Probably its a low compression probably caused by a blown headgasket. Check your EGR valves, your catalyst converters. Maybe its your coil, or maybe its a clogged fuel filter by dirt.
p0201, p0203, p0205, p0123, p0305 ive changed the fuel pump, filter, spark plugs, wires, new gas, sea foam in gas and through the main vac line so it cleans out the egr valve, new pcv valve and air filter. ugh now what any ideas?????
Just bought my truck cylinders six four and eight are miss firing i’m going to replace the O2 sensors and spark plugs trucks is letting off white smoke does anybody know if I have to get the heads replaced or have my head rebuilt
It's called volumemetric deficiency, check it out,ppl slesys mis diagnos this, cams and lifters need replaced,I'll bet u anything,I've fixed about 7 of these on the hemi( which I love, great motor)
Yes, start with the basics. I started using oil but no miss, so I bought the Hughes Engine plenum fix for $100...tore down & fixed. Later, was getting #6 misfire...checked plug & wire...good. Now, FINALLY, did a compression test...dry and wet. Dry; #2, #6, & #8 @ 105psi...#4 was 140psi. Wet; all 4 cylinders came up to 155psi...I'm thinking blown head gasket or cracked cyl. head. It always seemed to lose coolant also, but not blowing smoke through the exhaust. 5.9 is notorious for cracked heads.
I got 98 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 liter doing the exact same thing but no codes and no check engine light come. It runs like shit and just poured some gum out on it as well.
Late to the party I am indeed. Just wanted to point out that he was referring to the ridiculous fuel filter placement dodge chose to implement. The location he's referring to is inside the gas tank as opposed to inline usually under the vehicle somewhere.
Just a heads up 02-05 dodge 1500 you don’t need a code reader... turn key on and off 3 time then turn it on and leave it done but don’t start it and it pops the codes up for you
Just got a #4 misfire in my 99 Ram 1500. 290K on the dial. Just another fix me upper to add to the list. Came looking for a "quick fix" and I'm in the same boat. Give me a bucket so I can help bail.
Exact same thing on my 2003 5.9 on cylinder #5 It had good spark ,good injector but misfire I checked compression it was 65ps way too low. Low compression = no combustion on cylinder Turned out to be cracked heads Total Paid $800 dollars to my mobile mechanic to rebuild the heads at home Now she's back at work Always troubleshoot don't assume and randomly change parts
I have a very bad misfire and the scanner doesn't pick it up it's driving me knots changed o2 tps idle air control valve distributor timing chain spark plugs check for fuel pressure dead injector test can't figure it out I'm thinking of looking into hotter or colder spark plugs if this doesn't fix it it's getting a for sale sign also I was not normal my timing is jumping up and down from 8 degrees to 22 or 25 degrees at idle I was also thinking of replacing the computer. But I would look into spark plugs see if that's the only gets oiled up please let me know if you have a spark plug problem
What was the fix? Just bought a 2004 dodge ram 1500 V8 4.7L with the P0300,P0307 codes, it ticks, and it shakes at low rpm after 45mph. Changed: all 8 Spark Plugs, all 8 Coils, TPS throttle position sensor, Idle Control Sensor and used seafoam on the vacuum line, oil tank and gas tank. Still shakes. I’m afraid its going to be the lifters or rocker arms. But I’ll chande the crankshaft position sensor and camshaft sensor before opening the engine.
