Another thing that should be mentioned: when you inflate your cheeks with air and then push the air out of your cheeks while breathing in through the nose, the back of your tung would be positioned on the roof of your mouth; I can't exactly explain why this is, but it basically prevents any air from your lungs from trying to get into or out of the mouth. Your body actually has 2 air passageways: (1) from the mouth to the lungs, and (2) from the nose to the lungs. When you press the back of your tung against the roof of your mouth like that, the passageway from the mouth to the lungs is blocked off, but the passageway from the nose to the lungs is wide open for air to go through. I realize this when beatboxing (you can actually beatbox while breathing in and out through your nose!), so actually it's very similar in concept to circular breathing.

    Good video.
I’ve come close here and there, but never got it all the way. This is making me reconsider trying it.

Maybe try it with easier notes to produce, like C# or C/B natural to begin with. I find it more difficult on larger instruments as well. Focus on allowing your cheeks to expand to their maximum capacity so that you have plenty of air to push through the instrument when breathing in.

@@ParkHouseCreations Can you describe, further elaborate on the process of "filling and re-filling your cheeks with air" both at the beginning and during circular breathing cycles? I have got some cheek and lung muscle isolation now and can really feel when I'm using ONLY the cheeks to expel the stored air (from the cheeks) through the mouth and can comfortably choose to take inhales of different numbers and durations and depths during that "cheek-only expelling window" but as soon as I finish the squeezing out of the air in the cheeks (through the mouth) I have no muscle awareness or conceptual framework on how to re-fill the cheeks with air WHILE keeping the air flowing (say for either my alto sax or didgeridoo - but even for the air when practicing or with a glass of water. Thank you! 🙏

to be clear the inhales I mentioned I was comfortable taking were of course only through the nose.

When it clicks, it won’t take long! Just keep going through the steps and one day everything will snap into place!
