This is precisely the information I was looking for. Thank you for confirming my thoughts. My situation:
    1. First time drone buyer
    2. Non-commercial
    3. Wanted Mini 1 but wanted price cut
    4. Aware of potential launch of Mini 2
    5. Price of Mini 1 vs. Mini 2 vs. Mavic Air 2
My result was that I ordered Mini 1 Fly More for US $399 during Prime Sale prior to having details on Mini 2. Mini 2 turns out to be $599 for Fly More. Based on your video I am now quite happy because I had paid $200 less and if I really get into this hobby, I would perhaps jump to a Mavic Air 2 to compliment my Mini 1 especially if I try to do any commercial work.
TLDR: If you are a first time hobbyist and catch a good sale on Mini 1, I think that is a solid choice.

I bought also the Mini 1 FMC for 399 usd. But I think I am returning it, and getting the Mini 2 base with just one extra battery. The main thing for me is raw photos, and I can see with the go pro hero 8 with still photos, DNG vs jpg in Lightroom there is a huge difference in keeping details in the sky and highlights in general. If the Mini 1 had the possibility of raw still photos I would not consider the mini 2. Also I imagine the mini 2 may be safer to fly over the ocean. If only DJI allowed raw photos for the mini 1 software update. The box is still sealed and I have a couple of days to decide.

I'm in the exact same boat - knew about the Mini 2 rumors but couldn't pass up the Mini 1 Prime Day sale. This video cured my buyer's remorse. My son and I are having a ton of fun with the Mini 1, and thanks to this video, I am convinced that it's fine for our purposes and that the upgraded specs on the Mini 2 aren't as compelling an upgrade as they initially seemed to be. It would be nice if a firmware/software update brought some of the Mini 2 features to the Mini 1, though.

OcuSync 2.0 allows transmissions in the 2.4Ghz wifi band unlike the Mavic Mini which only does the 5.8Ghz wifi band. Most modern day internet routers are using the 5.8Ghz band because faster data speeds are possible. The Mini 2 will switch bands as needed to improve a weak signal or combat interference. I already own a Mavic Mini and today I bought the Mini 2. In heavily wooded areas, the Mini 2 will go at least twice the distance as the Mavic Mini with zero video glitches or losses of communications. Just sayin.....

Purchased the original mavic mini 6 weeks ago. Soon after, I learned about the mini 2 so impetuous child me immediately rushed out and picked one up upon release yesterday with the full intent of selling the original on ebay. Now....I'm not quite so sure about that. The occusync 2 was the big selling point for me with the mini 2 (been hooked on that since the M2Z)....but there's another great advantage to the mini 2 that you didn't mention....sound quality! I don't know what it is about the sound. It's a lower pitch than a bee hive and quieter than the original mavic mini. Maybe it's not really quieter but it's definitely less annoying and less noticeable, thereby drawing much less attention from bystanders which is invaluable for us who frequently film in locations with people not far away. That in essence makes your filming a much more stealthy process and lessens chance encounters with one of those ubiquitous self-absorbed nut cases who seeks you out to accuse you of spying on them. The less noticeable noise may actually be a bigger advantage than the occusync 2. YES....I do think the mini 2 is all around a better product. Even though fairly identical, the build quality is significantly less flimsy on the 2. The only reason I can see for keeping the the 1st mavic mini is the portability. The little grey case in the fly more package is just the ultimate in convenience.& ease of portability. If I'm not going to be doing serious flying (distance, strong winds, etc.) and want a drone with me just in case... it just makes more sense. Guess I'm talking myself into keeping both as I write this. Some of us will never grow up! Safe flying!

I needed this video. I bought my mini..... 3 and half weeks ago. I mainly wanted to play with drone video and already premiere color grades it pretty well with LUTS. JPEG isnt the end of the world, with bracketing and also if you're NOT pushing to extremes on a JPEG it has some decent latitude. Also last I checked, on my 65in 4k TV, I am not 2 inches away, I am at least 10-12 ft... Which 2.7k will look just the same. Excellent vid.
USA/FAA Requires you have visual LOS of the drone, with ocusync that can mean you can fly beyond "legal" limits of your sight.. Which I dont expect to do 10k on a battery straight out. Video consistency in heavy areas can help. Also the OG mini controller is the best part of it. I was able to pop whole kit in my cargo pants and go fly!

I’ve been a freelance videographer for 6 years now and am able to be the sole income provider for my family here in San Diego, California. My approach is, I’m doing this to earn money so I make my purchases very calculated. Example went for a GH5 and GH5S and lenses and lighting instead of one C200. Clients haven’t asked me much for arial footage, though I work it into projects when I can. And the corporate video I used it the most on was actually a video that I did as a gift to for a local school!

Love the Mavic Mini, use it for myself and sell footage as well occasionally. For me the Mini2 solves the problems I had with the Mini - the 4k makes the footage more saleable, the wind stability would be useful and the better connection sounds great as I do lose connection on my Mini which is a bit scary when it happens. So I'm definitely tempted to upgrade.. . it is a shame the controller is bigger because, at my age, Ive learned the hard way that portability is king... but I don't put them in a pocket, I put them in a rucksack so I'm not sure I'll notice too much. Came here to say that your "should you upgrade" video is one of the very few I feel is giving an objective assessment. If I hadn't been able to sell my Mavic Mini essentially for what I paid for it and wasn't looking for the RAW photo capability, can't see a compelling reason to upgrade to the Mini 2. I did have a hard look at the Mavic Air 2, but with Australia (where I live) looking to have compulsory registration (with no real detail on how/where those personal details will be stored or who will have access) for all recreational drones above 250g and above from mid 2022, I think the Mini 2 will be sufficient for my needs well into the future.