Terry Bird I wasn’t that lucky! I had a blown head gasket and I only found out after replacing the lifter and rocker arm only on cylinder 7 ($600) since to replace all of them requires messing around with the timing chain.... after that the check engine light was gone for a week then it came back and the car was leaking coolant through the exhaust, white smoke blowing like crazy.. so i changed the engine $2300 + $1500 labor. Then I found out a shake when braking... already replaced rotors, pads, calipers, upper control arm, inner and outer tie rods, and lower ball joints front end, and shocks front and rear... next things are bushings for the lower control arm, bushing for the rack & pinion mount, and wheel hub. I think it was the wheel hub all along for the shake when braking. Let me know if I can help
Karl Azevedo thanks I’m trying ta help my buddy go through th minor stuff since his 09 5.7 is throwin th 306 code had him change the coil n it helped for a couple minutes then bam!!!! Right back to misfire n shake. At one point we did notice a lil, very lil bit of white smoke coming from th exhaust but dint think nothing of it because it was in th 20’s outside. Now we’re thinking maybe it is a head gasket
Same story here on my 98 P0307 though runs like shit and wont go above 55mph shakes like a 60s muscle car when under strain and I'm really hoping its not the gasket
My truck having the same problem but its a P300 code but mine comes n goes so idk whats wrong i may try a new distributor cap plugs n wires n see if that fixes it
Man that sucks. I hope you can get her fixed. The Cavalier ( My Ranger's temporary replacement) threw a CEL today, and it turns out that there's some slippage between the input and output shafts in the transmission around 3rd gear. It's very noticeable when you're driving so i'm kinda like = / about it. Apparently it's a factory problem, and alot of people have a hard time getting it fixed correctly. Great.
Eh, my 98 f150 had a cylinder that didn't fire ended up being a lash adjuster. It kept throwing out gas the whole time till we checked that and changed it. Not sure what's going on with yours though.
I have the same problem on my 2001 ram 1500. Cylinder 8 misfire and I’ve tried everything plus tax to fix it but it’s o no avail. Did you ever solve the problem?!?
Okay, I'll walk you through the diagnostic path to finding what's wrong without just throwing parts on it. tools: scan tool, Vacuum gauge, compression testing gauge, fuel pressure test gauge. Instructions for each tool are or were in the box so I won't waste my time going over that. test for spark don't just change the plug and wires or the cap and rotor, test it at the plug. Got spark?Yes/no if not it's electrical fix the no spark. Got spark yes, next test compression 3 puffs should be above 135 more is better. 130 or lower just mark it down. Now the running Vacuum reading, how the needle reacts will tell what's going on inside. Normal readings will be steady and between 17-21 inch a steady low reading of 15 inches indicates rings are going south. Here's a link to reading the vacuum gauge www.onallcylinders.com/2016/03/31/vac-visual-quick-guide-vacuum-gauge-readings/ One thing you have to remember is if you don't do the testing you can't rule out the issues you don't want to do. It Could be a burnt valve and testing can confirm it instead of pulling the head to find out that was not it. Back yard boys spend more money chasing down issues by throwing parts at it, that by the time they have solved the problem it will have cost them more than a shop with a knowledgeable mechanic. Last thing. did you ever find out what was the issue?
Right....Start with basics...First thing check compression. If that's ok you have no worries! If compressions bad then you may have a burn't valve or other problems as you already know. There's no smoke so the head gasket and rings hopefully seem ok. If the compressions good then change the plug and wire again...Just coz they're new doesn't automatically mean they're good!!! You'll fix it...Best of luck!!!
i would say check the coil i used to have chevy blazer that did the same thing but chevy is known to have distributor problems. anyways back to the dodge i would say maybe your coil is goin and if thats not it then its possible maybe the distributor is goin out on it.
I'm having a misfire on 1 and 5 and idk what to do. I know I need to replace one of my lifters. Don't that be the reason behind me having a misfire in both cylinders?
Hi dodgedrummer. What fixed the P0600 code. I got the same code on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.9L engine. 33,000 miles. I changed plug and it did nothing. Have wires and cap and rotor and a new injector but from reading it does not sound like any of these will solve the number 6 cylinder misfire. Any suggestions?
Take out the spark plug and put a lil very tiny bit of oil like the cap of the oil bottle jus as mucht as that. Then put the spark plug back and start her she will smoke but if it runs better then you have bad piston rings if it does nothing then it could be a leaky head gasket or a valve gone bad
If its not a mechanical problem then it could be a bad wire bad coil wrong spark plug cam sensor or crank sensor or the gear that the crankshaft sensor reads is bad or even the ECU gone bad
I have the same truck and have been throwing a multiple cylinder misfire code forever I think it’s either a cracked head or I need all new fuel injectors
Im not sayin a replaced plenum plate wouldnt be the problem. If the stock steel plate has been replaced with an aftermarket aluminum plate, try a magnet down the TB.
