I usually don’t shed tears even in emotional movies. That moment, when Ayushman’s mother asks “Khana kha liya beta”, I didn’t realize I had drops of tears rolling down my eyes. I had lost my mother couple of years before this movie. And My mother was exactly like Neena ji’s character. So, I could relate so much. The way she dresses, the way she cares for her sons, the way she could sense how they felt. I guess everyone’s mom is like that. I loved that character so much.

Oh my god same, I bowled my eyes when I heard her say "khana kha liya beta", knowing how he treated her, he was away but she still asked this is just every mom ever. I could see my mom there, and I couldn't control my tears, it was not emotional but got me real bad. Good to know somebody else also feel the same

Hugs to y’all. 💜 I’m grateful to still have my parents, who are older and not in the best of health, so even though they’re Telugu speakers, “khaana kha liya, beta?” got me right in the feels. (Especially since-well, let’s just say I haven’t always been the easiest child to deal with, even as an adult.)

    Ok so some clarifications...
1.) Here, even our cousins are referred as brother and sister so when they said "Nakul's sister's wedding" they didn't mean his sister as in sibling, but his sister as in cousin.
2.) When Andrew asked is it a boy or a girl? Well we CAN'T know. Sex Determination is illegal in India. Doctors can't tell the sex of the fetus to the parents. It was a Law passed by Indian government to fight again Female Foetuside.
3.) And that was not their wedding at the end. It was their engagement ceremony.

This movie hits close to home because it is exactly what happened to me when i was in 10th standard and my brother was in 3rd year of college..and all my classmates used to tease me and make fun and due to which i felt so embarrased but my parents are scary and never told them off or shamed them or argued with them like the kids did in this movie...if i did i would hve been beaten by my dad LOL...so even though my parents had to face some taunts from other people, it was never to this degree in the movie...also my brother just never told his friends in college about this so he didnt had to face any ridicule like i did in school because well i lived in a small town and everyone knew each other...but in the end i just had to keep my head down and tolerate the taunts because when my baby sister came, none of that mattered and i was just happy that i had a baby sister

Indian grandmothers often have a tendency to be strict towards their daughters-in-law, yet their love for them is unparalleled. Sometimes, they even shower more affection upon their daughters-in-law than their own sons. After watching this movie, it reminded me of my own grandmother. She was just like that-honest and straightforward in her speech, yet incredibly loving. I truly miss her dearly.

If you guys enjoyed Badhaai Ho with Ayushmann Khurana, then you guys should also watch: Dream Girl, Bala, Bareilly ki Barfi, Meri Pyaari Bindu and Doctor G.
Also the actress who played the grandma, Surekha Sikri, she passed away 2 years ago. 😔
Also another interesting fact: Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta’s chemistry is too good, that they were cast to play the same mom-dad/husband - wife role with Ayushmann Khurana in Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan, but as Jitender Kumar aka Jeetu Bhaiya’s parents in the movie 😅
And also the movie is loosely based on the director’s life, since his parents (in their 50’s/60’s) gave birth to a younger sibling, so he became a big brother too at a very later age.

Aww, the little toddler playing their baby sister at the end is just ridiculously adorable! 👶🏼 And as others have said, when Nakul’s mother asks him, “Khaana ka liya, beta?,” it’s an arrow straight to the feels. And unlike the stereotype of parents in Indian movies, who are opposed to their children’s romantic relationships, Nakul’s parents are immediately warm and welcoming toward Renee. They’re two of the sweetest on-screen parents I can remember seeing in a Hindi film.

4:49 tbh I feel like those were legit genuine concerns of a mom. If I was on renes place, I can imagine my mom giving me the same lecture. Idk why they showed the mom in a bad light. The mom wasn't wrong according to me.
