet wood) can affect this, and the size of the sticks matter, and this is a backpacking stove since it’s small and compact, which would make it a lot less inconvenient than the propane backpacking stoves.