i have the same also, seems to be commonn for dodge, it has a rough idle and also shuts of while in gear on the brakes, ok i change with all new parts, spark plugs, dis cap, wires, idle con sensor, rotor, coil, spark plugs, choke sensor, sensor under the cap n rotor, took throttle body off and cleaned it, used sea foam also, still misfires on all cylenders codes come up are po201 threw208, p1391 cmp,po132 bank 1 sensor1, spent alot of money very disapointed wit this truck
Mine runs like crap and then runs good. 1999 5.9L. Everytime it starts to run bad you can hear a sucking sound coming from around the intake. Cant find a hole sound like its under the airbox. Don't know if it is the engine needing more air to run when it is running like crap so it sucks more or if it is the problem. Has no power at all and sometime clunks out when you hit the gas. ALSO POPS REALLY LOUD WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS.
awesome this happened with me and one of my buddies. He was getting ready to throw away a lawn mower, which was only about a year old because the plug was bad and it quit running. He replaced the plug and was sure that the motor was dead. It was a dead new plug...yeah. They aren't always 100%
do the Gum Out and/or try Sea Foam OR BOTH first cause it is the cheapest. It could also be the crank sensor. Or you could have a bad plug or wire in the 6th cylinder.
I have same situation on my dodge durango 5.9l and tried everything the code never goes...finally i checked the PCM with elctrition and we find out 3 ACs electronic damage he riplace the with same serial ACs and the code disappear... But still my car is going like crap.. Still camshift to be suspect and let you know if i did fix it... I wish i helped you a little bit... Wish your car to be repaired..
It sounds like most of you towards the bottom of the page are hearing air. Check around your injectors. The fuel injectors if the seals or orings are not sealed right will make a large vaccum sound hiss. This is common and will also cause a misfire. When changing injectors, FYI if you change one change them all!!. One will over compensate the others or as you see if one is clogged you have a 99.9% chance they are all the same way and will also cause a misfire.
Mine is Making that noise you are talking about every time I accelerate. So I'm going to check on those orings and seals. I check the spark plugs and wires and they seemed fine. So that my next thing to check. Thank you
I had the same problem no 02, 04,06 misfire code and a air leak, I did a complete tune up, wires , plugs, cap and rotor, the auto part man told me to go with the cheap champion spark plugs because nothing else will work good in it because he had a 01 and I have the 02 , got everything done and it runs great, I had the truck for a year but the person who had it , they had put some $12 a piece plugs in the truck , go with the regular champion plug and it want foul out
my 98 is doing the same thing already changed plugs.wires.cap.butten.coil cam sencerand crank sencer still misses after 20 min runnig clears up gonna drop the tank in the morning to see if water in gas
hmm... my 98 with the 360 runs the same way but it has no misfire.. we hooked a mac tools code checker up to it and every cyclinder runs perfect.. it only rough idles for a few minutes and it go's away.. any ideas anybody?
I have the same truck. Mine was the cylinder 8 misfire and it was a small head gasket leak. Try use a bottle of bars leak or radiator stop leak it fixed mine.. You might also have to change that one plug again
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That did it. I’ve chased this error code through this truck nearly going broke. The problem is the crankshaft position sensor. I replaced it with a mopar part and no more P0305 code, no more rough idle and odd performance issues. Trust me on this.
Just search for it on here RUclips. I've found several videos that show the general basics behind doing a dry compression test and also a wet compression test (squirting a little oil into each cylinder before you thread on the compression gage). Or if you have a vehicle repair manual might should be in there too.
