    Definitely want one of these. Massive non-shrill sound, humbucking, great build quality, short scale, looks stunning and not something you see being played by everyone else. Perfect for me 😎

    yes I've got one, had it about 18 months, agree with everything you say. I've played the Epiphone version, sounded dull and felt cheap, the Vintage is in a whole different league .....love that neck PU sound, I usually have it on 9 or 10, bridge PU on 5, and tone on 3 for deep dubby tones, push the bridge PU up to 8 for more funky stuff...I put flatwounds on it, sounds lovely

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  Год назад +1

      Flatwounds! Oh cool, I bet that has some thump! I really only use flats on my fretless but I have plenty of basses, I’ve often thought about putting flats on one of them. No idea why I haven’t done that yet…… might be a job for this week. 🙂

      yeah do it...there are pros and cons, I prefer the sound of flats for the stuff I play, and they're kinder to your fingers and frets...but rounds have more 'bite' and cut through more....maybe you should do a rounds vs flats comparison vid? :)

    Hi Jamie.
    I was just recommended your channel by the algorithm. Then I suddenly realised who you were.
    Years ago I had Facebook and was part of a group of Vintage guitar players.
    I think that was your group.
    I've owned various Vintage guitars over the years. Currently have three - a white VS6, a V100GT and a V76LB.
    All great instruments.
    I also own an Epiphone EB-0, which this is based on this VS4 and I don't get on with it. Maybe I'll try this as an alternative.
    Best wishes.

      Hey dude! Yeah that’s right, I run the Vintage Group on Facebook, although these days I have a lot of great help. Years ago I really wanted to love that Epiphone but it was really lacking something that the Vintage they sent me has in spades. I didn’t keep it though and wish I could have. I’ll definitely be ordering one for myself. It was so cool to have for studio work because I’m always knocking stuff off the end of the desk with the headstock of my basses. 😂

    Hi Jamie,
    thanks for this very interesting and very good review.
    I ´ve always wanted an original Gibson EB 3,but the prices......
    This Vintage Bass looks very interesting to me,because it has that short scale neck like the original,not like the Epiphone EB 3 with its long scale neck.
    Do you think,this bass is a good alternative to the original Gibson?
    The sound in this video is amazing!
    Greeting from Germany!!!!

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  2 года назад +1

      Thank you very much for watching and taking time to comment. I think it’s a better bass than a lot of those Gibsons because the sound is more versatile. If you’re not bothered what it says in the headstock then it’s a superb alternative. :)

  • @slicerlml
    @slicerlml 2 года назад +1

    Excellent demo! That is remarkably versatile, eh. If you don't mind me asking, what are you using for the ambient effects at 5:00 in?

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  2 года назад +1

      Thank you very much sir Graeme! It’s the kind of bass you think might be a bit of a one trick pony I suppose but it turns out to be more versatile than a lot of other basses. The sounds in that demo are from one of the tracks I made for the “cool grooves” sample pack. I used FAC Drumkit, SampleTron, Tal-U-No-XL, and Synthmaster 2 in Cubasis 3 on my iPad. I’m also using a Nembrini shimmer delay and FAC Alteza on the guitar.

    Hi Jamie, great video as always, Is yours an older model as I see it has a fleur de lys on the headstock? I understand these are currently out of stock but does/ will the newer version have the fleur de lys? Thanks.

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  Год назад

      Hi Andy, thank you for watching. The bass is not mine, it is a demo model. It was from the most recent stock at the time of making the video. As far as I know there are no plans to change the design.

      @@JamieMallender Thanks Jamie, I have V4, would you say the VS4 is lighter?

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  Год назад

      That’s a hard question to answer because V4’s made in more recent years weigh about 8 lbs which is pretty light for a bass made out of a decent wood but older ones could be quite a bit heavier and also varied a lot in weight. I’d say it weighs about the same as recent V4 basses.

    Have you ever tried an epiphone eb0? They seem pretty similiar to each other and I'd like to know which would be a better instrument

    • @JamieMallender
      @JamieMallender  2 года назад +2

      Yes I worked in a music shop for a while so tried several of the Epiphone version. They’re not as well made as the Gibsons but pretty well put together for the money. However, they are nothing like as versatile tone wise as the Vintage and the hardware isn’t as good. I’d choose the Vintage in fact, whilst it was here as a demo model I recorded several sessions with it and intend to buy myself one. I wouldn’t bother with a Gibson.
