This is actual horror. The distortions of reality through the kids eyes make my mind wander into dark places that come up with ideas of what's actually happening. But any sense of understanding is just so screwed up and blurry. The film moves fast enough that you aren't able to fully consider what it means. It saddens me that the little green kid was transformed by his environment and turned to violence just like everyone else. Incredible film
The way violence is so casually interwoven with the silly, light-hearted, nonsense is disturbing. Even after the pig showed him love could be used to combat the bad guys, the kid came to the conclusion that love is just not enough to get rid of them. That the only thing that can really be done is to kill them. And it seems like that's not the conclusion him nor any of those kids at the end are really happy with...
I'm not entirely sure what I just watched but it was entertaining. I would love to know more about the story behind this animation....or any kind of explanation at all.
like the symbolism of the pointy hat guys sort of representing a childish idea of a "bad guy" i too represented vague concepts like god, the devil, criminals, and abusive families with childish simple drawings in my head.
i like that we see them at the beginning being perused by what seems to be a military or police force and then santa claus, I think all of those things exist in some abstract place together for a lot of children