@MusiikN0w Hey man my 99 is doing the same thing. It will usually start fine but after a min. or so it will start sputtering. Then if you try to drive it pops under the hood. Sounds like its coming from the exhaust manifold or intake. It pops a few times and has zero power then will run fine again for a little bit. Did you figure it out yet. I'm sure it is something to do with spark cuz the wires look really old.
i have a 99 ram with the 5.2 and does the same, and was told that engine is low on compression and needs rebuilt .fuck that i drive it to the ground before doing that, it runs super then it runs like its gonna die out with all the popping noise. then it runs great again..never buying another fucking dodge ever!
i would try a can of Sea foam in there since its close to the big 100K mark i did it on my dodge and it ran better and still runs great and my Ram has 184K now good luck and carbon build up could be causing that misfire on my ram it was my #6 so i bought 8 new wires and fixed that spark plug wire that made my code go
The reason I'm thinking blown head gasket is, the left bank of cylinders #1, #3, #5, & #7, all dry test readings were 160psi...would've been more with the wet test, but I went no further. Time to tear it down. Always do a compression test FIRST though, if the misfire in question has good ignition parts.
I get you its your alternater or your o2 sensors my durango was doing the same thing is it throwing à bank 1 code if Not its lost likely your charging system judging by the way your odometer was flickering
yea dodge does have some pisspoor ideas when it comes to there vehicles...i would know i have three including a qc sport 4.7 ram...nice vehicles hardworking but a bitch to maintain...
Have a 1998 with the 318 and it was doing the same thing with the same error so it was distributor cap I needed on it but to be honest getting over the dodge about to be trading it in for a 2003 chevy 1500
@dodgedrummer Ehh it's fine. It's been doing it for a month or two now, and only around 40-45. As long as it doesn't completely drop a gear or the torque converter, it should last until I get something else.
Hey man I have an 03 with same Ish issues but mine also won't go past 3000rpm while driving. Read an article about a guy who had the same issues and he had to replace the tank and it worked just fine. The guy before me removed the cat so that's not clogged causing the issue and like you I have done almost everythino minus the expensive shit. Let me know what you did and see if it fixed the issue, thanks, I will also do the same
You had to replace the tank? The gas tank? Why? I'm having the same issue with my 02 ram 5.9 magnum p0303 iv replaced fuel pump, injectors, coil, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, cam sensor that's under the cap, crank sensor. I did a compression test and cylinder 3 was 150 so I don't know if it's a burnt valve or what. I do know it won't go pass 3000rpm then it starts flashing the check engine light.
I'm having the same problem. It's been going on for a couple years now. It comes and it goes. Sometimes I'll go for days or weeks without the misfiring and the check engine light goes off. It only misses at low rpms. Have you found a resolution?
hey man i'm noth really mechanic bad chec the pushrod inside the valve cover! probable you have bend valve! i hope that you will help and the oter to! good luck
Distributor might be going out
Running rough? MY ASS. That truck is running perfectly
Good luck bro. ✌️💙🏇🏇🏇
I am surprised no one mentioned a broken valve spring. Evidently a very common problem on this engine.
Common? Weve literally never seen one under nornal conditions in nearly 30 years...
If your truck is not stalling its not the fuel pump I changed the fuel pump and it's still doing it its got to be something simple
Probably its a low compression probably caused by a blown headgasket. Check your EGR valves, your catalyst converters. Maybe its your coil, or maybe its a clogged fuel filter by dirt.
Well ain't you just a world of ideas?
kjones0261 I tried to help him, if i was wrong correct me and don't act like a jackass.
p0201, p0203, p0205, p0123, p0305
ive changed the fuel pump, filter, spark plugs, wires, new gas, sea foam in gas and through the main vac line so it cleans out the egr valve, new pcv valve and air filter.
ugh now what any ideas?????
Just bought my truck cylinders six four and eight are miss firing i’m going to replace the O2 sensors and spark plugs trucks is letting off white smoke does anybody know if I have to get the heads replaced or have my head rebuilt
Replace O2 sensors
bad injector, swap them and you will find out if that injector is bad
It's called volumemetric deficiency, check it out,ppl slesys mis diagnos this, cams and lifters need replaced,I'll bet u anything,I've fixed about 7 of these on the hemi( which I love, great motor)
No kidding..

It runs like shit and just poured some gum out on it as well.
just pointing out that the fuel pump placement is generally the same on most trucks and cars not just dodge
Exact same thing on my 2003 5.9 on cylinder #5
It had good spark ,good injector but misfire
I checked compression it was 65ps way too low. Low compression = no combustion on cylinder
Turned out to be cracked heads
Total Paid $800 dollars to my mobile mechanic to rebuild the
heads at home
Now she's back at work
Always troubleshoot don't assume and randomly change parts
elecron200
Did u get it Fixed....and if u did what was the problem?
