    ahhhh the Dragon tree!! loved that you put that in there, how memorable.....really appreciate the tombstone someone made. Nature is always reminding us that change is the only constant and to savor things in the very moment we have them because we never know what the currents of life will bring next. So sacred for all of us who got to experience this place in it's prime. Thank you for making this.

    Everytime I think about this, it makes me feel extreme grief. I didn’t know about this until a year after it happened watching your video and I was floored. Interestingly enough, I had went down to the Davidson river that same weekend this happened and knew about the flood, but didn’t know that the rain also effected Skinny Dip. It was my absolute happy oasis place in WNC. Not sure if there’s anywhere else nearby quite like it was. It brought me peace. But it’s still a great spot to check out. RIP!

    WOW! Unbelievable. I was at the falls this summer with a group of teachers and as I sat pondering the power and majesty of it all, surrounded by the blanket of lush foliage I remember thinking... These falls, the rocks and plunging pounding water have been here since before man stepped onto this continent. The plants and animals adapting, and the water providing what was needed to support each fragile organism's robust persistent effort to survive. I was overcome with awe at the ongoing brilliance of creation. And now I think, "What now? What of all the plants and animals" and I am once again reminded of the ongoing brilliance and persistence of creation. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    I went for the first time after seeing a video showing the beautiful falls and swimming hole. At the time I didn't realize what had happened in the week prior. I got there and saw the mess. I used the scramble trails to get down--there are a few, and they are steep but much safer than trying to scale the area where the stairs used to be and where that pink tape now is (people were doing that, and I don't advise it). I had a nice day there, but had I known about the damage I likely would have gone somewhere else instead. I'm sad that I never got to see it in its glory.

    • @Blueridgemountainlife
      @Blueridgemountainlife  3 года назад

      Many people were there the day we were recording the video, and did the same thing. Some had never been before it was destroyed, and others had been there many times, and we're grieving over it, like we were. We agree on not taking the cliff down where the bridge was, very dangerous, and we were surprised at how many were doing it! The scramble trail is still a little dangerous, but far less so. The new waterfall created where the bridge used to be is still just beautiful, but the whole area just isn't as beautiful as it was. Hopefully in time it will heal. Thanks for watching, and for your great comment. We appreciate it!

    Wow, that is amazing. We frequent Western NC a good bit. I unfortunately never got to visit Skinny Dip Falls. I hate I didn't. It is amazing to think that pool was deep enough to jump in like that. We were just up in Maggie Vally about three weekends ago. We rode over to Canton to check out some of the areas that was flooded. It is crazy how powerful that water is. Especially after seeing all this rock that it pushed downstream. Thanks for sharing. Great video with the before and after! When I came in the other day from the Parkway and stood where the stairs used to be, I thought part of the MST above the falls was gone also. I followed a decent trail up creek towards Yellowstone Falls a few years ago and thought it was part of the MST. But - a few days ago, my wife and I followed the MST from Graveyard Fields to the opposite side of Skinny Dip and the trail doesn't come close to the creek until you get to the waterfall. Maybe there was a reroute of the trail at some point?

    • @Blueridgemountainlife
      @Blueridgemountainlife  3 года назад +1

      Hey, thank you and thanks for watching. Were were told by a few hikers we met while there that it was part of the MST, so I was going by that - That might not be accurate OR, maybe it's a spur trail or alternate loop. So I might have had bad information. Thanks for sharing that.

    Larry, it appears it is a combination of trees washed down the sides of the mountain and the massive water flow washed out the soil along each of the banks, dislodging the rocks and they just fell into the creek. Then trees and soil flowing downstream just destroyed everything in the path. I never got to go to Skinny Dip Falls before and now, it has suffered catastrophic damage. So sad. It is nature though.
