Hello there! I dont belong to the jewish community, but I am learning so much that I feel obliged to show respect and to say thank you for sharing such a rich tradition of thought.

Dr. Abramson, isn’t there video footage of the Chofetz Chaim from 1928? That gives a much better idea of what he looked like.

Why is this video not available to me with RUclips's security mode on?

It was required under the government law to put the author’s name in Russian so he complied but did not put the author’s name in Hebrew.

Problem is that Loshon Hara is emphasised and l'Toeles is not. This has created many problems and failure to report crimes. So I do think his work has been distorted - with a very heavy cost to the klal.

Who do you think is in charge? Hashem will punish all sinners and his punishments are exact. He sees everything. You don’t need to be a rat for that person to be punished. Yes we need to make sure someone who is a serious threat to others’ safety is apprehended, but unless there is a serious threat, you are doing a giant sin to say anything.

@@uria702 It is a bigger aveiros to stay silent and allow the criminal act to proceed. This is used to often by criminals relying on Loshon Hora, once they have passed criminal threshold, it is our responsibility to report it and warn others.