I have a very bad misfire and the scanner doesn't pick it up it's driving me knots changed o2 tps idle air control valve distributor timing chain spark plugs check for fuel pressure dead injector test can't figure it out I'm thinking of looking into hotter or colder spark plugs if this doesn't fix it it's getting a for sale sign also I was not normal my timing is jumping up and down from 8 degrees to 22 or 25 degrees at idle I was also thinking of replacing the computer. Karl Azevedo did the crankshaft position sensor fix your problem

sounds like the Engine crank sensor to me. that will give false readings
Man that sucks. I hope you can get her fixed. Lol takes 24 minutes to drop gas tank out
Coil pack
Eh, my 98 f150 had a cylinder that didn't fire ended up being a lash adjuster. It kept throwing out gas the whole time till we checked that and changed it. Not sure what's going on with yours though.
Having same issue someone told me to replace the Pick Up Coil , i'm going to try it this weekend , Thanks
Check your compression #6
I have the same problem on my 2001 ram 1500.
Cylinder 8 misfire and I’ve tried everything plus tax to fix it but it’s o no avail.
Did you ever solve the problem?!?
Yeah. And so
my 20p1 dodge ram 2500 5.9l does the same thing and i have the same code if you figure it out let me know plz

I'm having a misfire on 1 and 5 and idk what to do. I know I need to replace one of my lifters. Don't that be the reason behind me having a misfire in both cylinders?
Was it the flexplate?
It was the drive shaft.
my 2002 did the same thing I did a tune up with the same plugs, wires.rotor button and disturber cap been running alright
Mine has a misfire on cylinder 1,2,3,5,6 and transmission shudders. My mechanic buddy said it it timing

Soooooooo......how did you fix it? We all want to know.
my friend/ co worker has the same problem with #5... check the valve seals... his was a seal on exhaust valve seal!
the problem was a crack in the head!
+Donald Eastman how did he know it was a cracked head
He did a wet and a dry compression test = Failed
I have the same truck and have been throwing a multiple cylinder misfire code forever I think it’s either a cracked head or I need all new fuel injectors
Check your injector again they can be cleaned with wood tooth pick and carb cleaner
Im not sayin a replaced plenum plate wouldnt be the problem. If the stock steel plate has been replaced with an aftermarket aluminum plate, try a magnet down the TB.
Whether the plenum plate is steel or aluminum does not matter, the gasket sealing the plate can be leaking in either case
i have the same also, seems to be commonn for dodge, it has a rough idle and also shuts of while in gear on the brakes, ok i change with all new parts, spark plugs, dis cap, wires, idle con sensor, rotor, coil, spark plugs, choke sensor, sensor under the cap n rotor, took throttle body off and cleaned it, used sea foam also, still misfires on all cylenders codes come up are po201 threw208, p1391 cmp,po132 bank 1 sensor1, spent alot of money very disapointed wit this truck
Did u ever fix it,?
Must have been champion plugs.
This id great for the simple fact iv been having issues with my 99 durango champion plugs were in it lmfao
i have a 97 Ram with the 318 with the same problem. it has a new cat, new o2 sensors, new plugs, dis. cap, rotor plug wires it has 148500 miles on it.
It says ***fixed*** but does not say how???
OK so are u really ignoring the gauges blinking? alternator is a possibility they sell a check 5est for that its really cheap

Do a compression test could be a valve burned or bent. Or head gasket issue.

