I know it's already too late, but if they ever run this event again, you can save 60 of your upgrade tokens for later. When you all start the Maze event, do NOT agree to spend the tokens during the tutorial. When you run through the beginning and you get to the step where it ask you to spend the tokens to upgrade a pony (7:44), STOP!!! Quit out of the game completely. When you log back in, you should bypass that step and then be able to keep the tokens for an upgrade that you WANT at a later time, not forced to spend it in the beginning.
