In Philadelphia a young addict sold another addict $20 worth of H. He was living in his Mom's house. Theu tried to take her house until it became public.
@@ronlee2776 I'm not sure how this is a right vs left issue, I have not heard one elected democrat arguing to end Civil Asset Forfeiture anywhere in the country
No mention of the Institute for Justice. They've been fighting this for years. Now they are hitting rich people its become a problem. Which is good, whatever brings change. The Institute for Justice represented the black guy at the airport years ago.
Asset Forfeiture= Government piggybank. The Government gets Billions of dollars with the Asset Forfeiture laws. With a potential of 6-7 billion dollars each year just on the feds side, the windfall is very rewarding.
He definitely said it. Reclaim their innocence. It’s not like this is America or anything. You know, that place where everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt?
No, this began centuries ago. It has been a part of the legal system of the United States since the very beginning. It began to enable the government to take goods that were being smuggled into the nation when the smugglers ran away and couldn't be found/identified. They needed a defendant, so the smuggled goods became the defendant. Now, it has evolved into a method of stealing from citizens who lack the means to fight back.
Now imagine if they didn't have that $3M for legal fees to prove their innocence. They should be paid back ten fold! All who win cases like this need their legal fees recouped!
I genuinely believe there are officers that see these reports and think oh i can definitely use that against people i dont like since you dont need any evidence. If your an officer you can just make whatever wild claims you want and then force the public to prove their innocence.
If you watch longer interviews, the wife goes into detail how former Justice Department employees were working at Amazon and had meetings. In the emails, the Justice Department employees didn't fact check, and just took direction from Amazon.
This money is needed for other programs. If you’re running around with that much cash at the airport while we have millions of migrants coming in with no cell phones or down payments for homes, you don’t deserve to keep this amount of money. Keep your money in the bank where the govt can see it or risk being treated like the criminal that you are. Vote blue 💙 remember we are here for you. 🇱🇷
This is what our government has come to. When they don't have an actual crime against you, but somebody doesn't like you..... They just take your money. American law has turned into something out of these horrible science fiction future TV shows. You can't imagine what I would give to have been born in the late 1920s like my grandparents so I wouldn't have to deal with this.
Been saying this for years! Just because it happens on highways and at the airport for cash, nothing stops them seizing literally anything! Now it was Amazon that made the call, but that doesn’t have to happen either.
The logical fallacies used to justify civil asset forfeiture are beyond belief. For example, drug dealers carry large amounts of cash. You are carrying a large amount of cash. Therefore, you are a drug dealer. Edit: For those not well acquainted with logical fallacies, this is one known as: "Ergo hoc, propter hoc". And in English, "After this, therefore because of this". That is one event caused the other event even though there is no connection between the two events. hth
Our Congress will not let a bill to reform this procedure to make it fairer because DOJ, FBI and Sheriffs association is strongly lobbying against it. Approx 6 billion a year is being taken. These departments do not have any accountability with this money. It's has paid for training trips to Hawaii, parties with prostitution and pot and alcohol, buying commercial margaritas machines. ( documented ) These departments claim it for the fight against cartels but the average amount of money taken is around 2000. The process is so expensive to fight it costs you more than the money they take. Most of it is because the drug dogs reaction to money "smelling drugs". Approximately 85 percent of money has drug smell on it. It's both parties that is preventing reform.
Media crap as usual. The Complaint shown in the video is a civil complaint filed by Amazon against Nelson on the theory that he committed various torts in the context of three real estate deals he was involved in. The District Court dismissed most of the theories on motions by the defendants. The Government was not involved. The Video does not inform us what, in fact, the Government did, how it did it, what court was involved etc.
You don't know what you're talking about. There were papers filed by government agencies. They didn't find out Amazon was behind it until after they had DOJ do civil asset forfeiture and Amazon sued immediately afterwards. Only in discovery was it found that the connection was between Amazon and DOJ. All because they said he violated his employment contract. But more importantly Amazon was the n the hook for something like 120 million unless they could pin it on him.
I'm laughing at how ignorant your statement is. The police can have your wallet frozen, furthermore the moment you move your money into a scam it becomes much easier to steal. Billions in BTC alone have been stolen from offline wallets and from major "secure" online wallets. Name one company that's been around a decade who has had more then fifteen million dollars in assets who hasn't been breached. At least keeping the money as physical money lets you keep an eye on it, and keeping it in the bank gets FDIC coverage for the first $100k-250k (I don't remember I don't have enough cash for it to matter). I have to assume your a cryptoscammer to have uttered something as ignorant as you have.

Also amusing is that the civil asset forfeiture that happened to the first couple happened in Washington. Washington is a blue state. According to the latest grades from the Institute for Justice from their "Policing for Profit" report, Ohio and Washington received the same overall grade, D-. Only one state received an F and that was Massachusetts. The only states to earn an A were New Mexico and Wisconsin (A-).

Congress needs to get off their butt and make it illegal, failing that, the Ohio legislature should do it NOW
The supreme court allowed this highway robbery scheme. 🤬

No police are sovereign citizens. They aren't accountable to the same rules
Sue ford for contracting car to dangerous vendor
Steve Lehto of Lehto's law on RUclips does excellent videos on civil asset forfeiture.

They don't suspect a crime. They just want the money.
They are not acting in good faith or for any legitimate law enforcement activity.

The bigger problem is that it costs MILLIONS of dollars to fight a wrongful seizure.
This doesn't make sense. They took 900k and spent 3m trying to get 900k back 😂
May God bless the Nelsons, Mr. Warren, and all victims of civil asset forfeiture. This needs to stop.

Seriously! The system is dysfunctional, it's not able to catch the big fish, but also easy to weaponized against innocent people.
Think about that. Amazon accuses someone of taking millions in kickbacks . 😂😂 You have to be totally unaware .

True . I thought there was a hole in the narration. Still, CAF is a fact, and the description of how they go about doing it is accurate.
Amazon did not freeze their credit cards and seize $900,000, the government did.
This is an awesome commercial for crypto currency
This is why you have to put your money into crypto or offshore. If done right, it cannot be seized so easily.
