      No, this began centuries ago. It has been a part of the legal system of the United States since the very beginning. It began to enable the government to take goods that were being smuggled into the nation when the smugglers ran away and couldn't be found/identified. They needed a defendant, so the smuggled goods became the defendant.
      Now, it has evolved into a method of stealing from citizens who lack the means to fight back.

  • @horizonhopeharlow

    The logical fallacies used to justify civil asset forfeiture are beyond belief. For example, drug dealers carry large amounts of cash. You are carrying a large amount of cash. Therefore, you are a drug dealer.
    Edit: For those not well acquainted with logical fallacies, this is one known as: "Ergo hoc, propter hoc". And in English, "After this, therefore because of this". That is one event caused the other event even though there is no connection between the two events. hth

    Our Congress will not let a bill to reform this procedure to make it fairer because DOJ, FBI and Sheriffs association is strongly lobbying against it. Approx 6 billion a year is being taken. These departments do not have any accountability with this money. It's has paid for training trips to Hawaii, parties with prostitution and pot and alcohol, buying commercial margaritas machines. ( documented ) These departments claim it for the fight against cartels but the average amount of money taken is around 2000. The process is so expensive to fight it costs you more than the money they take. Most of it is because the drug dogs reaction to money "smelling drugs". Approximately 85 percent of money has drug smell on it. It's both parties that is preventing reform.

    Media crap as usual. The Complaint shown in the video is a civil complaint filed by Amazon against Nelson on the theory that he committed various torts in the context of three real estate deals he was involved in. The District Court dismissed most of the theories on motions by the defendants. The Government was not involved. The Video does not inform us what, in fact, the Government did, how it did it, what court was involved etc.

    • @tomeauburn
      @tomeauburn Месяц назад

      You don't know what you're talking about. There were papers filed by government agencies. They didn't find out Amazon was behind it until after they had DOJ do civil asset forfeiture and Amazon sued immediately afterwards. Only in discovery was it found that the connection was between Amazon and DOJ. All because they said he violated his employment contract. But more importantly Amazon was the n the hook for something like 120 million unless they could pin it on him.

      I'm laughing at how ignorant your statement is. The police can have your wallet frozen, furthermore the moment you move your money into a scam it becomes much easier to steal. Billions in BTC alone have been stolen from offline wallets and from major "secure" online wallets. Name one company that's been around a decade who has had more then fifteen million dollars in assets who hasn't been breached. At least keeping the money as physical money lets you keep an eye on it, and keeping it in the bank gets FDIC coverage for the first $100k-250k (I don't remember I don't have enough cash for it to matter).
      I have to assume your a cryptoscammer to have uttered something as ignorant as you have.
