We call that a 'Flemish eye' but we use a 2 & 4 strand divide and fasten the ends with a bulldog grip. We use it in emergencies for a quick fix and normally use a Liverpool splice but there are many variations & mixed ways to splice. I was a trawler man but friend of mine was a rigger in the mines at Whitehaven England and it was magic how he managed those huge cables. There were no twisting machines then and when the came they made the job so much easier. It must be great to have brains!
Gerry Doyle not a flemish eye but a super loop ,you don't splice tails in a super loop, a flemish eye splice is totally diffrent and has a difrent use.a Liverpool splice is non load bearing as you wrap the tail strands around one strand as with a normal splice you tuck strands across and under strands which end up locking them in place so it can be load bearing......and swl is usually half the breaking strain of the rope
I make my Tails 1 Ft or so longer than the Eye ,Then do the Eye & wind the 2 tails into single line , Then Put the Eye in a Vice & take a tapered bar & Twist the Notch of the eye & Lay the Tail into the Standing Line & put on a a few Cosby Clamps - Quick & Easy
the smaller the eye and the thicker the wire, the sooner this type of splicing becomes a problem. the fact that the two ends had an overlap complicated things even more in this case.I always start intertwining the to pairs from the middle to the both ends. give the left a twist, then the right on etc...
I read all comments. Comment: cut the free hand of rope from the wooden reel. It was obvious from the first picture you started the video that will lead you wrong finish. When you separated strands 3-3 it was the second signal, first 3 strand was different lengths of position, .. etc .. etc,.. of course everyone knows what they are doing and of course you all know better than me !
Not a high enough helix in the strands. Make wire rope of a living and that looks like cheap imported rope. We check every rope every time we cut to make sure the helix is in spec for every rope we make. Told the cheap imported stuff don't go through the same quality checks.
Here's a tip for strand ends ...tape them up with electricians tape .wrap it to tighten strand anti clockwise...also good when cutting strands stops them opening
Use of tape like that would’ve been frowned upon in the old days but, in reality, it’s a very practical way of keeping strands from unraveling while working on a splice. Covers the sharp ends as well.
@@caroleast9636 how far back do you call the old days lol im 56 now and we used it 30 years ago .lol yr right actually my dad never used tape or gloves ..hard old men in them days
Hi Steven!!! This wire rope would be pre-formed, but due a manufactory problem, when this wire rope is opened, the strands don't stay the same way. Our furnisher replace this material. Thanks for watching my video.
First off the lay on this rope is just not that good, second if you take more than 6 lays you should take 2 and 4 strands, however with this rope i would take 2and 4 anyway. Usually Chinese or American galvanized ropes have the worst lay preforms.
First, I think this cable is probably junk. Second, if you wound the core side in rather than the strand side, this would not happen. One more thing, Why does it take two people to do this?? I have done this for 35 years now and I can do 2" regular eyes.
Why people who do something in an old fashioned way always criticize others for making the job easier? "Why do you need a crane? In my day, I could lift 250-kg bag of sand to the 100th floor on my back. I'm a disabled hunchback now but it's still the right way to do it". Go get a beer or something, ffs!
now when some one dies or something is damaged because of subpar material, you're to blame...not the manufacturers...should have went with German or Japanese...
Sorry maybe i have had to splice too much junk rope . There is definatly a rope issue but your splicing technique exasperated the problem . If you take the 3strand side and get it started on the core side of the crotch it will keep the core from slipping in as you wind the eye. As soon as you locked the core side you could see the slip and should have unlocked and switched sides. But seeing as you did notnhave a sleeve on the cable i am guessing this was just a test ;)

Leave a slightly longer tail end, makes life easier, also a bit of tape on the strands stops them fraying so much
So many experts in the comment section. Oh my!
Это опасная петля. И опасность в том, что она сразу не расплетается, она расплетётся позже и неожиданно, когда вы поверите, что она надёжная.

We ran into this problem before. Try forming the eye from the middle. It push up the core as much. Hopefully that works.
This product was with manufacturing problems. Our supplier changed for us. Thanks for your comments!!!

It did it cause the 3 strands had to much gap between the wires. Set wire where it bends up n pick at 3 oclock open six times with core on right
you can twist the strands back to its natural lay, after the lay is broken.
I really am not sure what the problem is here or even if there is a problem. Please explain someone what is going on.
