Alex Lifeson is one of my musical heroes. Rush was a band formed by three great musicians, but also was a band formed by three all time friends, normal and close people, so funny and goofing even in the bad days. How are the people who they trusted and worked with? Just the same good spirited, nice people. Thanks for making this, Kris. And thanks to all people involved in this excellent series or videos!
Scott was very nice to me when I was at a rush concert, he even let me touch THEE white ES guitar. I got a picture with him haha. And if Big Al is reading, I literally just used my index finger to touch the back of the neck. Scott’s the man and no harm was done with that treat.
6:14 Ball ends through the tuning pegs: thanks for mentioning this. I suspected the stiffer string splice would damage the tuning pegs, so I opted out.
@@pauldncn1 I’d like to own a few of those machines, yea the facility start up cost is expensive but for what they charge per image I figure it would pay for itself in about 8 months if you kept it booked. I can’t get an MRI, too much MetaaaaaaaaaL in my soul 🤘🏽, but PET scans are just as annoying. I’m sending good vibes your way Sir, if’n I get the clinic started, I’ll let you know and your first scan is free👍🏽
Boomer, you da man!!! Thanks so much. I have something really cool coming up in a few weeks. It was a dream of mine, that's all I can say at this point. haha //Kris
Just catching up on some of these, very cool. Can you get Brad Gillis' tech on with you? Curious how he takes care of the Floyd without fine tuners. Thanks, Kris.
Super helpful! My 1st guitar is on the way in the mail and I need to learn everything, so much fun & excitement!!! Got a Jackson JS32 Rhoads lefty, can't wait to break things LOL.
I pull the string through the eye, leaving the ball on for wind up tension. I use a drill & attachment for wire stringing. This way I can peel off a little string when I break them
Not covered in this video (and I really wish it was)... Alex's LPs are rewired so that the piezo and humbucker outputs are fully separated... and the production ones are not (I know, I got one).
Interesting. I bet you didn’t know that Alex had a Kahler fitted to his white 355!at one time but hated it. I got that from the shop that fitted it (!pre-Scott Appleton days)
I have moved from Gibson standard LP to Epiphone Axcess recently. My first impression and questions I have of the Axcess are: 1. With the trem bar screwed in all the way the bar has a tiny bit of free play in the hole before it physically moves the bridge. Is there a way of tightening it up snug or is this a common thing you live with? 2. The action is higher than any guitars I have used in the past. How the guitar comes from the Chinese factory, is this string height standard for Alex or does it need adjusting? I'd like the guitar setup like Alex. 3. Are there some exact specs for the epiphone Axcess I can give to a guitar tech so he can duplicate Alex setup? Obviously there is going to be some tolerance, but to get the guitar into the ball park. It's obviously not a Gibson but I would like to get the guitar setup as good as possible. Thanks, Tim
One thing that sounds off at this higher string height is if you bend the 3rd string up a tone with your 3rd finger and B string one fret up from 3rd position, the B string is flat so to compensate I would have to pull the B string up towards the 6th string to make it in tune when doing that classic blues lick, if you know what I mean. Hard to explain. I don't have this issue with my Gibson LP because the action is much lower. The current epiphone string height could be an issue as is? Does anyone follow.
I have a ibanez guitar rg370dx and I am not sure what is causing it go out of tune when using the tremolo. the neck is straight. And the bridge doesn't lean. Without using the trem it stays on tune beatifully. And i've been also thinking about upgrading the tremolo to a schaller lockmeister 6 but I am not sure if it will fit.
Hi, the RG370 has a relatively basic tremolo system with softer metals than a pro level floating tremolo would have. That's mostly the reason for not being stable. The only issue is, that other brands will not fit easily on an Ibanez (Schaller, Floyd, etc). Not without modifying it. That's something a luthier should do because it's a very delicate mod and that will prob. cost quite some bucks... I think your best option is to check if the higher end Edge tremolos fit on your 370dx without modifications. Those are nice and stable trems. Cheers //Kris

If someone said Scott is Al's brother, I would have believed it. He and Alex at his current age share some facial similarities, as well as speech and mannerisms. Nice guy, great presentation.
his guitar is too much expensive for what it sounds and about the settings 35mn ! Make a résumé in 2mn ! People have not always 35mn to listen to any other than résumé-music

Damn I’m off for an MRI scan now
desperate to watch this
I’ll see this later thanks Kris!!
Best of luck Paul, let us know later how you liked the video. 🙌
Hope your scans are free of anomalies, sending good vibes your way Paul.
@@PooNinja scars are fine but that damn tunnel
Is so noisey
If it were a band I’d buy the guitarist a tuner and sack the drummer
Thanks PN. 👍

I met Scotty when he was teching for Phil Collen at a ManRaze gig. Super nice guy
That Les Paul he was working on, WOW!, just stunning!
Great interview and advice!
Such a cool video to exist for us to experience. Thank you, both. :-)

How do you clean and condition the frets and neck by changing one string at a time?

Just what I needed, just bought my son Alex's Epiphone signature and I haven't met Floyd yet. I know his brother Pink, but that's another story.
I have an Epiphone pre-release of this guitar. are they gonna make any more?

Could be the posts or the knife. Bad springs or the nut beeing loose.

How about doing the same testd with dummy coils?

I thought the great Jimmy Johnson was Alex's guitar tech?
Sadly JJ passed away a couple years ago. Scotty has been Alex’s guy for years
I didn’t know Ricky from Trailer Park Boys is a guitar tech.
Float em, Stretch em , tune em…. Abuse em !!!

what does Alex pay him ?
Loonies

Not sure I want to take advice from a guitar tech who wears a foo Fighters shirt