The ones that are really attractive to me on the mini 2 are range and a little better wind resistance. However, it is not enough for an upgrade for me, I supplement with another and larger drone to cover up the shortcomings. The OcuSync and better motors are the reasons why I am upgrading after only 5 months of owning the MM1. I completely agree that its not worth upgrading for the 4K footage (although that is a nice touch when 4K becomes more and more common over the next 12/24 months). But the biggest problem I have living in the UK flying my MM1 is the wind! It is regularly right on the cusp of what the MM1 can handle. The M2 is significantly better in the wind (the difference from being able to handle 17mph wind to 24mph). Also the wifi connection from controller to drone on MM1 is fine.... but lacks any real ability to be bold and push out safely/ with confidence.
If you were going to buy one now, not owning either, you would have to buy the M2. For just £90 more (fly more combo on both) you get 4K, better wind resistance, OcuSync2.0, Zoom. That is worth it as a package in itself for me, not to mention other small added extras like better propeller efficiency and increased battery life. The next option up is the MA2 and the fly more combo here costs £1000! For the hobbyist, that is a huge amount in comparison.
So pack up your MM1, put it all on FB marketplace for £360 and put that towards a M2 whilst the secondhand market is good for MM1s; otherwise before too long you'll be like the people trying to sell Mavic Air 1 online now; they're having a tough time.

I am so glad to have found this video. I bought the Mini one year ago and watched your original (equally as helpful) review. Money is tight but I also like to think I am up to date. As a novice who likes decent stills/video but mainly out to having fun with the grandson, you have made my day. I will keep the original mini and wait for the next mini-series with obstacle avoidance. Besides have just about as much money in accessories as I do the drone itself,,, LOL

Thanks! The possibility to have raw files is a big add. Furthermore what about the signal strength? Is the mini 2 able to go further and maybe behind a build without loosing the connection?

Still using the original Mavic Pro myself. I’ve thought about getting the Mavic Mini purely because of the weight. However I’m living in Qatar where flying drones with cameras is illegal so no pressure to upgrade at the moment. Thanks for your views on these drones Stewart. Always appreciated!

Thank you for the comparison. I too purchased the Mavic Mini 1 FMC on Prime Day special. Love it, but where I use it is a really noisy wifi environment and even with the 1.2 fly app increasing usable range from 600ft to 800ft, I purchased the Mini 2 FMC for the ocusync. Raw and zoom are icing. This leaves me in a real quandary about the mini 1... and the hard case, yagis, tablet holder, care package, etc I purchased for it..
Guess I'll figure it out in time... backup ?
    Cheers,
    Russ

It’s a mixed bag for me as a lifetime photographic enthusiast shooting RAW with full frame DSLR and an MM1 owner. RAW is very desirable as I know how to make the most of it and it’s in my Lightroom workflow anyway. 4K not essential but nice to have as that would match my Osmo Pocket footage and Resolve timeline workflow. RAW more important to me than 4K video. The controller is a bummer. Too big. I trek places for fun & photos and I Bikepack so the MM1 small controller easily slipped into my Bikepacking gear. An Mini 2 brick controller is not good. Occusync. Nice to have but honestly range or signal has never been a problem at all. I do the drone to get different perspective photos and video and I don’t need to fly more than 1KM to do that. Usually much much less. I’ve been getting great wilderness photos from great angles easily with the MM1. More power to handle wind would be nice but I’ve been flying the MM1 off cliffs and out over the coast off southern Australia and never had a problem if the weather is ok. So after that l, Will I upgrade? Not at this time.

Thanks a lot! I got a little worried when I saw the announcement of this drone. I have one question to you. When filming a moving target, like a motorcyclist, would you rather use the 2.7K 30fps or the 1080p 60fps? Thanks for an answer in advance!

Thanks for your review. For the price difference, having to buy a first drone, is then still better MM2 or MM1? (For the price, I mean)

i don't see the need the footage i get is fantastic i can only imagine there was a issue with fly away random crashes that DJI got fed up having to replace through drone cover so have quickly changed controllers. personally yes the signal is variable but just moving the handset helps amend this. I just wish they would unlock the raw photo function as we all know that its firmware not hardware

I have the DJI Mavic Mini for a year now and I mainly film B roll with this drone from my work on the ferries.
A perfect drone for that, I mainly use it as a flying tripod. Then I have a view of the boat and what we are doing from a distance.
When the battery is empty, it comes back automatically, put a new battery in and it does it again for 25 minutes.
I'm not upgrading to it the mavic mini 2 yet. Sorry for my bad english but it's not my native language

Thanks for this great video! bought the Mini las year and haven't really used it a lot. I also bought the Mavic Pro 2 last year, and really haven't used that too much either. But, I'll retire soon and them be using all this equipment a lot more. (I was a Army helicopter pilot for 25 years and I'm going to take advantage of all that). I'll be signing up for your courses soon!

Thanks for that review, it's good to know that I am not missing out on too much if I don't change from Mini to Mini2 right now as I just bought mine last January. The only reason I would change right now I guess would be because I would like more resistance to the winds... I brought my Mini to Mexico in February and had very often strong winds alerts at the beach and wondering if Mini 2 would be better! When gust winds are higher than 30kh it's hard to maintain flight and that's when I get alerts.