Mine is Making that noise you are talking about every time I accelerate. So I'm going to check on those orings and seals. I check the spark plugs and wires and they seemed fine. So that my next thing to check. Thank you
I had the same problem no 02, 04,06 misfire code and a air leak, I did a complete tune up, wires , plugs, cap and rotor, the auto part man told me to go with the cheap champion spark plugs because nothing else will work good in it because he had a 01 and I have the 02 , got everything done and it runs great, I had the truck for a year but the person who had it , they had put some $12 a piece plugs in the truck , go with the regular champion plug and it want foul out
how do I do a compression test on 2007 dodge ram 1500 hemi
If you fixed it, why wouldn't you write a post telling what you did??? Come on, man. Good grief
Mine was doing the same exact thing. Ended up being a burnt valve
my 98 is doing the same thing already changed plugs.wires.cap.butten.coil cam sencerand crank sencer still misses after 20 min runnig clears up gonna drop the tank in the morning to see if water in gas
Did you ever get it fixed? If so, what fixed it - we are having the exact same problem on #6
hmm... my 98 with the 360 runs the same way but it has no misfire.. we hooked a mac tools code checker up to it and every cyclinder runs perfect.. it only rough idles for a few minutes and it go's away.. any ideas anybody?
my dodge has over 275k miles on it and i just got a miss fire on two cyclinders!!! working on it this weekend.
I have the same truck. Mine was the cylinder 8 misfire and it was a small head gasket leak. Try use a bottle of bars leak or radiator stop leak it fixed mine.. You might also have to change that one plug again
Its the crank shaft position sensor
how do you know it only a #6 misfire
Nope. Didn't help a bit.
+misael pacheco because it days p0306..the 06 means cyinder 6
Thank you! Thank you!
Bro it lasted 17 years
i would try a can of Sea foam in there since its close to the big 100K mark i did it on my dodge and it ran better and still runs great and my Ram has 184K now good luck and carbon build up could be causing that misfire on my ram it was my #6 so i bought 8 new wires and fixed that spark plug wire that made my code go
this smae thing happened with my stepbrothers 5.2 after we did the cap and rotor and it just went away after a month for some reason
My buddy had the same thing with injector number 8
yea dodge does have some pisspoor ideas when it comes to there vehicles...i would know i have three including a qc sport 4.7 ram...nice vehicles hardworking but a bitch to maintain...
check for power in the injector i have the same problem if u have the same problem the computer my bee going bad... welcome to dodge world
Heads are cracked!!! thank me later.....
O2 sensors...if u having individual coil packs...try replacing as needed??? Or if u have a gun...shoot it...lol!!
So you bought a new spark plug and it was faulty?
Have a 1998 with the 318 and it was doing the same thing with the same error so it was distributor cap I needed on it but to be honest getting over the dodge about to be trading it in for a 2003 chevy 1500
Check ur distributor cap and distributor cables,in the worst casanario,u crackd a piston
@dodgedrummer Ehh it's fine. It's been doing it for a month or two now, and only around 40-45. As long as it doesn't completely drop a gear or the torque converter, it should last until I get something else.
I had the Same problem on my truck, I found out it was both O2 sensors
PICK UP COIL!!!!! Like points under distributor cap.
pretty sure its your distributer cap
i have the same truck, if u get all the cylinders to be misfired it happen to be the o2 censors not your heads
So, how did you fix it?
hey! how many miles to the gallon are you getting on yours?
I get 11 mpg
I had the same thing I took it to dodge and had a decarp done 150 buck and that's all it was the valves was stickin
so did you figure it out or what?
Hey man I have an 03 with same Ish issues but mine also won't go past 3000rpm while driving. Read an article about a guy who had the same issues and he had to replace the tank and it worked just fine. The guy before me removed the cat so that's not clogged causing the issue and like you I have done almost everythino minus the expensive shit. Let me know what you did and see if it fixed the issue, thanks, I will also do the same
TattooedFourLife had same issue with my 03 ram it was the cam shaft relay sencor
TattooedFourLife misfire 1 3 5 and 7 all the time
You had to replace the tank?
Im having the same problem cylinder 5 misfire i have over 2k in the son of a bitch have you figured yours out?
Roder? really!
I got a dodge ram 1500 hemi 5.7 and its doing the same thing
Very purty truck...how's she treatin' u these days?
hey man i'm noth really mechanic bad chec the pushrod inside the valve cover! probable you have bend valve! i hope that you will help and the oter to! good luck
Cam pickup
Lol aint it a bastard when that happens?
