This is how it is to grow up in CENTRE Amsterdam. These are basically very rich kids who can afford to live in these VERY expensive and monumental so called canal houses. Definitly NOT representative of the rest of Amsterdam at all, let alone the rest of NL.

My brother lives in Amsterdam with his Indonesian wifey and their 3 kids. My brother and I grew up in a little town in province South Holland, so I'm often a bit scared for my brother's kids. There's a lot of crazy traffic and you often hear about weapons being used there in crimes. And I'm probably scared because of how safe it was where I grew up when I was a kid, but still. Worried auntie. lol.

New York used to be called New Amsterdam, owned by the Dutch and so the area used to be very similar to Amsterdam. Then the Brits conquered it and called it New York so it slowly became what it is now.

I'm Dutch and whenever I visit A'dam I'm always am ashamed of how foul and dirty that city is, not representative for the rest of the country, actually quite the contrary. But seeing most foreigners spend most of their time in the NL'sin A'dam they might get the impression Dutchies are sloppy pack-rats.

@@Mazil_5 No, I was there in February, with all due respect capital cities all over Europe have tourists, lots of them too. It appeared to me that it was a city authority issue. I didn't see any street cleaners out, like I would see here in my own country in the early morning. I should mention that some parts were beautifully kept with wonderful floral displays, but the rubbish was just too much not to miss. I was one of those tourists that you mention, I did nothing to make the city dirty, I never would.

    • @MLWitteman

Mostly has to do with the people going through the rubbish bins, looking for plastic bottles & cans. You can return these items to the supermarket, and get a little amount of money in return. These people leave the bins open, and the animals do the rest. On top of that, a large amount of tourists simply throw away their garbage on the streets. The city cleaners simply can’t cope with the amount of rubbish on the streets these days.
